  1. VANCOUVER ISLAND CAERNS
  2. Being an island, there are a limited number of full caerns on Vancouver Island. This doesn't mean that other places are not spiritual, however; sacred sites all along the coast could be waiting to be awakened by the Rite of Caern Building...
  3.
  4. Broken Dawn Caern
  5. ---Benson Island
  6. --Caern of Gnosis, Level 2. Totem: Salmon
  7. Held by the Wendigo and Uktena, this sept doesn't interact much with the others, instead focusing on matters of the spirit realm.
  8.
  9. Skybound Cedar Caern
  10. ---Cathedral Grove
  11. --Caern of Wisdom, Level 2. Totem: Thunderbird
  12. An unusual sept, Skybound Cedar is nominally a Children of Gaia sept, and is home to the majority of the fera that call the island home.
  13. It is led by an Ajaba named Rain-Bringer, who was raised by the Children of Gaia.
  14.
  15. Raised Lake Caern
  16. ---Maltby Lake
  17. --Caern of Leadership, Level 4. Totem: Grandfather Thunder
  18. Led by the Shadow Lords, this sept is home to most of the island's Shadow Lords, Silver Fangs, and Get of Fenris.
  19. The leader of the sept is a Shadow Lord Lupus Theurge named Gaia's Great Trick.
  20.
  21. Stormcrash Trail Caern
  22. ---Cape Scott Provincial Park
  23. --Caern of Stamina, Level 2. Totem: Moose
  24. An Uktena sept for the most part, this sept also welcomes the Get of Fenris under its leadership.
  25.
  26. Go-Around Caern
  27. ---Strange Island
  28. --Caern of Strength, Level 2. Totem: Old Man Sea
  29. A small sept largely populated by Wendigo, with a few more wilderness-inclined Bone Gnawers.
  30.
  31. Howling Woods Caern
  32. ---Cormorant Island
  33. --Caern of the Wyld, Level 3. Totem: The Muses
  34. Almost entirely Black Furies, this sept is also home to a number of the pure tribes, and is a popular stop for Silent Striders. Almost all the humans on the island are kinfolk.
  35. It is led by a Black Fury Galliard named Clouds-On-Nightfall.
  36.
  37. OTHER CAERNS
  38. The mainland hosts many other caerns and septs, which often come to mingle with Islanders at Moots. A few are detailed below:
  39.
  40. Boiling Barrier Caern
  41. --The Barrier, Garibaldi Lake, BC
  42. --Caern of Rage, Level 3. Totem: Rorg
  43. The Boiling Barrier Caern is remote and dangerous, straddling a massive lava wall that dams in a lake. Very few non-Red Talons visit it, and it is controlled entirely by the tribe, though they occasionally will allow Lupus to stay for a time. There are dark rumours about the sept flitting among the local Garou...
  44. -
  45. Island Serpent Caern
  46. --Rattlesnake Island (Lake Okanogan)
  47. --Caern of Wisdom, Level 4. Totem: Ogopogo
  48. Run by Uktena, this sept is one of the largest collectors and documenters of spirits, lore and fetishes in all of BC. Their knowledge is often consulted by surrounding septs, and they're proud enough of their work to share a little bit.
  49. -
  50. Rainbow Waters Caern
  51. --Kalamalka Lake
  52. --Caern of the Wyld, Level 2. Totem: Euryale
  53. This sept consists entirely of Black Furies and their kin, with the exception of a few visitors from time to time. It is known for being insular and quite traditional.
  54. It is lead by a Black Fury Philodox named Eyes-of-Emerald
  55. -
  56. Luna's Vale Caern
  57. -- Snoqualmie Falls, Washington State, USA
  58. -- Caern of Healing, level 3
  59. Located just outside of Seattle, Washington, this sept gradually changed hands from the Uktena to the Glass Walkers after the city was founded. It is sparsely populated, as many of the Garou who call it home prefer to live and work in the city instead. Many of the permanent residents also work as park rangers, keeping the sacred site protected.
  60. -
  61. Fangs of Ice Caern
  62. --Mount Logan, BC
  63. --Caern of Stamina, Level 3. Totem: Wendigo
  64. Situated partway up the highest mountain in Canada, this icy caern isn't inhabited constantly like many septs; instead the Wendigo that run it send a rotation group of warriors to stand guard over the mountain and the glaciers that spread from it.
  65. -
  66. Lost Gold Caern
  67. --McGillivray Falls, BC
  68. --Urban Caern, level 2
  69. This sept has a rocky history. It is a younger caern that was discovered and claimed by Bone Gnawers hoping to strike it rich during the Cayoosh Gold Rush. For a brief period in the 40s control of the caern was lost as the site was declared a Japanese internment camp, and it was instead tended to by other displaced shifters. It's again held by Bone Gnawers since the town of McGillivray Falls was abandoned after World War 2.
  70. -
  71. City of Glass Caern
  72. --Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC
  73. --Urban Caern, level 2. Totem: Vancouver City Father
  74. Opened rather brazenly by the local Glass Walkers, this caern is often visited by humans without their knowing, being situated in Stanley Park, 'the heart of it being Prospect Point. The locals tend to it by getting jobs as park workers, and some Bone Gnawers even living in the area as vagrants.
  75. -
  76. Mother's Vengeance Caern
  77. --Dala Peak, BC
  78. --Caern of Rage, Level 3. Totem: Griffon
  79. Somewhere in the mountains in the vicinity of Dala Peak, this Red Talon Caern operates in extreme secrecy. They refuse to open moon bridges, and keep to themselves on the mountain. The very few others who have been there - mostly Silent Striders - speak in hushed whispers of dark rites and blood-stained glaciers, one even coming away from a visit spinning a tale of flayed human skins adorning the caern's heart.
  80.
  81. PLACES OF POWER
  82.
  83. Cameron Lake
  84. Something lurks in this Vancouver Island lake. Human groups and Garou both have heard whispers and seen things, but neither have gotten a clear look at whatever it is; mortal cryptozoologists speculate a sea serpent or giant fish, while Garou rumour holds that it's one of the Mokole in hiding. A few Children of Gaia speak in hushed whispers that they think the beast is one of the feared Formor dubbed Unicorn in a mockery of their majestic totem, but nothing solid has surfaced despite video and Umbral investigation both. No matter what lives here, though, the Gauntlet around the lake is thin considering its proximity to roads and human settlements, and the Umbra across holds the spiritual resonance of countless doomed vehicles that have plunged into the icy depths.
  85. -
  86. Forbidden Plateau
  87. Long ago, this was the site of a Croatan caern, though now it lies dormant and abandoned. The other pure tribes are reluctant to go near it, stating that the Uktena and Croatan worked together long ago to seal a great bane beneath the plateau, and that to disturb the site is a risky venture at best. So far, no other tribes have reclaimed the dormant caern and even the forces of the Wyrm have left a wide berth around the haunted stretch of land.
  88. -
  89. Cormorant Island
  90. This little island off the coast of the main one is the site of a years-long grand experiment by the Black Furies. Seeking to help the local people get closer to the Wyld, the local Garou have been taking mates among the humans of the tiny island for over fifty years, leading to a huge chunk of the population being Kinfolk, though many likely don't even know. The end goal is to have a place where Garou can walk free and open, though it hasn't yet come to fruition.
  91. -
  92. Cathedral Grove
  93. Home to one of the oldest caerns on Vancouver Island, the Sept of the Skybound Cedar has been under Garou control since 1140, passing hands from the Uktena to the Children of Gaia over the years. Many of the trees of the Grove are old and powerful, many carrying their own ancient spirits gained from a life long lived, and even those felled by nature and man both still stand tall and strong in the Umbra. But the tree spirits of the grove are not all peaceful; the spirit of an ancient redcedar roams the woods after the human-caused death of its worldly body, a potent Naturae war-spirit the Garou have named Scrapes-the-Sky. This old cedar-spirit is elusive and dangerous, and woe betide those mortals with ill intent that wander too deep into the woods, for the gauntlet is thin and the spirit is furious.
  94. -
  95. West Coast Trail
  96. A 75km long trail winding along Vancouver Island, many Garou have debated for years the viability of trying to awaken a caern in the area, as it is frequented by adventurous humans often. Supporters point to the many urban caerns all over the world, and to the Raised Lake Caern in particular on the island, and there's currently a group of Uktena and Children of Gaia searching for a suitable point and a strong enough willing Theurge to make the dream a reality. The park around the trail also houses some of the few wolf kinfolk on the island.
  97. -
  98. Alberni Inlet
  99. Frequented by humans, the inlet isn't used too much for spiritual matters by the Garou, and is often thick with boats. Under the waves, though, a spirit of great power slumbers; a great tsunami spirit that has been dubbed Shaker-of-the-Sea lives here, and occasionally stirs under the waves. The last time it woke completely was in 1964, when it rode the wave that crushed Port Alberni, though it has twitched and seethed in its sleep many times since then, the most recent in early 2018.
