Judge Salt & Ice Challenge (Flamechar) This match we had two differing Jojolities: for the Willow Wisps, “Act like entertainers and behave in a manner befitting hypebeasts!”; for Moonbeam Riders, “Act seriously and behave in a manner befitting professionals!” Both teams do so with gusto, formatting their entire strats to do so! The Wisps take on the hypebeast vibes (with added ‘product placement’ dumped on Ange) while the Riders have written a manual for Stand fights while acting in a professional manner. The jojolity plays alone would probably have this at a 7, but how those have been integrated into the Layout and Style of the strategy is notable and leads me to give these an **8**! Judge Cinnamon Challenge (Logic) WW embodies hypebeasts through annoying pop up and overwhelming tactics, but also through the prose itself. I’ve discussed Narrative as measured by not only amount, ludonarrative, but also the voice and word choice itself—creativity in which pushes this Jojolity to a strong [8]. MBR plays the match honestly, which is in keeping with the “professionalism” Jojolity, but does raise the specter of the counterfactual—would this be a different strat with a different Jojolity. The framing of the strat as an instructional video does help provide framing that says otherwise, but there’s an unevenness in tone that makes it harder for me to see the stated thesis. While the flavor text focuses on Ange’s teaching of professionalism as an ideal of protection and leadership to Texas, the strat’s tone and prose is more akin to a kitzy corporate instructional video—two framings that work well on their own but don’t quite cohere. This meshing aside, while I wasn’t surprised by Jojolity plays, the latter is eminently integrated well enough to a strong [7]. Judge Planking (CPU) Starting with the Wisps again, and I think this is a self evidently great Jojolity. There’s a lot of intelligence that goes into making it seem like you don’t care at all, and the work for getting across the sleazy influencer vibes are great, with every section of your strategy including it and acting as a sort of in-your-face blast of horseshit. I think that this is worth a high 8/10 on face; great work here! As for Moonbeam Riders, I think that normally, what I would probably give is an 8. What’s there is good, and very well integrated. I agree with Logic’s point that the tone can be a bit odd, with the hokey tone of the integrated narrative clashing somewhat with Angelino’s serious dint. I don’t really have as much of an issue with it; both sides of these cohere to me. But, fuck it, Tienament 7 lives and I’ll give this a low 9/10. I don’t have much of an issue with the coherence, and that’s for a particular reason. The moment to moment writing, the word choice all landed for me. I think that for me, the devil really is in the details; I had a lot of fun with the language you chose. There’s a lot of very small choices that gave the immediate impression that I really liked what you guys had, and gets you just, just over the line in terms of the integration you had. Again, great work here.
