Across the pond

Country life is different from city slicking in many ways. Its quieter, the air is fresher, and you may never ever have to meet your neighbours. But sometimes, even with a peaceful life like this, problems may arise and friends are lost.

A family had just moved in to a piece of farm land sitting beside a rather beautiful lake, the house renovated to almost brand new, and enough room for a little boy to run and play his hearts content.
But the boy didn't play, instead he found himself by the river, sitting against a rock, curled in a ball and sobbing quietly to himself.
“I hate it here...” the boy cried, wiping the next stream of tears from his cheek with his palm. “I want to -hic- go home!”.

“Hey!” a sudden voice called out, catching the boys attention. He pulled himself away from the little ball he had curled himself up in, looking to his left and right and finally behind him to find the source of the voice.

“Wh-who said that?” He asked, now frightened.

“I did.” the voice answered, this time the boy caught on to the location of the voice. He spotted the disturbance in the water, a few ripples gently moving on in all directions as the top of someones head poked from the lake. It had wide, golden eyes and shoulder length blond hair. What more it had green skin with a hint of tan in the front. The boy suddenly froze with fright, visibly shaking as he spotted the strange creature of the lake.

It finally hopped out of the water, landing beside him with a splatter of webbed feet and water, the dusk sun glistening off its body as it turned to face him. The boys fright turned to embarrassment as soon as he realized that the strange creature was a girl, a girl with a rather pretty face. But most of all, the girl wasn't wearing any cloths and was crouched down bare naked in front of the boy.

“Y-You're naked!” the boy pointed out the obvious, his face now flushed red with embarrassment rather than sorrow. The girl looked down at herself at the comment, blinking once before looking back at him with a smile.

“Of course I'm naked, silly! I've always been.” She stated. “Why aren't you naked?”

“B-Because that's gross!” he cried, covering his body as if he truly was naked.
“Hey! I'm not gross!” the girl protested, crossing her arms. “Mama says I'm a very pretty young lady!”.

The boy lowered his head, wiping away what tears were still on his face. “Sorry...”.

The green girl tilted her head, blinking again. “Why are you crying?” she asked him.
“Why do you care?” The boy protested with a sniff.
“Well because you're sad...” she told him with a visible look of concern on her face. “You shouldn't be sad! You should be happy!”.

“But I miss my friends...And my school...And my old house.” He said, wiping his left eye against his palm again.

The girl looked at him and then up at the house atop the cliff.
“Oh!” she exclaimed, clapping her webbed fingers together. “You live inside the wooden cave up there now, huh?”.
“Its not a cave...Its a house.” he corrected her.
“I knew that!” she responded, crossing her arms again as she closed her eyes and nodded.

When she opened her eyes again, she noticed that the boy was still sulking. She frowned before getting a new idea.
“Hey, how about this!” She yelled, slapping her fist against the palm of her other hand. “How about you and me be friends!”.

The boy looked up at her, the tears having finally dried up. “What?” he asked her.

“Yeah! Think about it! You live right up there, I live right down here! We're so close to one another we're bound to run into each other anyway! And I'm just going to -assume- you like to play games! Theres no way we can't be good ol' chums!”.

She scooted over, closer to the boy. “What do y'say, -pal-?” she asked him, reaching out with her webbed hand.
The boy looked at her hand, and then up at her face, the gears in his head were obviously turning. He sat there for a few more seconds before a small smile appeared on his face.
“You got yourself a deal.” he answered, taking her slippery hand in his.

“By the way.” The green girl started again. “I'm Kaeru.” she introduced herself.
“Kaeru?” The boy repeated the name. “Thats a funny name.”.

Kaeru blew at her now partially dry bang at the comment. “Mama says its 'Japanese' for 'Frog'...No idea what a 'Japanese' is.”.

The green girl hopped up to her feet, giving the boy a full frontal view, which caused him to blush even redder and cover his eyes. “So what're you called?” she asked him.

“I'm Conner...” He managed to bleat out from behind his hands. “S-so does that mean you're some kind of frog?”.

“Frog girl.” She corrected him, rather proud of the title.  “I'm a monster!”.
“A monster?” Conner asked, finally peaking from behind his fingers. “You don't look very scary.”.

Kaeru pouted. “Scary? What the heck do you think monsters look like?”.

“W-well...” Conner stuttered out, rubbing the back of his neck. “Shouldn't you have big teeth and giant claws and a lot of fur? Monsters are supposed to eat people and live in haunted houses!”.

Kaeru stuck out her tongue with a loud “Yuck!”. “Why would I eat people? How would I even fit them in my mouth!? My mouth isn't THAT big...”.

Conner once again looked down at the ground.  “Sorry...” he apologized once more.

“Hey! Don't worry about it!” Kaeru shouted, grabbing onto both of Conners wrists and pulling him from the ground.

“H-hey! What are you doing!?” Conner cried, doing his best not to peek at her naked body.
“C'mon Conner! Lets go play!~” Kaeru yelled again with a slight note in her voice, pulling Conner along up and down the side of the lake.

Days come and go for Conner and Kaeru as they explored, played, and pulled pranks on neighbouring farms and communities.
“I'm gonna go play outside!” Conner shouted through the house, being acknowledged by his mothers “Okay, be careful!”.

She watched from the window as her boy ran down the hill towards the lake. “Conner seems to like his new home.” She said with a smile.
His father, looked up from his news paper, standing from his seat and looking out the window with her.
“Thank god, I wasn't sure how he would take it being away from all his friends.” he said with a sigh of relief. “I just needed to get out of the city, it was driving me nuts.”.

“Don't beat yourself up over it, sweetheart.” Conner's mother said, wrapping her arms around him. “It must be good for Conner too, he's always playing at that lake...I wonder what he's doing all day...”.


“Arr! You won't slay me so easily you land lubber!” Captain Ironbuck taunted, swinging his mighty cutlass against the steel of Captain Redcoat of the British Navy. He deflected the mighty blow, twisting his body to the side and striking against the ribcage of Ironbuck, who responded with a deflect of his own.
“Your reign of tyranny ends here, Captain Ironbuck!” Redcoat shouted, fencing blow after blow against Ironbucks Cutlass with his own sabre.

“Har har! You think ye can match the mighty Captain Ironbuck! Mightiest pirate in all der seven seas? You scurvy dog I'll run ye through!”.

“Haha! You're arrogance will be your downfall!” Redcoat mocked as he twisted his sabre around Ironbucks Cutlass, piercing his heart.

Ironbuck yelled in pain, grabbing his chest and stumbling backwards. “Arr! Ye got me! I'll see y'in Davy Jones locker!” Were Ironbucks last words as he stumbled back and fell off the ship into the vicious tsunami below.

-plop-.

Kaeru fell into the lake with a small dip, her makeshift pirate hat and stick floating up to the surface. Conner let out a cheese filled laugh, sheathing his stick in his belt and throwing his hands up into the air.
“Captain Redcoat saved the day once again!” He shouted, almost falling off the split tree himself.

The top of Kaeru's head popped out of the water, followed by the rest of her body as she leaped back on to the log. A few weeks had passed since Conner Finley moved into his new home, and since day one he has been spending his days with Kaeru, so long now that her naked form no longer bothers him and his eyes no longer wander.

“Jeez, you always win!” Kaeru pouted, pushing Conner lightly. “Maybe next time we should fight under water, then we'll see who's a better captain!”.

Conner locked up, licking his lips as he looked to the ground. “I uh...” he murmured.

“You uh...What?” Kaeru taunted, taking a step closer with a sly smirk.

“I can't...I can't swim...” Conner admitted, scarping his foot against the log below.

“What!?” Kaeru responded, clearly shocked. “But everyone can swim!”.

“Not everyone! Especially me...”.

Kaeru glared at him with narrowed eyes, her lower lip jutted above her upper. “I don't believe you.” She told him, her webbed hands now at her sides.

“I really can't!”
“Then why are you always so close to the lake?”
“I never really thought about it.”.

Kaeru chuckled. “Jeez Louis, Conner. You're either really brave or a big dummy.”.

She crossed her arms, losing herself in thought.
“Alright, you convinced me. I'll teach you how to swim.”.
“Wait, bu-”
“No no, don't go falling on your knees and kissing my feet! Its the least I can do for a friend.”

Kaeru took one of her hands from her side, pointing at him. “Get naked! We start now!”.

Conner eep'd, bringing his hands against his crotch and raising a leg. “I-I'm not going to get naked!” he stammered, blushing profusely.

“JEEEeeeezzz.” Kaeru complained. “Then how are ya gonna swim!?”

“I have swim trunks!” he protested. “I'll go get them!”.

“How are ya gonna swim with a tree attached to your legs!?” Kaeru shouted as Conner hopped off the log and ran uphill towards his home. “Conner sure is a big dummy...”.


“You're going swimming?” Conners father asked, looking at him with a raised brow. “Since when can you swim?”.

“Uh... I can't, but its time I'd learn don't you think?”.
“Maybe I should come with you make su-”
“NO!” Conner shouted, raising his hands as to halt his dad. His dad stared down at him, a clearly confused look in his eyes.

“I uh...I'll stick to the shallow end! No need to worry yourself dad, I'll be okay!” Conner explained as he paced his way towards the door before going outside and sprinting towards the lake below.

“...Okay...”.

Conner ran back to the log, Kaeru was still sitting on top of it, pushing her feet through the water below.
“I'm back, Kaeru!” Conner shouted, running around the water and hopping on the log.
“Jeez, finally.” Kaeru complained. “What, did you get lost on the way to your house?”
“Har har.” Conner mocked, sitting down on beside her.

“Right!” Kaeru shouted, leaping off the log and into the water below. “She stayed afloat in place, her head slowly bobbing up and down as she spoke to Conner.
“You gotta move your hands up and down so you don't sink, and keep kicking your legs, don't kick too hard though! Or you'll just get tired and hungry.”.

Conner nodded, taking a deep breath before unbuttoning his shirt.
“Oh, what? You'll take your shirt off but not your pants?”.
“Shut up.” Said Conner as he tested the water with his toe. “Stop trying to see me naked!”

“Why not? You see me naked all the time! It can't be THAT amazing...”.
With one more breath of courage, Conner hopped into the shallow water, his body shivering at first contact.
“Ack! Cold! Cold!” he cried as he forced his head out of the water.

“Easy! Easy!” Kaeru barked, grabbing onto Conners hands to help keep him afloat as he kicked his legs.
“Jeez, Conner, you're a big wuss! I should just start calling you Connie!”.

“S-s-shut up!” he complained, shivering in the cold water. “H-h-h-h-how d-d-d-do you d-d—d-ddo this?”.

“Uh... I kind of live in it.” she retorted, swimming backwards and pulling Conner with her.

“Now remember to kick your legs and keep yourself balanced with your hands.” Kaeru ordered. “It may be harder because your stupid fingers don't have webs, but try your best.”.

Conner took a deep breath, his body becoming familiar with the rigid cold of the lake. He looked Kaeru in the eyes, nodding to her. “Okay, I'm ready!”.

Kaeru nodded back and let go, Conner took deep, steady breaths, gently kicking his legs and moving his arms back and forth.
“Hey! Hey Kaeru I'm doing it!” he shouted happily.

“Hurray!” Kaeru cheered back, clapping her hands together. “See, its no toughy at all! Now lets see how many hours you can hold your breath for!”.

“Uh, humans can't do that.”.
“Really?”
“Yeah...”
“...Well then what are you good for?”.

Conner and Kaeru spent more time playing in the water, splashing at one another or just swimming around until Conner started to get tired. He pulled himself back to land, yawning and watching the sun slowly go down over the tree line. Kaeru hopped out of the water as she usually does, sitting down beside her friend.

“Thanks a bunch, Kaeru.” he said to her with a big smile. She blushed and looked away, her lips pursed.

“H-hey, its no big deal. Everybody should know how to swim! Jeez...”.

“Conner!?”  A familiar voice called out from behind the two. Conner quickly turned around to find his dad standing at the hill, a look of shock on his face.

“Conner get away from that!” he shouted, charging to 'protect' his son from the strange creature.
Kaeru yelped and skid back towards the water, Conner leaping to his feet and standing between his father and his friend, his arms stretched out.

“Dad! Its okay! She's not hurting me!”
“She!?” His dad asked, now looking down at Conner with the same look of shock. “What is that thing!?”.

“Its not a 'thing' dad!” Conner shouted. “Her name is Kaeru and she's my friend!”.

“Kaeru... Conner is this what you've been doing down here for the passed few weeks?”

Conner looked behind him, Kaeru was still out of the water, having slipped and fallen on her behind. She was shielding herself from Conners father, her body shivering with fear.

“Yes, dad! I've been hanging out with Kaeru!”.

Conners father looked down at Conner and then back at Kaeru, who seemed to be less frightened now that he has calmed down. He sighed and looked back to Conner.
“Why is she naked?”

“Shes uh...She's always naked.”.

“Oh...You're not--?”
“No! Dad!”.
“Okay! Okay!”.

He sighed again, putting his hands to his side, he looked over to Kaeru, who was now standing up, still wary of Conners father.
“Young lady!” he bellowed, taking in a deep breath. “I would like to speak to your parents...”.

The Finley family, now standing outside the lake, waited for Kaeru to return.
“A frog girl?” Conners mother asked again.
“Yes.” His father replied.
“Where does she live.”.
“In our back yard.”
“Since when?”
“Since before we moved here...Apparently.”.
“Well...” Conners mother looked up at his father with a stupid smile. “This IS exciting, isn't it?”.

Kaeru finally appeared once more in the lake, she drudged herself out slowly, as if she was in big trouble. Conners mom squinted to see her in the twilight, examining her face before scratching Conner on the head.
“Oh my, she's a keeper that one.”.
“Mooommm...”.

Behind Kaeru came another ripple in the water, this time another “Frog-girl” came with her, a much taller women with a mature face. She shared Kaeru's eyes and hair, though her body was much more, voluptuous than the little ones for obvious reasons.
Kaeru  stood at the side, her arms behind her back as she picked at the rocks below with her foot.

“You must be Conner.” the frog 'Woman' said with a warm smile. “Kaeru has told me a lot about you.”.
“Yes ma'am.” Conner responded, also looking at the ground.
“And then you are...”
“Conners parents.” Conners mother piped up, taking the frog womans hand in hers and shaking. “I'm Linda and this is David.”.
“Oh, uh, h-hello. Its a pleasure to meet you.” David said with a cough, trying not to eye her naked body.
Kaeru's mother smiled. “A pleasure, my name is Hikigaeru.”

Conner stepped to the side to stand beside Kaeru, who leaned in. “Its Japanese for toad.” She whispered to him. “At least that's what she told me.”.


The parents continued to talk, about Conner and Kaeru, about their friendship, and so forth. Until finally David called Conner over, leaving Kaeru to her own mother.

“Conner.” David started.
“We had a long talk with Miss...Hiki..Hi-...Hikig--”
“Hikigaeru.”
“Yes, that.”.

“Her daughter and her have been living in this lake for a very long time. She talked about how meeting you has been some sort of highlight for her. She's smiling more, she laughs more, and she's more willing to go out and get some actual exercise. And since we moved into the country, your mother was worried that it would cripple you socially. Hell, for the longest time we thought you were just down here playing make belief or something.”

“So...What are you saying, dad?” Conner asked.

“I'm saying that...I would probably be for the best...If you and Kaeru continued to  see one another.”
“Really!?”
“Really.”

Conner's entire face lit up with a smile, the heart stopping worry in his chest suddenly lifted, he turned to Kaeru, who go the same news and came running over. She leaped and wrapped her arms around his neck, catching him in a hug that turned his face beat red.

“Hurray! We can still be friends!” She cheered, giggling all the way. Conner was apprehensive at first before saying 'to hell with it' and returning Kaeru's hug.

Kaeru pulled herself away, holding Conners hands in hers. “There's something I want to show you.” she told him with a visible blush on her face.

Conner blinked and looked back to his parents, his father shrugged and waved his hand. “Go ahead.”.

Kaeru pulled him along for some time, through the woods hopping over fallen logs and visible roots until she reached her destination. The thickness of the forest gave way for a small meadow, filled with small flowers and dandelions. In the centre was a small pond, the moon now high up in the sky reflected and shimmered off its calm waters.

“This is my special place...” Kaeru explained. “I always came here when I was sad or afraid or even mad.”
She looked over at Conner with a warm smile. “Since you're my best friend, I want to share it with you.”.

“Kaeru...Its...its really pretty.” Conner complimented, unsure of what really to say.

“See, now when you're scared or sad or mad or anything, you can just come here!”

Conner looked into Kaeru's eyes, returning her smile. “Thank you...” he said to her. The two stood in quiet for some time before Conner shivered.
“We should probably head back...” he said as he turned to leave.
“Yeah, you're probably right. Jeez, you're so fragile.”.
“Shut up.” Conner laughed, punching her lightly in the shoulder.

Years passed, and Conner and Kaeru continued their friendship with no troubles, save for the usual fight that erupts between friends. In the time between their relationship eight years, the secret of monsters was revealed to the world and in that time span were slowly introduced to society. But as society was expected to adapt, so were the monster girls and soon, a symbiosis was formed.

Kaeru walked up the hill towards Conners house, now taller and a perfectly shaped swimmers body. She was now covered with a grey hood, blue jeans, and her hair was tied back. She knocked on the door and received a “Come on in.” from Linda almost instantly.

“Hi Misses Finley!” Kaeru greeted as she stepped inside.
“Oh hi there, Kaeru, how's your mother?”
“She's fine, she really liked those brownies you made for her.”
“Oh thats good.” Linda said with a big smile. “Conners up in his room.
“Like usual...”.

Conner sighed, sitting at his lap top and rubbing his temples. Every college was turning him down like he had a case of the plague.
His door suddenly flew open and in came Kaeru.
“Hey numb nuts.” she taunted as she hopped on to his bed.  “Put your dick back in your pants, you got company.”.

Conner looked back at her from his desk, clearly unamused. “Always the charmer, hey Kaeru?” He asked as brushed back his short brown hair, taking in a deep breath.

“Aw, whats the matter, numb nuts?” She asked him, standing up from his bed and moving in behind them.
“All these damn schools are turning me down like its a god damn party...” he complained, resting his head against his hand.

“C'mon Conner, don't get so angry.” Kaeru comforted, wrapping her arms around Conners chest and resting her chin against the top of his head.

“Deep breaths.” she ordered, leaning from left to right as Conner closed his eyes and took in a breath.

“Why don't you just apply locally?” She asked him. “Its just a cars drive away then and they even said you're as good as in as soon as you apply.”.

“I don't know, Kaeru...” Conner moped. “I just want to see something new, a change of scenery, y'know?”.

She pouted and stepped away from him. “Well fine, don't come crying to me when you die in your room waiting and turn into a ghost.”.

“That's very specific.”.
“Whatever.” She muttered with a punch to his shoulder, “Lets go do something, I'm bored.”.

After a day of just cruising around town, Conner and Kaeru return home, the sun finally setting and coating their homes with a bright orange light.
As they both go into Conners house, his dad suddenly greets him. “Hey-hey! Theres the lucky guy!” he cheers, patting his son on the shoulder.

“Dad? Whats up?”
“Whats up is that you got into a college, that's whats up!” he said with a big smile, showing him the acceptance letter into Seattle state.

“Seattle state!?” Conner asked with a stupid look. “Shit its nothing prestigious, but its something, right?”.

“Haha, thats a days drive away too.” His dad added. “Can't believe my little boy is leaving us soon...”.
David embraced his son, resting his cheek against his head. “Aw, c'mon dad, quit it. I won't be gone forever.”.

“Yeah, but I'll miss you, lil bu-...Hey wait.”. David took a step back from Conner, looking left and right.
“Where did Kaeru go?”
Conner turned around to see that Kaeru had just vanished. He took a step outside and looked around, with only small dents in the dirt to show any sign of her existence.
“Kaeru!?” he called out. “Oh man, I think she's mad...”

Conner pulled his shoes back on, looking back to his mom and dad. “I have a good idea where she went, I don't know when I'll be back.” he told them as he jogged down the hill.

“Whats wrong?” Asked Linda, visibly worried.
“Nothing...” David told her. “Conners just going to be learning something we all already knew.”.



Conner pushed his way through the brush and woods at a brisk pace, he knew exactly where Kaeru had run off to. With one last push through some shrubs he once again returned to the meadow that Kaeru loved so.

He spotted her right away, sobbing quietly to herself and wiping her tears against the sleeves of her hoodie by the pond.

With a deep breath he approached her.  “Kaeru...” he started, getting her attention.
She looked back at him, her eyes still leaking tears and her lip trembling. “What do you want?” she asked him before turning back to the pond.

Conner took a step beside her, putting his hands in his pocket. “Whats the matter?” he asked.
Kaeru stood up, turning to Conner and punching him in the chest.
“You're my problem you ass hole!” she cried before punching him again.

“Came to this place just crying your eyes out like a big cry baby! So I feel sorry for you and pretend to be the big cry babies friends for eight years of my life! Now the big cry babies gonna run away?”

Kaeru wiped the tears from her eyes again before pounding on his chest once more. Conner pulled his hands from his pockets and wrapped his arms around her. She sniffed, burying her face into his chest.

“I'm sorry...” Conner whispered to her. “I didn't know I would hurt you so much with this...”.
“Of course you would you dummy...” she whispered back. “I love you...I've always loved you... Ever since we met back at the lake I've wanted nothing more than to be with you...And now you're leaving me...”.

“Kaeru...” Conner pushed her away gently, looking into her eyes, now puffy from tears. Her lip still trembling and her breath still stumbling.
“You...Love me?” He asked her with her response being a simple nod and a look at the ground.
He could do nothing but simply stare for some time. He finally sighed, raising her chin with his finger so he can look her in the eyes again, and without another word he pulled her closer once more, pressing his lips against hers gently.

Kaeru gasped against his lips, freezing up and shrinking in his arms. She was not expecting a sudden response to her feelings, especially not like this. Her heart began to race as she finally accepted his kiss, pulling her arms up through his and wrapping them around his neck.

They pulled their lips away from one another, a dumbstruck look in Kaeru's eyes as she pressed her body against Conner.
“Conner...” she whispered again, as she reached up, rubbing her nose against his and kissing him once more.
“Conner...” she repeated once more, now pushing herself against him.
He didn't need fire works to understand what was happening, his eyes locked with Kaeru's, her breath becoming heavier and her body language changing and becoming more intimate. Conner lowered his head against her neck, kissing her green skin softly as he slowly lowered her on the meadow below.
“Are you sure about this, Kaeru?” he asked her with her response being a smile and a light knock on the top of his head.
“Of course I am, you dummy.” she giggled. Conner smiled and pressed his lips against hers once more,  pushing his tongue through and against hers. With his left hand he began to move it under her hoodie, his fingertips brushing against her skin until he placed it between her breasts. Her heart was pounding ferociously in her chest at the touch. Her skin itself, although moist and smooth like a frogs, was also soft and delicate like that of a woman's, a detail Conner seems to enjoy.

He pried himself away from her mouth, almost against his own will, and moved back to her neck, kissing it as his hand moved to grope her. Kaeru let out a soft, feminine yelp as Conner's hand fondled and kneaded her breast, occasionally playing with and twisting the nipple lightly.
Conner began to push her hoodie upwards with the wrist of his hand on Kaeru's breast, balancing himself to use the hand he was holding himself up with to remove the piece of clothing from her body.

Kaeru squeaked, forcing her hand under Conners and covering herself from his gaze.
“Whats the matter? I've seen you naked plenty of times before.” He moped, sitting up.

“I-I know!” She stuttered. “Its just...Kind of embarrassing now.”.

Conner couldn't do anything but laugh, leaning forward and and flicking her on the forehead.
“Even after all the bravado, you're still such a girly girl on the inside.”.

“Don't ruin the moment, numb nuts.” Kaeru retorted, bonking him on the top of his head again.
“Don't worry, I won't.” Conner assured her, giving her yet another kiss on the lips,and then on her chest, and then one on her stomach, going lower and lower until he reached her blue jeans, unzipping them and pulling them down. Kaeru's legs were lifted into the air as Conner relieved her of her jeans, leaving her as bare as she usually is while not in public.

But even so, Kaeru had her webbed hands against her face, covering her her eyes with a visible blush on her face. Conner looked at her body from head to toe, once again seeing her as not just a friend, but as a woman. He gulped down the lump in his throat, placing a hand on each knee and spreading her legs to reveal her womanhood, her entire body now shivering in both fear and anticipation.

With another gulp, he moved between her legs, staring at the clean vulva with a dumbfound expression.
