  1. >Rain pattered against the glass of the apartment complex. If it didn’t let up, the residents inside were sure to have a hard time going to work the next day when they awoke, with all the rainwater piling up in everyone's lawns and pooling into the streets, driving would be a challenge, even for buses.
  2.
  3. >That’s if they would even get any sleep at all. Cracks of thunder sweeping across the sky sent many people tossing and turning into the folds of their blankets on their beds. A handful even retreated to the comfort of their couches in hopes that they would find better success sleeping there then they did in their quaint sized beds.
  4.
  5. >But despite it all, one lone light shined brightly on the building. And from it a small figure looked outside the window, looking at the rain pattering on the glass, and everything else subject to its assault outside. The small figure pressed it’s two little hands on the glass and glanced left and right.
  6.
  7. >No cars. Still. “It’s getting late” she thought. And with that thought came another. Planning it all out in her head she smiled, and reached for the shades to shut them. Dimming the light from her room to the outside world.
  8.
  9. >This was Lulu.
  10.
  11. >Lulu scuttled herself to her bed, and picked up two stuffed animals, tucking one of them into her pocket to free up arm space.
  12.
  13. >One of them being a little rabbit, and the other that stayed in her hand, a small dolphin named “Popo”. “Never Mr. Popo.” she thought to herself as the rabbit went into her purple sweater pocket. With two items down, she rushed over to her closet and pulled some toys that resembled food. All of it was wooden, but what she was after was the wooden toaster toy and two tea cups. The wood was slightly chipped on all the toys, and the paint itself was somewhat worn
  14.
  15. >But all of that just strengthened Lulu’s connection to the toys. A small kinship with wood and metal.
  16.
  17. >Being a bit small, she reached for the doorknob, and exited her room into the short hallway, going into the living room. It was quaint. A nice little TV with a big couch, and a lamp on a night stand. Nothing too remarkable. She placed all of her toys around in a circle, and right next to the TV she put Mr Popo down right near her favorite spot to watch it. There were still a few guests missing from Lulu’s party that she had to retrieve.
  18.
  19.
  20. The living room connected right into the Kitchen, so she didn’t have to walk very far.
  21.
  22. CRACK
  23.
  24.
  25. The sound of lightning made Lulu jump back a bit, twitching, as she fell flat on her button, curling herself up into a ball. Dipping her head in between her knees to protect herself. She didn’t like being alone at nights like this. Who knows when her Dad would come home?
  26.
  27. Lulu had a hard time being a “Big Girl” Bugs, lightning, loud noises of any kind, still startled her and made her retreat into “flight” mode. She even did this on the day she was brought home, in fact she stayed rolled up in her safety ball so hard that her Dad had to pick her up, buckle her in, and take her inside all while she stayed in that pose. Her Dad thought it was cute. Lulu didn’t share his idea of “Cute” she thought it was humiliating and wishes she could forget that day.
  28.
  29. But the past is the past
  30.
  31. Picking her head up, she remembered why she was doing this in the first place, and, albeit a bit slower than before, entered the kitchen and opened the fridge.
  32. The Fridge looked a bit sad, not alot was in there. Some milk from the milkman, some leftovers that Lulu was going to eat later, and some various items that clearly rarely, if ever get touched. Out of it all, found what she was looking for. One final stuffed animal plushie sitting right next to a bright shining apple.
  33.
  34. The plushie was in the shape of a giant Moth with two marble eyes that stared into your soul. One of Lulu’s best friends. His….her? She didn’t remember what she called him, she always flopped back and forth between Mr and Mrs. Moth.
  35.
  36. “Come here Mr. Moth” she said really hushed to herself. Mr Moth today it is. She placed him there earlier so he could eat up that pesky red fruit and grow up to be even fluffier. She KNEW that he ate though so it was weird he left the apple untouched.
  37.
  38. “You’re not hungry today?”
  39.
  40. The Moth conversed with her in a very gentlemanly way. Very professional.
  41.
  42. “Okay.” she replied. Tucking him under her sleeve. She grabbed the plate of Dinner her Dad had made earlier before he set out.
  43.
  44. He specifically told her to eat the plate before 8, that it was very important for her “health” that she eat the whole plate clean at 8. But she hadn’t touched the thing at all. She wanted to eat it together with him when he would come home. However the clock read 9, and he didn’t seem to be coming home any time soon.
  45.
  46. It somewhat upset Lulu, but her plan was in motion, so it shouldn’t, or, well wouldn’t be all that bad
  47.
  48. Taking the plate and Mr Moth back, she finished the circle of friends and turned on the TV. Some Blonde haired man was talking about “stalks” or something. How things were in the red for some plant called “Sterling” this month, but how things should be going good for them soon. Lulu silently hoped that this weird Sterling plant or whatever it was called grew big and strong with all the other stalks of corn it must be planted next to.
  49.
  50. Underneath the TV was a VCR, and underneath it, a plethora of movies and TV shows Lulu had come to enjoy. Tonight was movie night. And the Feature event,
  51.
  52. “Beauty and the Beast.” Lulu said to herself. She popped in the Tape and set up the proper input and tuned into the movie. As the opening played, the young women enjoyed the early morning sunrise and sayed “Bonjour” to all the people around as they called her “strange” she longed to be more like Belle. The blue and white clothed women was a great symbol of hope to her, but far from her favorite character in the movie. But he wasn’t set to appear for awhile.
  53.
  54. Tearing up the tinfoil that covered up her dinner, she found a porkchop, mash potatoes and a couple of peas spilt to the side, and nudging themselves into the potatoes. A few of the peas we even arranged into a smile on the potatoes from the man who prepared the dish.
  55.
  56. A smile popped on her face. A sight that was somewhat rare to anyone but her caretaker.
  57.
  58. She scooped up the food with a fork. And tuned into the movie with all of her friends.
  59. No longer worrying when her Caretaker would come home. But more relaxed. And enjoying the movie she must’ve seen time and time again, she lost count some few months back
  60.
  61. She couldn’t wait for “Be our Guest” to come on.
