  2. I believe modern people enjoy attending medieval fairs for several reasons. It can be a fun time at a very economical price tag. It allows people who are enthusiastic about the Middle Ages to volunteer their time to perform as actors and entertainers. They can be very entertaining to the average spectator, as the fairs are not aiming for historical accuracy, but for an experience that lives up to people’s expectations. These fairs allow people to embrace the Middle Ages without being strictly accurate, by focusing mainly on the entertainment value of the event and all the activities involved. It also allows medieval themed vendors to sell their wares easier than if they were a stall at a mall, as people will be more likely to buy a medieval souvenir at a fair, rather than in a mall.
  3. 2. Many people find an escape from their everyday lives in LARPing. What does LARPing offer that re-enactment doesn’t? Be as specific as possible about the difference between LARPing and re-enactment in your answer, and make sure you look at these two different activities from the view of a participant.
  4. There are several key differences between Live Action Role Playing and re-enactment.
  5. LARPing is focused mainly on the experience of the players, as opposed to re-enactment which is focussed on the historical accuracy of the setting, details, combat, weapons and armor.
  6. While LARPing can involve characters from fantasy and fiction, such as elves, dwarves and orcs, re-enactment focuses on historical accuracy and staying true to the setting where the re-enactment is taking place.
  7. LARPing offers more freedom in what participants may wear and portray themselves as, while re-enactment focuses on accuracy of costume pertaining to the region and era.
