>The brilliant alicorn by your side shifts her gaze away from the setting sun.
>Ancient magenta eyes survey you with curiosity.
>"How do you mean?"
>You turn to meet her face.
>The scant gilded rays still defying the horizon made her coat seem radiant.
"Like, you know, you've been around for a long time."
>You pause, your view slowly rebounding towards the sunset.
"Have you ever just felt bored of... Everything?"
>"Well, being bored is a privilege, Anon," she answers with a small titter.
>You stare blankly ahead.
"I didn't really mean just normal bored. I meant more like, tired, you know?"
>"Tired of what exactly?" She asks quizzically.
"I don't really know," you shrug. "Just tired of the day to day grind."
"Like, just realizing one day that there isn't actually anything that you look forward to anymore."
"And you sort of end up wondering what point is there to keep going, ya'know?"
>The old pony cranes her head closer to your form.
>"Anonymous," she speaks in a soft voice, "Do you feel this way?"
>You look over at her and muster a smile.
"No, no, not really," you say, waving a hand dismissively. "I'm just being silly I guess."
>Turning away from her again, your lips droop back down.
"Well, I don't know actually. Before I came here, I did sort of feel like that, but I thought things would be different here."
"And things are different here," you continue. "But the feeling still creeps in the back of my mind some days."
>As you fall silent, you can practically feel the heat of her scrutiny dwelling upon your guise.
>You daren't meet her gaze.
>A lingering moment later, she as well shifts her focus towards the sunset.
>"Everypony you know is going to die, Anonymous," she states matter-of-factly. "And you will come to die as well."
>You snap your head towards her.
>She simply stares ahead, with a distant look in her eyes.

>"You linger here for but the briefest of moments in the grand scheme of things," she continues.
>"And while this might make you think your moments are of little consequence and of little value, remember that these moments are gifted to you and you alone."
>She turns to meet your eyes as her muzzle blossoms into a warm smile.
>"These moments are yours to feel, to breath, to taste and to live as you choose."
>"Through all the eternity of time there never has been and never will be another set of moments quite like the ones you have at your disposal."
>"Your life is a one-of-a-kind gift. It would be folly to waste such a rarity by being bored."
"But how do you avoid it then?" You ask, feeling like you were just offered naught but platitudes.
"If life should be enjoyed as to not be wasted, then how do you make every day not feel the same?"
"How do you avoid just falling into a routine, where every day is just another set of chores and every tomorrow is just another day you won't remember?"
>The princess doesn't seem hurried in answering.
>Instead, she simply looks over at the last sliver of the departing sun.
>You do the same.
>"Why do you think I took you in to live in my castle?" She asks after a spell of silence.
>"Why do you think I keep such close watch on Twilight Sparkle and her friends in Ponyville?
>"I am an immortal, sovereign ruler; why would I bother with such miniscule, petty endeavours?"
>"Why don't I simply lock myself in my palace and enjoy all the pleasures my wealth and power can bring?"
>Her words hang heavy in the air.

>"Because no pony is an island."
>"From the vast cauldron of life, we're each given our own share of moments to do with as we see fit."
>"But those moments have no meaning unless we share them and use them to enrich somepony else's life."
>"Everypony must have somepony else which they can connect with on some level."
>"Without that, there is only an endless struggle for animalistic gratification, and there can be no purpose."
>"Everypony needs somepony to care for. Somepony that also cares for them as well."
>You turn to look at the pony sitting next to you.
"Like a friend?"
>She looks over at you, meeting your eyes.
>"Quite, like a friend."
>You linger in her eyes for a brief moment, before breaking into a genuine smile. 
"Now I see where Twilight gets her friendship spiels from."
>"Yes, she's a quick learner that one," Celestia retorts, donning a warm smile herself.
>As the moon begins its ascent across the sky, the white alicorn shuffles closer to the green human and drapes one of her wings over his shoulder, shielding him from the chill of the evening.
