- Act 1, Scene 1
- The heroes start in media-res, traversing through a jungle on the planet Ca'Tallah. Ca'Tallah is a jungle planet, home of the Catallans, which is most famous for its plentiful ancient and sacred ruins. Ca'Tallah is a member of the C.O.P., but remained independent for thousands of years beforehand. Thanks to the ancient ruins that litter the jungles of the planet, the Catallans have to deal with plenty of thieves and treasure hunters... exactly like our heroes! Because of all this, a set of Star Knights have been stationed in Ca'Tallah's sector.
- Catallans are cat people with traits matching tigers, lions, and cheetahs. Each individual Catallan has a unique fur pattern, resulting in a very varied looking species. They have lament kinetic abilities, mostly the ability to form energy knives from their minds. They are mostly amicable and welcoming to guests, but get no mercy from those who defile their temples. The temples and ruins form the basis of a religion that nearly every Catallan follows, making it one of the most important parts of their society.
- Of course, our treasure hunting gang has come in search of one of the ruins, its location given to them as a tip off from an informant at a nearby bar. The gang hopes to use the treasure inside to get some money, as they are nearly broke (all their credits have been spent on frivolous items, as to be expected from a rag-tag group like them).
- The ruins resemble an almost earthly Aztec temple, but with the addition of a large statue outside, resembling a Catallan warrior. The statue guards an entrance closed by stone, and opposite of it seems to be the remains of a second statue. As the party approach, they notice scattered broken bones. The statue's eyes light up as they get a few meters near it, and it springs to life, revealing itself to be the Guardian of the temple!
- The party enter combat with the Guardian, and defeat it in however way they desire. It has a large crack on its back, which seems to be a weak point, but there are plenty of other ways to take it down. With the Guardian defeated, the stone door opens, letting them into the ruins. Inside is a bizarre series of glowing lights, technological in nature and contrasting with the outside of the ruins, and a small pedestal.
- The pedestal lights up as the party approaches, revealing a message:
- ONLY THE WORTHY MAY FIND THE PRIZE
- ON A VOYAGE THROUGH BLACKENED SKIES
- THE GOAL OF YOUR QUEST STEMS
- FROM THE GATHERING OF 7 GEMS
- AND ONCE YOU HAVE MADE IT THROUGH THE MIRE
- YOUR REWARD SHALL BE YOUR HEART'S DESIRE
- Ending the message is a series of numbers, galactic co-ordinates leading them to their next stop. Resting on the pedestal is a small, blue gemstone. With the party having inadvertently entered a galactic scavenger hunt, they are obviously excited to get their greatest desires. They head back to their ship, only to find it surrounded by Catallans, who are suspicious of this ship that landed without any warning in an unsanctioned landing area.
- From here, the party can either head to the ship and leave, or they can go to the nearest town and try to gather some information. The risk of the second option is getting caught, as the Catallans will very quickly realize something is up if the party shines their flashy gem around too often, but can result in some more information on the temple they just went to.
- It doesn't match Catallan architecture, and seems to have been around for as long as anyone can remember. The statues don't react to Catallans, but they are well aware of them being guardians, but most visitors to the planet have been too terrified to take down two of them. Until recently, that is, where another group of explorers managed to destroy one - but were quickly killed by the other, though not without leaving it injured.
- The town doesn't have much, but the Catallan's have Indian-inspired architecture, and there are a few buildings, a small food market, and other such amenities. There isn't a whole lot for the party to stick around for, however.
- The party then returns to their ship, the Wilting Rose, which is a true piece of junk, patched together by cheap handiwork and with a gaudy paint job. But hey, it at least flies! With that, they head off.
