- Notes:
- Looks very nice, but a little cheap and shitty up close
- No volume attenuation knob(!!!!!!) so you need to lower the PC's volume, or fiddle with shitty buttons
- Line out is pretty cool for those with speakers that use 3.5mm jacks
- Distributes power equally, not equittably
- Doesn't do much for the soundstage
- Feels like it just delivers raw power, no control
- NuForce uDAC 2
- Price: 5.9k (100 USD on Amazon)
- Specs:
- USB-powered
- USB input
- Coax out
- RCA L/R out
- Audio Out, 3.5mm x1
- Volume Attenuation Knob + Power (zero-click to off)
- Works at 24bit, 96kHz(ridiculous rate that no one uses anyway)
- 2"x3"x0.75"
- Notes:
- Looks a lot more polished; nice matte finish
- RCA out for those who use speakers
- Nice and firm volume knob, satisfying click
- Works wonders with soundstage
- Amplifies with finesse; bass is given power, but treble does not overpower
- --
- Verdict:
- D5 is great value for money
- uDAC is probably that 20% better, sound quality-wise
- uDAC has a fucking volume knob for christ's sake
- Thus: uDAC, unless you really can't afford it. then the D5.
- Edit: the uDAC apparently has a lot of channel imbalance issues, and a very high maximum gain. take that as you will. it also clips/distorts at 0dbfs but you should be ashamed of yourself for having such shit music, and the music mastering engineers responsible for that should be ashamed of themselves for mastering like idiots.
