  1. Episode Two:
  2.
  3. And with that, the selfish princess lept from the tower and fell to her death. The end.
  4.
  5. I liked reading sad stories. When I read sad stories, it’s like… My heart feels just a little bit lighter.
  6.
  7. The princess, her servants, the villagers. The honest and the liars… There are no exceptions. Everybody suffers. But no matter what terrible things happen, the story ends under one “The End.”
  8.
  9. It isn’t much, but something about that made me feel as if I would be saved.
  10.
  11. Kyuubey: To most people, getting to have any wish granted
  12.
  13. Kyuubey: Is something worth dedicating their life for.
  14.
  15. Nagisa: If it’s that great
  16.
  17. Nagisa: Then you should just grant your own wish and become a magical girl.
  18.
  19. Kyuubey: We aren’t endowed with unique emotions, so
  20.
  21. Kyuubey: That idea is a weakness of ours.
  22.
  23. Kyuubey: That’s why we have to work with you humans, and invite you to become magical girls.
  24.
  25. Nagisa: Emotions…
  26.
  27. Nagisa: So if you have emotions, then you should know what you’d wish for?
  28.
  29. She helped an animal in the forest, and then. He found a mysterious lamp, and then. Or… She met the devil. And then… One day, they were suddenly given the chance for their wish to come true.
  30.
  31. So, just what wish should they ask to have granted?
  32.
  33. A wish, a wish, a wonderful wish. If you’re going to become a magical girl, and if it’s only one, he’ll grant it. If you’ll kill witches, and if it’s only one, he’ll grant it. So what is your wish?
  34.
  35. Nagisa: What even is a wish in the first place?
  36.
  37. Nagisa: Can it be for anything that I want?
  38.
  39. Kyuubey: “What is a wish,” huh…?
  40.
  41. Kyuubey: I think the ones better at defining it
  42.
  43. Kyuubey: Would be you humans, rather than us.
  44.
  45. Kyuubey: But…
  46.
  47. Kyuubey: To explain it with your language, I would say that it’s a “desire.”
  48.
  49. Kyuubey: By having it granted, you can increase your charisma, your wisdom, your possessions, and your influence.
  50.
  51. Kyuubey: There have even been people who wanted to wipe away their debts.
  52.
  53. Up until now, I had only ever thought about sad stories. When asked so suddenly what my hopes and wishes were, I simply couldn’t understand that kind of convenience. After all, in my stories, the people who have their wishes granted always became unhappy. I don’t want to become unhappy.
  54.
  55. Wishing for it not to go one way. Wishing for it to go one way. If I wish for the opposite of a sad story, will this end as a happy story? I didn’t know.
  56.
  57. Nagisa: Even if you explain, I can’t wrap my head around it.
  58.
  59. Nagisa: And besides, if I make a wish…
  60.
  61. Nagisa: Isn’t that like saying that I’m unhappy with the way things are now?
  62.
  63. Kyuubey: As an example, you’re suffering from malnutrition.
  64.
  65. Kyuubey: The lights in your house have burnt out, and this room is covered in trash.
  66.
  67. Kyuubey: Comparatively, I certainly couldn’t say you’re well-off.
  68.
  69. Kyuubey: And then there’s the matter of your personal relationships.
  70.
  71. Kyuubey: So rather than saying you’re “unhappy”
  72.
  73. Kyuubey: With the fact that your situation is worse than others…
  74.
  75. Kyuubey: I think that it would be more accurate to say:
  76.
  77. Kyuubey: There isn’t a single part of you that could say “I have no complaints.”
  78.
  79. Nagisa: You have a lot to say.
  80.
  81. Nagisa: And it’s true that money is appealing to me.
  82.
  83. Nagisa: … But, in stories…
  84.
  85. Nagisa: Wanting gold and then getting gold…
  86.
  87. Nagisa: It never ends well. It always comes at a price.
  88.
  89. Nagisa: Gold is something you can receive by chance.
  90.
  91. Nagisa: And besides, using a mysterious power to get something that isn’t mysterious…
  92.
  93. Nagisa: Somehow it feels like you’re losing out.
  94.
  95. Kyuubey: That’s fair.
  96.
  97. Kyuubey: There are times when money is necessary. But if you don’t mind hurting your community…
  98.
  99. Kyuubey: You could obtain a decent amount of money just by using your strength as a magical girl.
  100.
  101. Nagisa: From your perspective
  102.
  103. Nagisa: What wish do I need the most?
  104.
  105. Kyuubey: That’s a difficult question…
  106.
  107. Kyuubey: After all, you humans and I have very different sets of values.
  108.
  109. Nagisa: It doesn’t have to be what you think is best.
  110.
  111. Nagisa: You’ve made contracts with a lot of people up until now.
  112.
  113. Nagisa: So I think you’ve met other humans who were like me.
  114.
  115. Kyuubey: ……….
  116.
  117. Nagisa: No good?
  118.
  119. Kyuubey: Naturally, by the time we first spoke, I had already completed profiling you.
  120.
  121. Kyuubey: Based on others with similar situations, personalities, locales, and backgrounds.
  122.
  123. Kyuubey: We have plenty of model cases to reference.
  124.
  125. Kyuubey: However, I don’t think you’ll go along with what I come up with.
  126.
  127. Nagisa: That’s okay, I just want to hear it.
  128.
  129. Kyuubey: “I want to be given concern and kindness from a certain person.”
  130.
  131. Kyuubey: Or, to say it the way you humans usually do:
  132.
  133. Kyuubey: “I want to be loved.” That’s usually the one.
  134.
  135. Nagisa: ……….
  136.
  137. Nagisa: I… Am already loved enough.
  138.
  139. Kyuubey: I thought so.
