  1. On the Sacred Annals
  2. By Captain Luis Mendez and Lieutenant Mike Ngata.
  3. Author's note: This text will periodically be updated, assuming the reader has a connection to our network. The source of this text derives from the damaged and unsecured information database of a captured Cretin scout vessel, hereby known as Verithai's Lightning. Among the vital intelligence recovered was a complete copy of The Sacred Annals of Dar, the holiest texts of the Cretin organized religion- and by extension, the Cretin government. The file, however, is corrupt, and only two of the purported 10 Annals have been successfully recovered and translated. Recorded here are their summaries.

  5. Much work needs to be done to connect the significance of these texts to Cretin social hierarchy, and the extent to which their deities affect their everyday function. We hope that this volume will continue to be updated in the coming years as a complete copy of the Sacred Annals is found, and will be of use to both academia, the United Earth military and the general public.

  9. What is Dar?
  10. Dar is a mysterious force that predates all life. Dar controls everything. According to the Sacred Annals, Dar flows through everything, and constructed everything that is purportedly good about the universe. Therefore, it could be suggested that Dar IS everything.
  11. The Known Children of Dar.
  12. 1. Ashga (The Scout, lit. "He with the Torch")- He is seen as the patron of pioneers, explorers, and is prayed to in times of uncertainty. His torch, known as Kune, is a sacred constellation on the Cretin homeworld. In antiquity, the torch was essential for Cretin navigators sailing the ammonia seas.
  13. 2. Arnga (The Crier, lit. "He who shouts.")- Arnga is the patron of prayer itself. He is said to have a voice that can both rally the disheartened and soothe the inconsolable.
  14. 3. Rakga (The Swordsman, lit. "He-with-Sword")- Rakga is the patron of warfare: warriors pray to him before battle. Cretins appear to highly value single combat as a sacred means of conflict resolution.
  15. 4. Mayaghan (The Fair Lady, lit. "She-With-Scales")- Mayaghan is seen as the mother of all modern Cretin. The patron of childbirth, child raising, and rainfall.
  16. 5. Changa (The Scholar, lit. "He-with-Scroll")- Changa is the patron of scholars. Only his Disciples are blessed with the knowledge of the Divine Commands. These Disciples are also disproportionately involved in the leadership of the Cretin people.

  19. Summary of the Annal of Creation.
  20.
  21. In the beginning, there was nothing in the black void of space but dust and chaos. The stars sat vacant, duller than charcoals on a long-dead fire. And then there was Dar. Dar infused itself into everything in the universe. As a result, Dar created planets from the dust, and created all life. But life was primitive, uncouth in their savage ways as they clamored and fought for food, Liquid, and ether to breathe. So from Dar emerged mighty children, each fully grown to maturity from the very fabric of life that is Dar. These Children of Dar were tasked with upholding the order of the universe, and to bring serenity and truth to all living things.
  22.
  23. Ashga emerged from the Void carrying a torch, called Ash, constructed of the finest dardenium and gold. It was he who guided the other Children of Dar to their home in the Galaxy, and it is his light that ignited the stars. Behind Ashga emerged another, Arnga, with a voice that could shatter the void. Rakga emerged behind him, clad in solid gold and who wielded a mighty blade which would never stress or break. Fair Mayaghan followed, with scales of jade and eyes of scarlet. Changa, the scholar with a limitless mind, tailed the procession and recorded everything with his divine claw, dipped in the ink of the void.

  25. Summary of the Annal of Enlightenment
  26. For eons, the Children called out to the life which was blessed enough to understand his words. Eventually, they found a land where beings with two legs and two arms wandered aimlessly, struggling for scraps among a dead world. They were a barbaric race, and preyed on a creature that was winged, and clad in beautiful feathers. It was they who had responded to the Children's call. "Help us," they beseeched the Children. "Free us from those that would enslave our kind, and eat our children." The Children heard this and felt pity. With their mighty gifts, They destroyed the barbarians and drove them from the face of the universe to forever suffer in the Void. The Prey rejoiced, and swore loyalty to the Children until the end of time. They listened eagerly to Changa as he delivered the Divine Commands of Dar to all who would lend their ear. The Children built a mighty castle atop Mount Verithai.
  27.
  28. Soon, the Prey found beauty in the Children, and they in the Prey. Mayaghan soon fell in love with a male known as the Owl King, and produced many progeny. Eventually, the Progeny and the Prey became one, and our mighty race was born. Even more Divine Children came from Dar, until there were eighteen Children. But this did not please Rakga, who was jealous and proud. He murdered the Owl King, wiped the minds of all, and forbade the Progeny from learning the Divine Commands from Changa or his children. Rakga also tied a mighty knot in the fabric of Dar, so that no more could be born from it.
