  1. Session Start: Fri Sep 25 14:19:00 2015
  2. ----
  3. [14:56] <@Kaelan> Epilogues. Are not... conclusions...
  4. [14:56] <Abel9210> huh what
  5. [14:56] <@Kaelan> Controvery over the Epilogue not being included in the Season Pass for King's Quest.
  6. [14:57] <Abel9210> oh
  7. [14:57] <Zero1000> Oh
  8. [14:57] <Abel9210> er, if I'm not wrong
  9. [14:57] <@Kaelan> People are trying to stipulate it's cutting out the end of the game's story. Which... is not the definition of an epilogue.
  10. [14:57] <Abel9210> isn't this the same game whose devs stole money from Homestuck to fund King's Quest
  11. [14:57] <Zero1000> So, what are epilogues?
  12. [14:58] <@Kaelan> Epilogues are commentaries or discussions on the way a play or book concludes. In other words you literally can't have an epilogue without a conclusion or ending actually having happened.
  13. [14:58] <@Kaelan> And no, they didn't steal Homestuck's money
  14. [14:58] <Abel9210> I was going to copy-paste Google's definition
  15. [14:58] <@Kaelan> and it didn't fund King's Quest.
  16. [14:58] <Abel9210> so what was that controversy about, then
  17. [14:58] <@Kaelan> Activision funded King's Quest.
  18. [14:59] <@Kaelan> It was angry Homestuck people who were misled by the creator of Homestuck as to what happened regarding them.
  19. [14:59] <Abel9210> oh
  20. [14:59] <Abel9210> I feel a bit dumb
  21. [14:59] <Abel9210> I don't actively follow Homestuck
  22. [14:59] <Abel9210> I just remembered hearing it from Dawn's twitter
  23. [15:00] <@Kaelan> Homestuck's creator paid Gentleman's nominal fee to begin development on the game, then told them to stop working for months. When people started demanding update progress, he blamed Gentlemen on not doing work. So they opted to leave.
  24. [15:00] <Abel9210> that's a different kind of fucked up
  25. [15:00] <@Kaelan> Of course, legally they had the right to retain the nominal fee.
  26. [15:00] <@Kaelan> So to cover his screwup, he claimed they stole funds indirectly by having a friend say they did casually.
  27. [15:01] <@Kaelan> They actually had a lawsuit and it was settle out of court.
  28. [15:01] <@Kaelan> As I understand it, Gentlemen only kept about 20% of the fee they were legally owed for the time wasted.
  29. [15:01] <@Kaelan> That barely covered their expenses for the months the dude refused to let them work.
  30. [15:02] <Abel9210> I can't imagine paying people to not work on a game
  31. [15:02] <@Kaelan> He wanted them to wait till he finished the series.
  32. [15:02] <Abel9210> and then lying about it when people get antsy
  33. [15:02] <@Kaelan> He then took a 3 month hiatus right after the kickstarter ended from the series.
  34. [15:02] <@Kaelan> TOG meanwhile worked on two other projects before even starting King's Quest.
  35. [15:03] <@Kaelan> TO claim they used Homestuck money on it is just plain silly.
  36. [15:04] <@Kaelan> Since they worked on one side game and Neil Gaiman's disaster of an adventure game before they got to King's Quest. Considering Activision is one of the single largest, multi-billion dollar companies in the industry... why would they need to use stolen funds?
  37. [15:04] <@Kaelan> THe disaster, btw, is because a publisher took over and drastically changed their work. To the pount that TOG asked them not to put their name on the product.
  38. [15:05] <Abel9210> >mostly negative
  39. [15:05] <Abel9210> christ
  40. [15:05] <@Kaelan> Yeah, the publisher seriously screwed it up.
  41. [15:05] <@Kaelan> Meanwhile King's Quest?
  42. [15:05] <Abel9210> also, as for the homestuck game
  43. [15:05] <@Kaelan> Glorious.
  44. [15:05] <Abel9210> even if he wanted them to wait
  45. [15:05] <Abel9210> I'd think that getting a foundation in place would have worked
  46. [15:05] <@Kaelan> They tried.
  47. [15:06] <Abel9210> and then they could have waited for the dude to finish the series and accomodate whatever happened afterwards
  48. [15:06] <@Kaelan> The Homestuck creator actually took down a history of posts showing they had been working. Including concept renders and background assets.
  49. [15:06] <Abel9210> this goes beyond 'lol I have no common sense whatsoever'
  50. [15:06] <@Kaelan> I think the settlement included that they remove their own evidence of that, because a week after the settlement, TOG took their own tumblr posts down about it.
  51. [15:07] <@Kaelan> Also 90% of what the Homestuck guy has shown on his blog about his "in house developement" of the game?
  52. [15:07] <@Kaelan> TOG work.
  53. [15:10] <Abel9210> I didn't care about Homestuck before
  54. [15:10] <Abel9210> now I have negative respect for the creator
  55. [15:11] <Abel9210> thanks for the info dump
  56. [15:13] * Rive ([email protected]) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
  57. [15:13] <Zero1000> Now i also seem to have disrespect about Homestruck creator too.
  58. [15:13] <Abel9210> 'seem'
  59. [15:13] <Zero1000> Oh
  60. [15:14] <Zero1000> By the way, have you been hearing to anything recently?
  61. [15:14] <@Kaelan> King's Quest kind of proved that the community following HS can be led like sheep.
