If I disagree with the majority on an issue and voice that opinion, I'm against the mob, and I can simultaneously agree with that same mob on a plethora of other issues. Disagreement isn't fundamentally tied to the number of voices involved.
It's not at all a contradiction to say in one statement that X is commonplace/popular, and be against the current, and in the next say something that goes with what is.
