- Anna: [smile] Kana! How’s my favourite boy in the world doing today?
- Kana: [smile] Morning, Mama! I’m just working on a project?
- Anna: What kind of project?
- Kana: Well~, see these pretty rocks I found? There’s lots and lots of them at the bottom of a stream nearby.
- Kana: [smile, closed eyes] I’ve been boring holes in them, and I’m gonna sell them as jewelry!
- Anna: [smile] That’s my little entrepreneur!
- Anna: What kinda prices are you thinking?
- Kana: I hadn’t thought of that yet…
- Anna: Kana, Kana, Kana! The very first thing you do when you start out on a venture is price your work!
- Anna: Now, how long have you been working on this?
- Kana: Um… I guess it took me a couple hours to gather up all the stones, and I’ve been doing this since lunch, so…
- Kana: [smile, closed eyes] Maybe a slice of cake each!
- Anna: Absolutely not!
- Kana: [sad] Aww, but- I’ll eat it after dinner, promise!
- Anna: No, no, it’s nothing like that! Eat your cake whenever!
- Anna: [frown] You’re underpricing yourself!
- Anna: You’re putting in a lot of work for these. You have to price them properly, and that means for actual money!
- Kana: But I like cake…
- Anna: What’s your favourite kind?
- Kana: [surprised] That’s a deep question.
- Kana: [smile] Um, chocolate!
- Anna: Aaand what’s your least favourite kind?
- Kana: [frown] Coffee cake. Gross!
- Anna: Well, how would you feel if you sold your last piece of jewelry for a coffee cake, and then someone came along with a nice slice of chocolate cake?
- Kana: [upset] That’d be awful!
- Anna: Exactly! But if you exchanged it for gold, you could go and choose between coffee and chocolate cake!
- Kana: [smile] Right. Right! Okay!
- Kana: Thanks, Mama! You’ve helped a whole bunch!
- Anna: No problem, kiddo! You just let me know when you’re ready for your next economics lesson.

- Anna: Hey there, Kana! How’s the jewellery stall coming?
- Kana: [smile, closed eyes] It’s going great! Look, look, I already sold almost all of them!
- Anna: [surprised] Wow, really? But you’ve only been at it a couple of hours!
- Kana: I know! Some nice lady came and bought up almost all my stock!
- Kana: She must have lots and lots of friends to give them to.
- Anna: [neutral] How much are you selling them for?
- Kana: [smile, closed eyes] One gold each! Nice and simple!
- Anna: [surprised] Only one gold? That’s pretty cheap…
- Kana: Every six I sell is enough for a whole cake!
- Anna: [sweat] Wow, that’s gonna be a lot of cake. Make sure you ask me or Mama before you eat any, okay?
- Kana: Of course! But, um… could you go buy one for me? Pretty please? Here’s the money!
- Anna: Sure thing. Coffee flavoured, right?
- Kana: [frown] Yuck! Noooo!
- Anna: [smile, closed eyes] Heehee!
- [Kana leaves]
- Anna: (He’s really growing up, putting together a project like this all by himself.)
- Anna: (He’s underpricing himself, though…)
- Anna: [frown] Huh?
- Villager girl: Necklaces! Get your traveler’s necklaces here!
- Villager: Hi there, ma’am! Would you like to buy a traveller’s necklace? Guaranteed to keep you safe from misfortune on the road!
- Anna: [frown] …How much?
- Villager: It’s a steal! Only 50 gold apiece!
- Anna: [frown] Fifty- are you kidding?!
- Anna: [smile, closed eyes] Honestly, what an amateur!
- Villager: Huh?
- Anna: Let me guess, you bought these all up from some cute kid, right? Now you’re selling ‘em for a massive markup?
- Villager: [frown] Er-
- Anna: I mean, I admire the entrepreneurial spirit and all, but there’s two problems with your plan.
- Anna: First of all, your branding is all over the place! ‘Misfortune on the road’ makes it sound like you’re threatening me.
- Villager: O…kay-
- Anna: And second of all, that’s my son you bought them from wholesale. So, I propose a deal. I’ll buy them back off you at the price you paid him.
- Villager: [frown] Um, no thanks. These dumb rocks have been selling like hotcakes.
- Anna: [frown] Really? You sure?
- Villager: [smirk] Absolutely.
- Anna: [smile] Okay. The Anna Consortium will be in touch.
- [Anna leaves]
- Villager: What a weirdo.
- Villager: [worried] Wait, did she say ‘Anna’?
- A-support
- Anna: -so that’s why you’ve gotta sell them for at least 30 gold apiece!
- Anna: Remember, they’re not just paying for the necklace – they’re paying for the time you put into it!
- Kana: [surprised] I guess so. But what would I even do with all that money?
- Anna: [smile, closed eyes] Oh, I can teach you a LOT about shopping.
- Villager: [upset] Hey! Little boy!
- Kana: [surprised] Huh?
- Villager: Here, take your necklaces back! Please! Just call them off!
- Kana: [confused] …What?
- Anna: [smile] I’ll handle this. Ahem.
- Anna: I take it the Consortium has been in touch?
- Villager: Yes! I quit! I’ll never work in this town again!
- Anna: [smile, closed eyes] Or any other town in a fifty-mile radius.
- Villager: Okay, okay! Just please, lift the embargoes!
- Anna: [smile] Of course.
- Kana: [frown] Hey, wait – you bought my necklaces, right? Why are you giving them back?
- Anna: [frown] Well, she tried to do what we call a mark-up.
- Anna: She bought your necklaces and then tried to resell them at a higher rate.
- Anna: [frown] (It’s good business sense, but honestly, you don’t do it two streets away from the manufacturer!)
- Anna: [smile, closed eyes] But she’s learnt her lesson now. Right?
- Villager: Yes! Absolutely!
- Kana: [sad] But- I don’t care about money. I just wanted enough to buy cakes for everyone.
- Kana: Miss, you should have these back.
- Villager: [surprised] Huh?
- Anna: [surprised] Kana-
- Kana: [smile] You’re doing something important with the money, right?
- Villager: W-well, yeah, I mean, food doesn’t come cheap, and my mother’s job doesn’t make ends meet for our family…
- Anna: [frown] (Great, a sob story.)
- Kana: [smile] Please, take these back. I’m glad you like them enough to wanna sell them!
- Villager: [surprised] You’re sure you don’t mind, kid?
- Kana: [smile] Totally sure! And Mama’s gonna call her family off, right, Mama?
- Anna: [pout, sweat] …Right. Though if I catch even a whiff of dishonesty-
- Kana: [smile, closed eyes] Thank you, Mama.
- Villager: I… guess I’ll take these back to my stall, then?
- Kana: Can I come with you? I wanna see what a proper stallholder does!
- Villager: [sweat] Sure, as long as it’s okay with your mother.
- Anna: [smile, closed eyes] Oh, I’ll be checking in on you, don’t worry!
- Kana: [smile] Yay! See you later, Mama!
- Kana: Oh, I’m Kana, by the way! You already met my Mama Anna, and my other Mama Avatar is back at our camp…
- [Kana and Villager disappear]
- Anna: [smile] ..That kid’s gonna turn me soft yet.
