✧ −background; born in a bustling tokyo hospital, nanase didn't even stay there for a day before her mother, misaki, carted the two of them off to the outskirts of yokohama where she lived. for the majority of her childhood, they lived in a small and "cozy" (although a better term would be cramped) apartment, sharing the living room and a bedroom between the two of them. nana didn't grow up with much other than her mothers love, but she never felt like she needed anything more; aside from being her mother, misaki was also her best friend and deepest, most trusted confidant. between them, any talk about nana's father was skirted around -- all she knew was that he wasn't the nicest man to exist, and that she would be worse off with him than without. because the topic was so sensitive, she didn't question much, and was for the most part okay living without a father figure in her life. nana lead a happy childhood until one day, when she was only eleven years old, her mother was diagnosed with cancer. she had seen the subtle signs of deterioration in her health, but refused to believe it was because she was sick. even after it was confirmed by professionals, nanase continued to deny the fact that her mother was going to eventually die. a year later, and her mother passed away. unable to accept it, she stayed at the hospital days after -- the hospital staff didn't say much to her because she had practically lived there the whole time misaki was there. but, eventually they couldn't keep her there, and she was moved to a nearby orphanage. the orphanage was overcrowded already, but they tried their best to provide for nana. she stayed there for three months, where she fell into a sort of select muteness ("from the shock of losing such an important person" the doctors said) and ignored everyone. nobody wanted to adopt a child who didn't talk, so she rotted away in her room, until even the orphanage got fed up with her and ended up sending her to the laboratory -- where she completely changed.

YOUNG FOREVER | PERSONALITY

✧ −personality; it's in human nature to assume that quiet equals soft and soft equals meek and submissive. however, quite the opposite is true, and hajime nanase is the best example of that. she never speaks, and can always be found standing towards the back whenever in a group of people. not necessarily shy, nana just prefers to not be noticed; her desire is only amplified by her soft and quiet voice that doesn't carry much. surrounding her is a type of tranquil similar to that of the calm before a storm -- soothing yet sneaky, it creeps up on you, all the while giving you a strange feeling you can't place. but what intimidates people the most about her is not her adorable baby face, or her wide and innocent eyes -- its her silence. people don't understand how she can be so powerful, with the most fluid and quick instincts and a steely resolve, all the while looking like a literal angel. what frightens people even more is that her smile, one of her most beautiful features, can incite even more fear within their hearts. when she's around her friends, nanase doesn't let her guard down completely, but does manage to loosen up and become more easygoing and lighthearted around them. she doesn't exactly open up, because she still opts not to speak much, but its an improvement from how she would act if they were complete strangers. additionally, nana has the best aegyo out of them all -- and she isn't afraid to use it. when she wants to, she can be practically irresistible because of her cute face, and she's not exactly the type to pass up an opportunity to get something she wants. she can be a bit manipulative and use her adorable looks to get things (like food or books) out of those close to her, and usually they don't realize it because they're too distracted by her, plus they honestly don't expect her to do that so blatantly. she might come off as the shyest when you first meet her, but once she opens up or takes a liking to you, she becomes the most mischievous out of all of the girls.

» him -- so at first, he didn't even notice her there because she was at the back of the group and she was so quiet. then, he took notice of her because of how tall she was (compared to the other girls.) he thought she was adorable, but felt something nagging in the back of his mind, telling him there was something about her he shouldn't be quick to trust.
» her -- out of all the boys, she noticed him with his boxy smile and contagious laugh first. she thought he was really handsome, and ironically was a bit intimidated by his outgoing personality; she told herself she would avoid him, but thaT obviously didn't work.
