- Alright! Let's begin this interview then
- So, you have been moderator in 2015. You left, took a 3 years break, then joined CCIA in April and left a few weeks ago. Is that correct?
- Xelnagahunter
- I was also CCIAA prior to my break from the game.
- Goret
- You were CCIA and a mod at the same time?
- Xelnagahunter
- No, I was mod for a few months and quit because I didn't feel I knew enough about the game at the time. I joined CCIAA (Duty Officers at the time) and was with that team until my interest in playing dwindled.
- Goret
- I am curious about this huge break that lasted 3 years. You think there is a possibility it happen again? Do you think you could lose your interest in the game once more?
- Xelnagahunter
- Is it possible? Yes. But right now I'm invested. The break was more me jaunting around a few houses and becoming interested in other activities. When I was on that decline, I resigned from my roles in proper fashion though, I didn't leave anyone hanging regarding it. I also note that when I got interested again I was drawn instantly to the same server and community, mostly because I don't know any other servers.
- In short, it's always possible. Games are prone to becoming stale. But I don't think 3 years will be the gap next time, likely much shorter unless something drastic happens in my life.
- And I don't foresee it any time soon.
- Goret
- I'm satisfied with this answer. When a staff member feel a burn out coming up, they can take a break its not a problem.
- Xelnagahunter
- mhm.
- Goret
- Moving to the next question--- What do you think of the difference between how CCIA works, and moderation works? Are you aware of the possibility that you might face the same obstacles in the moderation team?
- Xelnagahunter
- There is a major difference, CCIAA deals with edge line cases where interpretations matters a LOT. I'm not saying there isn't a level of interpretation intended in some of our rules, but the majority of it is cut and dry. You're also dealing with a player directly, not a character. The obstacles of the CCIA are largely different, in my opinion as a person who has served on both teams prior.
- Goret
- Okay! Let's move on. You might need to know that since you departure all these years ago, a lot of stuff changed in moderation. So if you get a trial, we expect you to get yourself updated on anything you're not sure about with other staff members, or by looking out yourself. Alright?
- Xelnagahunter
- Sure thing!
- Goret
- Great. Questions done, moving out for the situations now. As it has been quite some time, I'll give you the list.
- Let me turn on my computer real quick. My list is here lmao.
- Xelnagahunter
- No worries.
- Goret
- We have these commands:
- msay - This tool permit you to speak with the others staff members, aka: mods, admins, headmins, and headdevs.
- aghost - If you are playing, this allow you to ghost out of your character to look around. You'll be seen standing, and the SSD message will be available for the others. This also permit you to see an airlock status or defuse a fuel tank by clicking on it. Aghost again to enter back your body.
- dsay - When playing, you can speak in dchat. It'll show your rank, and not your character name.
- ahelp - Literally the thing players have, but this time you're the one that gives them. Don't forget to "TAKE" it.
- Now, for the tools, you have the ability to:
- 1. Kick players.
- 2. Wind players.
- 3. Ban and jobban players. Trials cannot permaban.
- 4. Apply notes to someone's records. We use that to keep track on what someone has done, if anything happened. You don't need to note someone if what they did was completely right.
- 5. Apply warnings. Its a note, but actually visible
- to them.
- 6. Access attack logs, or anything related to player interactions.
- Xelnagahunter
- okay.
- Goret
- Do you have any questions on these before we start?
- Xelnagahunter
- nope/
- Goret
- Situation 1. After a round being voted merc, Jake Bacon goes to cargo to order bullpup weapons. What do you do?
- We are not even ten minutes into the round.
- Xelnagahunter
- I would hit him with an admin PM "Hey buddy, got a moment?"
- Goret
- He would respond not really aggressively. "wassup?"
- Xelnagahunter
- I'd prceed to plainly ask why he ordered the bullpups.
- Goret
- "because mercs are coming"
- Xelnagahunter
- At this point it would be prudent to remind him that we are an HRP server and ask if his character had any indication of the mercs whatsoever.
- I'd probably also start checking notes.
- Also account age if trials can.
- Goret
- There's no note expect one, about metagaming. A few days before, he got bwoinked for saying "Syndicate is here!" on comms. His account is not even a week old.
- As for his answer, he says that the gamemode is merc, so it is normal for him to go buy weapons.
- Xelnagahunter
- I'd take a moment to inform him that it's called metagaming to act on knowledge that his character doesn't have and tell him he should forget about the bullpup order. If he doesn't seem to understand metagaming I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and try to explain it to him briefly.
- Goret
- He act as he didn't understand the concept of metagaming, which is fair for a new player. He doesn't seem to be really aware of the concept of HRP, and he's going along with you. At the same time you're speaking to him, he cancels his order.
- Xelnagahunter
- I'll inform him that all of this information is covered in our rules and to prevent further interruptions like this he should read them pretty closely. I also tell him that if he sin't sure about something he can always ask staff via adminhelps/F1. I'd leave a note saying I went over the concepts with him again and further issues should result in a warning for escalation as he had it explained.
- Goret
- Sounds good for me. Moving out to another situation less... Normal.
- Adolf Hitler, Assistant, comes out of cryostorage. He goes around, with a red armband and scream to gas people. What do you do?
- Two other staffs are on at the same time.
- Xelnagahunter
- This is drastic so he gets a straight wind and an AdminPM asking him what he's doing and if he has read our server rules. While he replies, I'm pulling up notes and account age as would be normal for me.
- Goret
- His account was created 0 days ago. No notes.
- As you winds him, he just go "the hell you're doing bro"
- Xelnagahunter
- I ask again if he has read our server rules in admin PM, I also tell him to click my name to reply, if his comment was in (L)OOC and not a PM already.
- Goret
- He respond directly saying "I'm new here".
- Xelnagahunter
- I inform him that he is breaking several server rules with his character and actions so far.
- Goret
- He seem very aggressive, saying that he's just here to gas people.
- Xelnagahunter
- I give him one more chance, informing him of the rules he is breaking directly and telling him that failure to hold to our rules will result in removal form the server. I'd also probably ask what sort of ban duration is appropriate from a first offender that is this egregious in Msay as if he doesn't want to comply I feel like he's just here to troll. MY assumption however would be 3 days or a week if I were to have to ban him and not another staff member.
- Goret
- "Fuck you" is the only thing they say and DC.
- As for the bans, it really depends. In that case, the other mod tells you to perma ban him. He can do it for you as trials cannot do it.
- Xelnagahunter
- That is something I'd agree to.
- Goret
- As for the bans, it really depends as I said. I tend to go from a few days, to a week, to a perma.
- Its up to the moderator's discretion.
- Xelnagahunter
- That's normal, but something egregious like that stands out as an obvious troll who probably should be perma'd.
- Goret
- If you see someone named Adolf Hitler, its probably going to be perma ban in most cases, yep.
- Xelnagahunter
- lol
- Goret
- Moving out?
- Xelnagahunter
- Yeah. I'm satisfied with the result of that.
- Goret
- Okay.
- At the end of a round, you see "That's bullshit, I'll destroy them the next time I'm antag". The round after, this person become antag, and decide to kill them in the first ten minutes. What do you do?
- Xelnagahunter
- admin PM the usual "Hey, got a minute" and do the notes and age thing.
- Goret
- The account isn't old. There's some notes and warnings about ganking, and a ban for powergaming.
- They respond to you simply with a "what".
- Xelnagahunter
- Before I go any further, did I witness this?
- or was it ahelped?
- Goret
- Forgot to mention that, sorry. Yes, the guy that got killed ahelped.
- Xelnagahunter
- If gank was specifically mentioned I'd ask the offender why he killed the person without RP buildup.
- Goret
- He's just telling you that its in their objectives.
- Xelnagahunter
- I remind him that our server is HRP and has rules for escalation.
- Goret
- "I don't care, I'm having a revenge."
- Xelnagahunter
- I remind him that we have rules regarding OOC being taken IC as well, though in all honesty the act istelf wasn't so bad, but just the lack of RP an escalation.
- Goret
- At this point, he goes wild saying that its unfair, and that he was ganked last round so he ganked him this round.
- Xelnagahunter
- I tell him that this isn't his first offense for ganking on out server and that he should have ahelped the issue last round or taken the time to make a player complaint if staff were unable to help for any reason whatever in the round.
- Goret
- As an escalation of his past offenses, what do you suggest?
- Xelnagahunter
- It's gank and he has warnings for it. After getting him to understand what he did wrong I'd inform him that I'd have to apply a 3 day ban from the server and do so.
- Goret
- He threaten you with a staff complaint.
- Saying that it is bullshit.
- Xelnagahunter
- I tell him he's welcome to do so if he feels I am wrong, it's time to finalize it and do it though.
- Goret
- snaps
- Alright! Here we go for the final question.
- One merc decide to go alone and maxcap security. 3/4 of the security team is killed, and you recieve alot of ahelps at the same time. What do you do?
- Xelnagahunter
-
- Goret
- There is two other staff members on. But they seem a bit slow to take them.
- Xelnagahunter
- I physically ask for help in msay but otherwise move to the standard on the merc in question, age/notes. (Also I'm not gonna lie that I'm still vague on a lot of the terms in our game/server. I think Maxcap is a type of explosion? Usually a maximum capacity APC exploding that I'm aware of.)
- Goret
- https://i.imgur.com/63FuQxB.png
- That is a maxcap.
- Xelnagahunter
- kk
- Goret
- So, the merc isn't new. He's quite used to the server, and has a few notes of poor antag play, and even validhunting as a sec officer. The warnings he has put him on the verge of the ban.
- The other staff take the tickets, saying that its "being handled".
- Xelnagahunter
- admin pm the normal greeting and ask why he did that.
- Goret
- He said that he wanted to maxcap to not have to deal with them.
- Xelnagahunter
- I inform him that our server has rules regarding escalation and that he has a habit of this kind of behavior already.
- Goret
- "The fuck is wrong with you people? Security is a threat so its a valid escalation."
- Xelnagahunter
- I inform him of our rules for the antags and the fact that server rules against gank and regarding escalation are there to keep everyone having fun, which is a goal of the antag, not just "winning". This would have been fine were there some sort of buildup or threats to get to that point.
- Goret
- He just go "whatever, I'll watch out next time." As he speaks, he's making his way to the Supermatter. His team is at the other edge of the station, trying to stealth.
- Xelnagahunter
- It's time to wind him, preferably some place that's not a hallway, but otherwise I inform him that now that he understands, there has to be a consequence, I inform him that I will be banning him, why, and for how long (3days) before doing so.
- Goret
- Good enough for me.
- Alright, I guess we are done?
- Xelnagahunter
- If you are I am.
- Goret
- If you could change one thing about the server, what would you change?
- Xelnagahunter
- I'm not much in the mindset that anything needs changing that isn't code stuff.
- Goret
- Okay. Anything else to add?
- Xelnagahunter
- I don't think so.
- Goret
- Alright! So, this interview will be posted on the forum. No problems with that?
- Xelnagahunter
- Not at all.
