  4. Ten Pointers on Seeking and Obtaining Press Attention. http://goatcloud.com/2015/02/26/tips-for-engaging-journalists-and-the-mainstream-media/
  5. Do be respectful of journalists’ time. If you reach out to a journalist, always ask if they have time to talk or if they are on a deadline.
  6. Do not exclusively sell your product or service. Sales pitches are not the same as content pitches.
  7. Do research media and journalists who report on what you work on. What do they like to write about? What have they missed?
  8. Do not bother journalists with information they’ve already covered.
  9. Do distribute press releases. Always make sure to have your contact information easily accessible.
  10. Do figure out what the “hook” is and explain that to the reporter.
  11. Do not populate your press releases with BS. They need to provide real content that is of value. That is, don’t send out press releases on information that’s not newsworthy.
  12. Do establish relationships with relevant reporters. Be up front with them about who you are and where you’re coming from. Be authentic. Don’t hide the ball about your intentions.
  13. Do not expect to see overnight success. Try and try again.
  14. Do explore the use of services like HARO (Help a Reporter Out) to be kept abreast of what some reporters are looking for.
