- I rejiggered some old greentexts I had stashed safely up my ass instead of doing anything I should be doing. Because reasons.

- This was it.
- End of the line.
- He was gut-shot. He was alone. He too weak to even hold himself up, the damp tree against his back now the only thing keeping him upright. In between bursts of gunfire and the sickeningly slick sound of bayonets plunging into flesh, he could hear voices. They weren’t speaking English. He was done for. This little patch of humid greenery, countless miles from home, in a country he couldn’t even find on a map, would be his final resting place.
- You could have dodged this, you dumb bastard. Could have stayed in school, could have been good enough at something other than filling a pair of boots to land any other role than rifle grunt, but no, you had to be good for nothing other than cannon fodder to feed into the jungle, didn’t you?
- He heard movement somewhere in the undergrowth before him and reached for his weapon. Not that it would do him any good. He’d exhausted his ammunition hours ago, and there was no longer any chance of him using his bayonet. The best he could hope for here was buying himself a scant few seconds of extra time in this mortal coil by spooking the enemy with his jam-happy empty rifle.
- In lieu of an enemy trooper, a deer emerged from the foliage. A strange sight, the unceasing roil of battle should have driven it off a long time ago, yet it seemed calm, positively serene. His head lolled for a moment as he found himself without enough blood to remain conscious.
- When he raised his head again, the deer was gone.
- In their place stood a tall, thin man, sharply dressed all in red and black, grinning like a jack-o-lantern.

- Neat little story, I think it somewhat overstates Alastor's abilities but it would not be the first
- Reminds me somewhat of this old comic I found

- >Plot twist
- >Joking about what they'd look like in Hell while the voodoo spirits were listening is what made them look like that in the first place
