WLCVGR — Video Game Radio Playlist: Super Mario — Bowser Themes (Main Series Only) [Ver.1] Video Link: https://youtu.be/X-Gc9ljHstk Subject: Curator's Commentary 🎵 General WLCVGR Playlist Notes 🎵 ♪ This playlist contains minor–major spoilers, depending on your tolerance for "spoiler-tier" content. ♪ In order to best preserve the sound and feel of the music as it was originally intended to be heard, this playlist consists only of music that can be found within official "Super Mario" video games. Tracks of the following categories will not appear in the playlist: Officially sanctioned arrangements found outside of the games, Unofficial fan-created arrangements, & Unofficial fan-created original soundtracks for fan-created games/mods. ♪ Exhaustive comprehensiveness was the goal of this playlist. ♪ Future "revised" playlists may include relevant music from new Super Mario titles. 🎵 "Super Mario" General Playlist Notes 🎵 ♪ "Hurry Up" renditions of tracks will not be represented on this playlist. "Hurry Up" renditions can be described as the "sped up versions" of background tracks that play when time is running low in most 2D Super Mario titles. ♪ While tracks in the playlist have been arranged in chronological order (according to release date) to best give the listener a "feel" for how the hardware technology evolved over time, an exception was made in regards to how "Super Mario All-Stars" was presented. Rather than being grouped together after "Super Mario World" (which would be "All-Stars'" chronological location), the "All-Stars" renditions of NES tracks were arranged to play directly after their NES counterparts to help create a logically smooth and consistent listening experience. ♪ "Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels" was not represented on this playlist because it reuses all of the music from "Super Mario Bros.," save for a new ending theme. ♪ "Bowser's Fury," a game bundled with the Nintendo Switch port of "Super Mario 3D World," currently has no representation on this playlist due to a lack of an official soundtrack from Nintendo. Normally, a gamerip would be pursued as an alternative option. However, due to how recently "Bowser's Fury" was released in relation to this playlist's creation, the curator is giving Nintendo more time to offer an official release. If no official soundtrack is provided in reasonable time, future revisions of this playlist may include tracks sourced from gamerips. 🎵 Playlist-Specific Notes 🎵 ♪ Certain titles do not feature unique music for the end-game "Bowser's castle" stage, instead using the particular game's standard "castle" theme. To best remain true to the theme of "Bowser" themes (this is not a playlist of "castle" themes), titles that do not feature a unique "Bowser's castle" theme will not have their "final stage" theme represented. These titles include: ♪ "Super Mario Bros." ♪ "Super Mario Bros. 3" ♪ "Super Mario World" ♪ "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" ♪ "New Super Mario Bros." ♪ "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" ♪ "New Super Mario Bros. 2" ♪ "New Super Mario Bros. U" ♪ Note that "Super Mario Bros.'s" standard "castle" theme was included regardless of the aforementioned ruling. This is because "Super Mario Bros.'s" original NES release only has one possible music track to represent Bowser. Thus, this version of this game is an exception to the rule. ♪ Themes relating to or representing the Koopalings (AKA the Koopa Kids) or Bowser Jr. will not be included in this playlist. This compilation is designed to highlight the Bowser character exclusively. ♪ Despite its dubious inclusion in the official Super Mario canon, "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island" was included because a) it has "Super Mario" right in the title, b) Mario is a major character in the game, c) the game's music is incredible, and d) the game serves as the original splinter point for the Mario and Yoshi franchises. ♪ A number of music tracks from "Super Mario Galaxy" were reused in "Super Mario Galaxy 2," including "Attack of the Airships," which played during the sequel's opening segments involving Bowser's invasion. Though "Attack of the Airships" is a track that was originally composed for and appeared in "Super Mario Galaxy [1]," it was chosen to appear in line with the sequel's portion of the playlist to better complete the game's aural progression. ♪ "Super Mario 3D Land's" Tail Bowser is technically not Bowser at all, but a fake! The character is either a Goomba or a Magikoopa possessed by a Super Leaf magically transformed into a Bowser disguise. Regardless of Tail Bowser's true identity, his music theme was included in this playlist as it still represents Bowser well. ♪ On that note, the "castle" themes that play during the stages in which Tail Bowser appears are also included in the playlist for similar reasons as stated above. ♪ Additionally, Dry Bowser appears in an unlockable post-game level. However, his battle theme is a reuse of Tail Bowser's battle theme. To avoid visual confusion with on-screen continuity, Dry Bowser was not pictured or mentioned in the playlist. ♪ "New Super Mario Bros. 2" is one of the few Super Mario game to feature an optional post-game "final boss" in the form of Dry Bowser. Conveniently, if disappointingly, Dry Bowser's battle themes are simply a reuse of Bowser's final battle themes from the "main game." ♪ Similarly, "Super Mario Odyssey" features an unlockable post-game battle against Bowser. However, as this battle is simply a more difficult version of the "true" final battle, it reuses the same music track as the "normal" version. ♪ "Super Mario Run" was included because it technically is a Super Mario game, even if feels like more of a "best of/compilation" sort of affair. ♪ "Super Mario Odyssey" features an in-game music player that is unlocked upon completing the "main campaign." "Break Free (Lead the Way) (8-Bit)" is a song that must be further unlocked from a character named Jammin' Toad before it can be selected for playback. This song (or more specifically, this version of the song) is not heard anywhere else in the game, but is still included in this playlist as a "bonus track."
