Syntax Highlighting
Hello Jwle7, My name is Carca and I'll be reviewing your plot today! We rate plots based on three very important aspects: Terrain, Structures (Buildings), and Organics. If your plot has this message attached to it, it means your plot is not yet up to our standards and needs improved before it can be promoted. Below is what we expect, and pictures to help you understand what we need to see! Review: Off to a good start! However, the terrain is a bit rough and needs some smoothing. Also, the leaves on the trees are a bit too square and need to be smoothed and air added in them to space them out. Also, the house needs more detail, depth, and block variety. Read below for more advice. Please read below for advice and reference images on what we expect. Thanks. The three categories your plot is rated on are as follows: Terrain: Consists of all the landscape in the plot, such as hills, mountains, caves, etc. What we expect in this category is a high level of skill in the art of terraforming. To display this we like to see very little to no flat space, and no empty space. Mixing more than just grass/stone into your landscape will also improve the terrain overall, as well make it with varied levels of height and add features such as caves, rocks, rivers, mountains, cliffs, hills, etc. Terrain is very fun to make, in my opinion. To make nice terrain, outline where you want your hills, valleys, ponds, rivers, etc. I use stone to outline hills/mountains and blue wool to show bodies of water. Next, you want to start building on your stone outlines, but make sure you do not build more than one or two blocks in any given direction, or it will create a flat and boring wall. As you build up, make sure to build back and forward as needed, depending on if you're building a hill or cliff. Once your hill is done (should be a boring stone hill right now), you can now add grass. Instead of replace the top layer of stone with grass, replace the top two layers of stone with dirt, then place the grass ON the dirt, to make it look more natural. Next, replace the blue wool with water, making waterfalls as needed. Add lilly pads to the water, add sand around the water (usually I do 1-3 layers of sand out), then add things like sugar cane to the sand. Next you want to add any caves, rocks, or other landscape features you want to add. Next, add your structures, and lastly add your trees and foliage. Structure: The second standard of building is structure, which just means anything man-made such as buildings. Such as homes, windmills, farms, etc. We like to see high quality structures. Such as houses with high depth and detail while using a nice mixture of multiple different blocks, instead of just one kind. To make a good structure, you need to plan it. Build the buildings layout, starting with the exterior walls, make sure the building has a unique shape, no squares. Next build up a few layers and fill in the floors. Next, add the windows, chimneys, porches, bay windows, doors, and the roof. Now, you want to add details, which you can do by adding things such as gardens, window shades, window flowers, trim, overhangs, etc. Last, you want to play with the depth by moving parts of the walls in while moving other parts out. Example: See how it looks if you make the windows stick out from the wall by 1 block, or in by 1 block. Add some more curves and corners so it's not flat. Keep, you want to use a large variety of blocks, but alos ones that mix well together. So don't build with just wood, just stone, or just wool. You want to try and mix them all together for more appeal. Organics: Our third and final standard is organics, which refers to things like trees, plants, statues, fountains, etc. The main thing we look for in this category is your ability to make non-generic, custom trees. They don't have to be spectacular, but they must be natural looking. Also, other things that fall into this category are hand-built flowers, animals, rocks, water, and anything else that is made by nature. We not only want custom trees, we require them, so make sure you have at least 2, preferably more, nice custom trees. To make a custom tree, start by making basically a stick of logs. Make sure it is NOT perfectly straight, it needs to curve. Then make it thicker around the base, to resemble roots. Next, add branches the same size as the middle of the tree, then add smaller branches to those branches. Last, add the leaves, but make sure the leaves have no pattern, trees should not look artificial. Examples of what we expect: http://imgur.com/a/FDLHZ At this time your plot is rejected. Just fix some of the issues and resubmit! Keep up the good work! You have 3 hours before you can re-submit your plot, use your time wisely! Good luck! Carca
