The original Lain continued to make more copies, sending them up into the air one by one. In the end, there were more than a hundred of them. Seeing so many beautiful women clad in the same red dress floating in the sky was quite a spectacle.

“Excuse me, but if you plan on attacking the town, could you not just use a magical attack of some sort?” Euphemia asked. She must have thought the plan was rather boorish.

“Unfortunately, no. I’m not all that skilled with magic, after all. Simply throwing them into the town will be more effective.”

This was a plan that Lain was uniquely capable of. Her flying speed easily broke the sound barrier — no ordinary person could see it coming. With a full-power kamikaze charge, they would slam the overwhelming strength she possessed as a vampire straight into Hanabusa. Even without a clear objective, the shockwave of the attacks would be enough to destroy the town.

“Get down!”

Grabbing Tomochika, Yogiri threw her to the ground to avoid the lines of killing intent. Seeing them, Ryouta hurriedly dropped to the ground as well.

A moment later, something passed by overhead and screams filled the air as the people gathered around them cried out in their final moments. The wall of civilians that had trapped them in the square was destroyed. All that remained was a scattering of broken, shattered bodies.

“Wh-What was that? Was it an attack from that Darkness thing?!”

“No, I killed it,” Yogiri said, pointing at the creature. The already hazy form of the giant was growing fainter, as if it were a natural fog now dissipating.

“What? So something else attacked us?!”

“Yeah. It seems like they tried to use the Darkness to hide their killing intent.”

Whatever it was had punched through the buildings and crashed into the ground, creating a shockwave that had destroyed everything around it. Still more attacks were raining from the sky, seemingly intent on wiping out the entire town. An onslaught of attacks at a speed the eye couldn’t follow.
