  1. i think it's really hard for me to rank them on ability bc different members have strengths and weaknesses in different aspects of technique? further, like i've mentioned before i have extensive music theory background and training in like 7 different instruments but i've never seriously studied vocals only casual setting exposure so it's not something i feel that i can provide effective commentary on. to that end i think what i can offer you is my ranking of svt's singing according to my personal preferences - not necessarily in order from the strongest ability-wise, but just based on what i like, which is subjective and i feel more entitled to talking about than taking stabs at any objective adjudication.

  3. 1. hoshi - idk what to say, i just love to hear him sing. i can't help it, maybe it's bc i listened to an audio rip of itta itta yo too often. he can be nasally (see masked singer) and i hate when he shout-sings live, but in svt title tracks i love the way he sounds...his voice seems very open?? resonant?? idk if that's the right vocab. i remember once amy was saying she was gonna complain about hosh getting a chorus in some song but then saw/heard him and was like nvm he deserves it. technical ability? probably not the best but idk idc i just rly like his singing...

  5. 2. dk - i'm sorry jeungkwan, i'm RLY weak to falsetto, and dk's falsetto is the prettiest ahhhhhh
  6.
  7. 3. boo - his ost...so good... i think he's a really good singer... i think in the grand scheme of things svt rly lucked out with their main vocals...and main dancers... something rly interesting about seungkwan's singing is sometimes you think he's gonna lose control of his voice but he doesn't break nearly as often as his singing style would suggest...of course he does crack sometimes in like interviews and stuff but he has a pretty good hold...it's just a nice voice i like his singing i think svt's songs are kinda in a weird range like too high for anyone except dk but that's not a fault of seungkwan's singing imo... waiting for him to do a mando duet with jun again plz
  8.
  9. 4. junnie - i know, his vocal cords are like in his nose, i get it, but this is my list of people's voices i like to listen to singing and i'm biased...also his improvement is crazy, he has so much more support in his head voice now...i don't think anyone in pledis is actually getting vocal training post debut so i wish he could have spent more time with tia working on sound production and tone and enunciation and stuff she was suuuuuuuuch a big help in that clip i saw...but i really love his lower range vocal color a lot and in 欲望反光 even his higher range is so pretty to me...i have a confession, i LOVE that song, in part bc i'm a jam hsiao fan but also i just think jun sounds so good in it, like all my dreams have had either this song or cxk's wait wait wait as the bgm in the past two weeks lol. i hope he gets more tutorship to get rid of some of the nasal sound production and i KNOW objectively he's not a great singer but I LIKE HIS SINGING
  10.
  11. 5. joshua/jeonghan - they're tied bc i think i like joshua's lower range better than jeonghan overall but i def like jeonghan overall more than joshua's upper register. joshua...suffers a lot from being pitchy live, and it doesn't help when he has to strain for high notes bc svt's songs are too high for the whole group rly but in studio recordings and songs more in his range i think his voice is pretty. jeonghan is a bit nasally bird too not quite as much as jun but i like his harmonizations and generally think of him as nice sounding and stable.
  12.
  13. 7. xmh - i...dk...what to say...i think it's extremely understandable when people find his voice grating bc i personally found both his spoken and sung voice awful for quite a long time...but i guess i became endeared to him after listening to 夜伴雨 so often, i really like that song, and it's kinda over time conditioned me to his voice. i actually REALLY like some of the songs he did on cyzj except that a lot of them have really weird english parts in them so i don't tend to re-listen to them. listen, this is a message to all cpop idols i follow, your music can be utter trash, i love trashy songs, but just keep your rap in chinese...idky but english rap always annoys me even when there's nothing wrong with the english, i guess i'm just that done with anything from the western hemisphere...
  14.
  15. 8. joozi/chanathan - also not rly sure how to talk about this. for joozi the problem is that i just don't like the sound of his voice. there's nothing wrong with it, technically speaking he's a relief to listen to bc u don't rly have to worry about him being pitchy or cracking or anything like that, he can harmonize, he's got the thorough music background for it but even tho in terms of technical ability he's great it's a personal preference thing...idk if it's bc he sounds nasally to me? but jun is super nasally to me too... idk what it is i've never really liked his vocal color even tho i also think simple is a rly good song and he doesn't sound nasally there. idk moving on, i kinda feel sad that chan is this low bc i think his vocals are very passable. and like i think he's a better rapper than hhu and in top tier for dancing too so #akg*e go solo dini, svt is holding u back...based off of what i remember he was rly in tune in smile flower lives and not aggressively nasally which is more than i can say for half of the others...maybe he should be higher up...
  16.
  17. 10. vern/coup/gyu - to be honest i don't rly have much to say. i don't think any of them are awful singers...? but i have no feeling when i hear them sing. i'm not rly moved by ppl having deep voices first of all. vernon, uh, has fun when he sings, it may not be his forte but i don't think i've ever minded one of his sung parts. mingyu's pronunciation or lack thereof throws me whenever he talks or sings but his actual vocal color sounds decent... coups yells so much in lives, but if he's not using a really nasal sound production i think he's not bad... but despite all that when they're just singing i think it's quite passable, so even tho i'm ranking them last it's not a critical last, i can listen to all of svt sing, and i think i actually listen to a lot more svt music than most of the carrot friends i have.

  19. hmmm...we've finally reached the end...i can't rank wonwoo for any svt purposes, it's just impossible. jww is often flat, often pitchy live, and when i think about svt singing, the thing that sticks out to me the most is how consistently jww and hjs are out of tune in live performances, but their studio recordings are usually fine, and i think they probably have more challenging vocal parts than the even weaker singers in the group? but ww is someone who likes to sing ballads that i was previously already a fan of so i can always tell when he's pitchy bc he's singing songs i'm familiar with. to me he's very much a karaoke singer (i'm not saying this to diss him, i think of jun as a karaoke singer more than anything too) yet at the same time i also have a playlist called '666' which is just him singing, a mashup of his parts in svt songs, his off-key rendition of drunken truth in karaoke, the kill me heal me ost performance he did where he messed up several times, but that playlist is like a siren call...it's hypnotic...i have a serious achilles heel and it's jww lol
