[20:40:18] [@castfromhp] The avalanche caught you particularly off guard. You feel yourself tumbling off the side of the trail, luckily cushioned by the snow packed tightly around you. A hand yanks at yours pulling you hard, and then you hear the sound of ice scraping against rock as you continue to slide down, then a splash! [20:40:32] * Tupac (~weed@D4BEB7EE:161CD349:3604C93C:IP) has joined #snowberrylake [20:41:07] [@castfromhp] It takes you a few moments to regain your bearings, and once you do, you find yourself on an ice floe slowly drifting into the center of a large, half-frozen lake. [20:41:44] [@castfromhp] You can see Astrid's arms sticking out of a large pile of snow next to you. [20:43:48] [@castfromhp] Looking up, you can also see the trail you fell from - high up in the cliffs, and now absolutely covered in snow and ice. [20:46:31] * Percival tries helping pull their arms out of the snow. "Are you alright?" [20:47:54] [@castfromhp] Astrid is pulled out of the snow with a gasp. "Brrrrr! Thanks! I got we were both goners." She shakes the snow off of herself and looks around, wincing as the wind picks up and a light hail begins to fall from the sky. "Aw hell, now what?" [20:49:37] [@castfromhp] Your ice floe drifts further into the lake. You can see a mass of similar frozen floes spread out in the distance, leading to a larger frozen section of lake, but the intensifying snow and wind make it difficult to see much further out. [20:50:35] [Percival] "I'm not so sure, we should see about getting onto something a bit more solid though." [20:50:53] [Percival] "I think we might be a great deal lower tha nthe others after that fall." [20:52:46] [@castfromhp] "Assumin' they didn't get knocked somewhere down here too. Might be better than being buried up there..." Astrid checks her lantern, making sure her Litwick is okay, then starts unpacking her bag. She removes rope, binoculars, an ice pick, and a few other survival tools and stares at them in consternation. "....Nope, none o' these is anythin' like a paddle." [20:53:14] [@castfromhp] "Any ideas? I'm not raring to go for a swim here." [20:55:46] [Percival] "Jumping to another one of the other floes might be the best we can do without a paddle. I don't think our hands would much do for pushing this block around." [20:57:01] [@castfromhp] The closest floe is at least 5 meters away, you'd guess. The snow and hail grow stronger. [21:00:05] [@castfromhp] "Hmmm, think I'll pass on jumpin'. That sounds like asking to go for a swim." Astrid glances around and holds out a hand to the sky. "Looks like we got a snowstorm brewin' here, so guess we gotta make our move quick." [21:00:30] [Percival] "Oh I might have an idea, we could attach your pick and rope together and pull an ice floe closer." [21:02:07] [@castfromhp] "Good thinkin'." Astrid starts tying her rope to the end of her pick. "Got a Pokemon that can bring it over? My throwin' arm's pretty good, but I'd rather not take chances here." [21:05:26] * Percival releases Basa Basa beside the rope. "I certainly do, I don't think he'll mind too much." [21:06:07] [Percival] "You think you can lodge this pick in the floe closest here?" [21:07:53] [@castfromhp] Basa Basa shivers in the chill wind but nods, picking up the pick in his oversized mouth and fluttering over to a large ice floe nearby. He dives down at it and securely plunges the pick deep into the ice before quickly flying back and clinging onto you for warmth. [21:08:42] [@castfromhp] "Aw." Astrid puts her lantern near you and the bat, and the Litwick inside flares up to better fight the cold. [21:08:57] [Percival] "Thats a good job, I got ya." [21:10:09] [@castfromhp] "Aight, that one's a good deal bigger than ours, so if we pull, we should be able to drag ourselves over to it." Astrid grabs hold of the rope and grunts as she starts tugging. "Gimme a hand here?" [21:11:22] * Percival takes another part of the rope and starts pulling. "I'm on it." [21:14:50] [@castfromhp] The two of you make slow but steady progress pulling yourselves near the larger block of ice. As you do, you hear a faint humming of a gentle melody up ahead. A small Lapras, no bigger than the palm of your hand, is waddling around atop the floe you're approaching. It looks at the embedded ice pick with curiosity, then turns and looks at the pair of you in surprise. [21:17:35] [Percival] "Huh, I wonder if that little fella's family is around." [21:18:41] [@castfromhp] "I kinda hope not. What if they think we're tryin' take their baby?" Astrid glances around in the water, looking for ominous dark shapes in the lake. [21:20:00] [@castfromhp] By this point, you've manged to pull yourself to the larger floe. "Huh, this is probably where I should be lookin', isn't it?" She mutters to herself, then shakes her head. "Nah, now's not the time. Alright, up we go." She scoops up her stuff and climbs up to the other floe, then offers you a hand. The little Lapras crawls away to the edge of the floe. [21:20:38] * Percival takes her hand. "Might be a better view here yeah." [21:23:05] [@castfromhp] The storm continues to grow stronger around you, and Basa Basa clings tightly to your back. From here, you can see an array of ice floes in front of you, much closer together and easier to traverse than the one you just got off of. Further up ahead is a sheer cliff, with a frozen waterfall leading into the lake you're on. [21:23:52] [@castfromhp] "So," Astrid says as her teeth chatter, "what brings you up to Snowberry? You just adventurin' like Ellis? Or you got business like Alice does?" [21:26:04] [Percival] "We've got some business, checking out the gym and the strange pokemon strains that have been happening all about." [21:26:28] [Percival] "Though it seems like we're already nearing one of them if a pokemon caused that cave in." [21:28:53] [@castfromhp] "Oh that's exciting! Hey, you wouldn't be working for one of those big-deal professors, would ya? Benedict, Grit, and Bing? I read about those 'frenzy pokemon' that've been reported recently." Astrid approaches the baby Lapras, which begins to tremble, and pats it lightly on the head. [21:33:57] [Percival] "Yeah, I and the other three were hired by Benedict as research aids." Percival checks on the baby Lapras. [21:34:12] [Percival] "You haven't seen any of the frenzied pokemon in your travels have you?" [21:35:40] [@castfromhp] "Oh, that's a pretty sweet gig." Astrid moves over to give you room to check on the baby Lapras, which begins to cry softly as now it has TWO big scary humans LOOMING over it. "Oh no I think we're scaring it." [21:36:57] [@castfromhp] "And nah, I've seen some pretty gnarly Pokemon, but nothin' berserker-like. I'm mostly searching for the reallllly old ones. Y'know, centuries' old trevenants and torkoals, that sorta thing. I heard there was an ancient cloyster in the lakes around Snowberry, which is why I'm up here." [21:40:53] [Percival] "Ah, that makes a good deal of sense. Seems like an interesting sort of search you're doing." [21:41:33] * Percival puts gently his hand out for the Lapras to examine before getting too close. [21:42:43] [@castfromhp] The Lapras looks warily at your hand. Then, suddenly, a snowball hits you lightly in the head! Then another! You look to see where it came from, and you spy a Piplup at a nearby ice floe. It hops forward, landing between you and the Lapras with its wings akimbo, glaring at you. [21:44:05] [@castfromhp] Astrid laughs. "I guess this guy fancies himself a hero." [21:47:23] [Percival] "Maybe a friend of theirs? Sorry about scaring you and your friend there." [21:48:19] [Percival] "It might be a good idea heading closer to land, I don't think we want to stay outside too long." [21:48:38] [@castfromhp] The Piplup puffs itself up, but the Lapras hums at it and it stands down. The Lapras cautiously approaches your hand and puts a fin on it, then both it and the Piplup freeze up. Roll perception. [21:48:56] [@castfromhp] "Yeah, agreed." Astrid nods, taking out her binoculars and looking at the path ahead. [21:49:05] [@castfromhp] er, perception or acrobatics, your choice. [21:50:51] [Percival] 4d6 Perception [21:50:51] [CritSenpai] Perception: 18 [4d6=5,6,1,6] [21:52:12] [@castfromhp] You feel something's amiss and hear a scuttling sound behind you. A crawdaunt lunges at you from behind, but you noticed it in time to scramble out of the way. It clicks its claws at you menacingly as another of its species crawls up on your ice floe. It looks to be readying for another attack! [21:56:08] [Percival] "It's definetely time for all of us to get out of here! Nobody left behind." Percival scrambles trying to pull the piplup and lapras away from the crawdaunt. [21:56:48] [@castfromhp] Roll acrobatics or survival! [21:58:40] [Percival] 3d6+1 Acrobatics and AP [21:58:41] [CritSenpai] Acrobatics and AP: 12 [3d6=4,5,2] [22:00:31] [@castfromhp] You manage to snatch up the two Pokemon and get to the far edge of the floe before the Crawdaunt manages to pinch at you again AND without slipping on the ice! [22:01:58] [@castfromhp] Astrid pulls out a small capsule and cracks it open on one of the Crawdaunt, releasing a pink mist over it. It falls asleep, but its buddy scuttles up onto the floe and slams into her leg as she does. "Augh! Yeah, let's go!" She hobbles over to the edge, then hops to another floe, waving for you to follow. [22:04:58] * Percival follows behind Astrid carefully. [22:06:17] [@castfromhp] You scramble over to the next ice floe. All around behind you, you can hear the sound of clicking pincers. If you turn to look, you can see about a dozen Crawdaunt crawling up onto the ice and slowly making their way towards you, swimming from floe to floe as well. [22:06:42] [@castfromhp] The Lapras and Piplup you've picked up cling tightly to you, and the Lapras begins to cry again. [22:10:16] * Percival tries patting the Lapras as he moves forward. "We'll be fine, I promise!" [22:12:01] [@castfromhp] You'll have to hop across the floes to get away. Roll acrobatics or survival! [22:13:09] [Percival] 3d6+1 Acrobatics and AP [22:13:10] [CritSenpai] Acrobatics and AP: 7 [3d6=1,2,3] [22:14:35] [@castfromhp] You and Astrid manage to make it a good floes away, but you're both caught off guard by a Crawdaunt anticipating the floe you're hopping to and ambushing you as you land. [22:15:03] [@castfromhp] It pinches your pants legs, causing you to trip and slam down into the floe where it prepares to continue its assault. Initiative! [22:16:03] [Percival] Percival 12, Basa Basa 18 [22:16:10] [@castfromhp] On the other side of your island, it looks like Astrid got tripped up as well and is wrangling with another Crawdaunt which is trying to pinch her face off. [22:16:21] * castfromhp has changed the topic to: Basa Basa > Percival > Crawdaunt [22:16:30] [@castfromhp] Basa Basa flies up to your defense! Take your turn! [22:18:45] [Percival] Basa Basa flies up and slams into the Crawdaunt wing first! [22:18:48] [Percival] 1d20+1 ac 2 [22:18:49] [CritSenpai] ac 2: 14 [1d20=13] [22:18:52] [@castfromhp] Hits! The physical hit seems to be having trouble getting through its tough shell. [22:20:12] [@castfromhp] Percival! [22:21:26] * Percival binds Reckless Advance and Focus Training to Basa Basa and attempts to scramble further away from the Crawdaunt. [22:21:51] [@castfromhp] The Crawdaunt lunges forward, swiping at Basa Basa! [22:21:53] [@castfromhp] 1d20 razor shell [22:21:54] [CritSenpai] razor shell: 5 [1d20=5] [22:21:59] [@castfromhp] ac 3 [22:22:13] [@castfromhp] It misses! Back to Basa Basa! Even if each blow wasn't much to it, the three in succession have left it a bit worn out. Nonetheless, it hops up in the air and tries to slam down with all its weight on Basa Basa! [22:31:23] [@castfromhp] 1d20 body slam [22:31:23] [@castfromhp] 2d10+10+25 if hits [22:31:23] [CritSenpai] body slam: 11 [1d20=11] [22:31:24] [CritSenpai] if hits: 41 [2d10=1,5] [22:31:49] [@castfromhp] And then back to Basa Basa [22:32:22] [Percival] (yep) [22:36:14] [Percival] Basa Basa tries switching tactics a bit and shines down a ray of light on the Crawdaunt! [22:39:52] [@castfromhp] In its daze, the Crawdaunt mistakes the hat for an actual Mawile and scuttles back in terror! It tries to steel its resolve for another attack on the bat [22:39:54] [@castfromhp] 1d2 confus [22:39:55] [CritSenpai] confus: 2 [1d2=2] [22:40:10] [@castfromhp] 1d20 razor shell ac 3 [22:40:11] [CritSenpai] razor shell ac 3: 12 [1d20=12] [22:40:27] [@castfromhp] 3d10+10+22 and -1 def cs [22:40:28] [CritSenpai] and -1 def cs: 55 [3d10=9,8,6] [22:40:30] [Percival] (hits yeah) [22:40:50] [@castfromhp] Back to the bat! [22:41:57] [Percival] Basa Basa faints from the last assault by the Crawdaunt. [22:42:18] [@castfromhp] It clicks its claws in gleeful victory. [22:42:56] [@castfromhp] Initiative on next Pokemon? [22:43:56] * Percival recalls Basa Basa and sends out Fumu (17). [22:44:08] [@castfromhp] Go ahead with Fumu's turn and yours! [22:44:12] * castfromhp has changed the topic to: Fumu > Percival > Crawdaunt [22:45:36] [Percival] Fumu hurls a ball of pure energy towards the Crawdaunt! [22:45:38] [Percival] 1d20+1 Aura Sphere [22:45:39] [CritSenpai] Aura Sphere: 21 [1d20=20] [22:46:40] [Percival] 4d8+20+19 Fighting Special [22:46:40] [CritSenpai] Fighting Special: 61 [4d8=5,6,8,3] [22:46:51] [@castfromhp] The Crawdaunt barely has a moment to register panic in its eyes before it's nailed by the whirling sphere of energy! [22:47:14] [@castfromhp] It's knocked into the air and falls down in an arc into the water, splashing unceremoniously. [22:48:37] [Percival] "Good job! We should see how Astrid's faring with hers." [22:48:48] [@castfromhp] Meanwhile, on the other side of your floe, Astrid has pulled out her sword and has been dueling her Crawdaunt assailant, with a Deino at her side. The little blind dragon charges at it and flings it into onto the next floe over, where it lays still. She turns to you and wipes away blood from a large gash on her face. [22:49:13] [@castfromhp] "You okay? We better keep runnin'" She nods her head towards the swarm of Crawdaunt still scuttling to reach you. [22:50:17] [Percival] "Yeah, I'm alright, we're getting out of here." [22:50:35] [@castfromhp] Roll acrobatics or survival again as you continue to cross the floes! [22:50:46] [Percival] 3d6+1 Acrobatics and AP [22:50:46] [CritSenpai] Acrobatics and AP: 10 [3d6=6,1,2] [22:51:36] [@castfromhp] This time, you manage to outrun the Crawdaunts without incident, jumping deftly from floe to floe. You quickly reach the edge of the lake, which is surrounded by high cliffs and the frozen waterfall you spied earlier. [22:52:04] [@castfromhp] Astrid stops for a breather, panting. The Crawdaunt are still after you, but they're slow and you've got a moment to assess the situation and figure out what's next. [22:52:34] [@castfromhp] The Lapras and Piplup squirm in your arms. Fumu flies up high, scouting the cliffside. [22:54:38] [Percival] "Think there's any more fragile floes? It might keep them a bit further behind if one broke under the lot of em." [22:56:13] [@castfromhp] "Oh you wanna start breakin' 'em up? Yeah, that's a good thought." Astrid taps at the lantern hooked on her belt. "Hypatia, light it up!" The Litwick spews a jet of flame, engulfing the closest floes to shore. [22:58:21] [@castfromhp] A couple Spheals sleeping on floes nearby wake up from the heat of the fire and start retreating to shore in case their islands get targeted next. They roll up near you and promptly return to sleep. [23:02:15] * Percival looks up and down the cliffside to see if there might be any footholds. [23:03:29] [@castfromhp] You do spot a few spots where you'd have an easier time climbing up, but it'll be kinda tough holding the Pokemon you are. Fumu flies over to point out a few spots with a wing too! [23:08:19] [Percival] "Hmm, do you think you could help hold the Piplup here? I think i might have a way to keep them a bit safer when climbing." [23:09:56] [@castfromhp] "Sure." Astrid opens her messenger bag up and sets the penguin inside, its head poking out the top. It squeeks in protest and waves its wings about but settles down. At that moment, you feel a a sudden chill run over you, and a swirling white mist starts sweeping in from the direction of the lake. [23:10:55] [@castfromhp] Astrid shivers as she turns around. Where the mist rolls in, the lake begins to freeze up entirely. The Crawdaunts caught in the water and trapped in a thin sheet of ice as this happens, but those on the floes hop down onto the newly formed surface and continue their approach, unfazed by their companions' predicament. [23:10:56] * Percival opens his collection jar, fills it with a bit of water and helps the Lapras inside. He then tucks the jar into his coat front for safety. [23:11:12] [Percival] "I think it's about time we head out of here." [23:11:36] [@castfromhp] "No disagreement here!" Astrid recalls her Deino and then begins scaling the cliffside. [23:12:00] * Percival starts climbing up the cliffside with haste. [23:12:08] [@castfromhp] roll athletics or survival! [23:12:40] [Percival] 4d6+1 Athletics and AP [23:12:41] [CritSenpai] Athletics and AP: 17 [4d6=3,6,2,5] [23:14:16] [@castfromhp] You make good time getting up the cliff, helped by Fumu's guidance. The mist, however, is faster. It enshrouds you, chilling the air around you and biting through even your thick winter clothes. The tips of your fingers begin to tingle and go numb as you climb, and it's hard to see very far around you. You can barely make out Astrid's form, just a meter or two away. [23:14:40] [@castfromhp] As you're about to reach for the next foothold that Fumu points out to you, a fat blue bird plops itself down right where you were gonna reach. [23:15:02] [@castfromhp] It's hard to make out its exact form with the cloying mists growing thicker around you. [23:15:58] [@castfromhp] "Percival, ya still there?" Astrid calls out at you. Even her voice sounds oddly muffled in this mist. [23:16:29] [Percival] "I'm still here but, there's another pokemon up on the cliff here." [23:17:08] [Percival] "Please, would it be possible for you to move... bird? There's a couple little ones with us." [23:17:21] [@castfromhp] "Just push it outta the way! We don't have time to dawdle here." Astrid says. [23:18:29] [@castfromhp] The bird turns toward you and coos, tilting its head. It flaps its wings up and moves up and away - and to the next foothold you'd take after the one it just vacated. [23:19:24] * Percival tries nudging the bird gently while climbing. "There's something down there, I don't think you want to see it!" [23:22:57] * Percival throws a great ball towards the stubborn bird to help move it out of their way permanently. [23:23:06] [@castfromhp] Roll it~ [23:24:08] [Percival] 1d20 ac 6 [23:24:08] [CritSenpai] ac 6: 18 [1d20=18] [23:24:13] [@castfromhp] hits! In the flash of light provided by the Pokeball, you get a better view of the bird before it flutters its wings in annoyance and then flies further up the cliffside to leave your path free. [23:26:24] [@castfromhp] https://www.dropbox.com/s/kho28j2e775bnm5/cute%20birb.png?dl=0 [23:28:56] * Percival clambors up the cliff after the bird leaves. "That's certainly an astounding creature but, we need to get to safety first." [23:31:13] [@castfromhp] "-CIVAL?!" As you finish your climb, you pop your head above the gathering mists and suddenly hear a rush of sound, including Astrid yelling your name. It seems like those mists had sound-isolating properties, in addition to the clinging cold and blinding whiteness. [23:31:57] [@castfromhp] "Oh thank fuck." Astrid scrambles over to help you up and over the cliff. "What took you? I thought you fell or somethin'." [23:32:57] [Percival] "Are you alright? I had a small little fluffy blue bird in the way, sorta round like an articuno, I really didn't want to provoke it and fall all the way back down." [23:33:37] [@castfromhp] The mist behind you begins to rapidly dissipate, and you get a clear view of the frozen lake below in all its majesty. You begin to quickly warm up as well, back to how it normally feels with all your winter gear on. [23:34:36] [@castfromhp] "I'm fine, but you really worried me there y'know. An Articuno? Are you s-" She stops as the fluffy little blue bird flies by, then perches on a nearby tree branch. It coos at you, winks, then flies off into the sky, quickly disappearing. [23:34:51] [@castfromhp] "Well, I'll be damned." [23:35:01] [@castfromhp] Your phone starts going nuts, by the way. [23:35:12] [@castfromhp] You quickly get the following texts: [23:35:14] [@castfromhp] from dann: [Hey, you all ok? I'm with Alice, just got reception. Looks like the storm might be clearing up.] [23:35:25] [@castfromhp] from adrienne: [In Snowberry with Lucian. Where are you?] [23:35:31] [@castfromhp] from lucian: [We made it to the city. If you guys aren't here in a few hours we'll be coming out to find you.] [23:36:44] [Percival] "Thanks for making sure I got up here alright." Percival then starts checking over his own messages. [23:37:55] * Percival texts the three of them [We're at the top of a cliff with Astrid, we'll be heading down to the town as quickly as we can. We got stuck down below in a lake.] [23:38:08] [@castfromhp] As you have a moment to take in your surroundings, you can see a trail of lanterns lighting a path towards the mountainside from here. There's forest all around you and off in the distance you spy what looks like the frozen over ruins of a town. [23:39:15] [Percival] "Now that we're up here, we can see about heading to town proper, the laterns look promising enough for a direction." [23:40:07] [@castfromhp] "Yeah, always a good sign. I hope the others are alright." [23:40:27] [@castfromhp] You get a text from Adrienne: [Good to hear you're okay.] [23:41:39] [@castfromhp] Following the lantern trail, you see signs indicating you're definitely heading the right way to get to Snowberry. They eventually lead you to a set of elevators built into the side of the mountain. [23:42:44] [@castfromhp] "Uh, what'd you want me to do with the Piplup, by the way?" Astrid lets the penguin out of her bag. [23:44:10] [Percival] "Oh, right. Well it depends, we're not in too much danger I believe but, are you fond of them?" [23:45:06] [@castfromhp] She looks down at it, and it cheeps up at her happily. "...I guess it's pretty cute. Whatcha gonna do with that Lapras though?" [23:48:01] [Percival] "Hmm, I can't exactly leave a little one like this alone. Not if the pokemon here are that agressive, I think I'll make sure they're safe with me." [23:48:26] [Percival] "It's a bit worrisome that it's parents weren't around." [23:48:52] [@castfromhp] "Y'know, I don't think that was quite natural there. Especially with that mist rollin' in and them ignoring their friends getting frozen. Wild Pokemon don't normally act so ruthless." [23:50:23] [@castfromhp] "Anyway, if you're holdin' onto that fellow too, guess we're good to go." Astrid pushes the button to call the elevator. [23:50:48] [Percival] "It deserves a more thorough investigation for certain but, I think we'd need to bring all the rest of the gang to check." [23:50:51] [Percival] "Yep, I think so." [23:51:39] [@castfromhp] The elevator arrives, and you step into warm, toasty heaven. It brings you down into an area much like a hotel lobby, surrounded by coffee shops, stalls selling hot chocolate and snacks, and of course a Pokemon Center and other basic amenities. [23:51:51] [@castfromhp] Move back to the normal IC channel now!
