—nabi was born in korea, but her family moved to los angeles because of her father’s job when she was three years old. despite this, nabi always felt more connected to her korean ancestry and knew that she would live in korea as an adult. what she didn’t expect was to find a love for music growing up, and she was tempted to stay in america to try and build a career as a musician there for many years. that was, until she saw wonder girls for the first time when she was about twelve years old, and decided she wanted to be an idol. from the age of fifteen, she began to audition for korean companies (namely the ones that came to la: sm and jyp) but was continually rejected. it wasn’t until she submitted an online audition to cube at the age of seventeen that she was accepted and moved to korea to begin training. she graduated high school early and left to become a trainee.
