The Green Party is committed to the continued rights of journalists. Throughout the world, governments have routinely silenced the news media and other forms of distributed communications to silence a view that they see as incompatible with the ruling force. The United Kingdom has a long history of supporting human rights and the right to express oneself freely, and it is imperative that the Green Party maintains this support and festers a respect for the media in society, along with further promoting kinder media practices.

We intend to work with The Centre for Investigative Journalism within the UK and we plan to take on advice from organisations like Reporters Sans Frontieres to maintain world press freedom. We do not believe it is right that the United Kingdom has, for three years in a row, kept a ranking of above 30th in the world for press freedom. A free and transparent government has nothing to fear from truthful, evidence based investigative journalism.

The fans of sports teams must always be the driving force of the teams they love. In no country should corporate interests or capitalism infect the world of sport to the detriment of the people. We support the right of teams to self-manage, and plan to work with local communities to make physical activity more accessible to foster a sense of community and shared culture among people of all origins. Furthermore, we pledge, if elected, to keep the prices of football tickets at a standard price to make football matches accessible to anyone regardless of economic status or background. Sports should be open to all people of all backgrounds, instead of just to the privileged few.

The Green Party wishes to increase the freedom of the media by lowering the artificial barriers to entry made by multi-billion pound businesses, and support the end of systemic animal cruelty and environmental damage in sports and culture.

As we have done throughout our history, we continue to lead opposition to the cruel and inhumane fox hunting tradition domestically and internationally.

The Green Party also pledges to support the media industry in the North of England and RUK to make sure that all people can engage in the shaping of culture and to lessen South-centrism in culture. We also plan to support the United Kingdom's arts and culture through continued funding for theatres, cinemas and museums, which help to educate and entertain the people of our country.
