Thereupon Tristan set out, dressed in woman’s clothing, but wearing his sword under his cloak to be on the safe side. He
passed right in front of King Mark and the other knights without being intercepted by any of them. The King recognized Brangain well enough, but he did not know Tristan on account of his dress. Brangain continued on her way and Tristan followed her, and they kept going until they reached the tower. The porter who was guarding the door made no attempt to stop them, thinking they were young girls, and so they went straight to the room where Iseut was waiting for Tristan. When she saw Brangain entering and Tristan coming after her, she recognized him at once by his build, and she let them approach; and she had already asked all the ladies and maidens to leave the room some time before.
