  10. Dear Diane,
  11. I have a situation that I want to make you aware of that occurred when my daughter applied for a job at the Mountain City store. My daughter, Maesen Green, has always looked forward to and planned to work for your Mcdonalds in Mountain City. She became interested in it when I worked there several years ago and was excited that she could apply when she turned 15. So in April she applied right after her birthday. She recieved a call from Emma, the General Manager, and was asked to come in for an interview. During the interview, Emma asked her if she was 16 or 17 and Maesen replied that she was 15. Emma explained the work that she could do as a 15 year old and told her she would contact her with her orientation schedule. Several days later, Maesen was given an orientation packet with paperwork for her to fill out and papers, items she would need to bring with her. She was scheduled to do orientation on a Wednesday evening from 4-8pm. We realized there was a problem with obtaining a photo id here in Mountain City and would need to go to Elizabethton to get it. Maesen called and explained the dilemma to the manager who told her to go ahead and get the ID then call and they would reschedule her orientation. We were experiencing car problems and had to make special arrangements through a friend to get to Elizabethton to get the ID but we made it a priority to get it within 2 days of calling. Maesen called the store to tell the manager that she had the ID and to find out when she could come in for orientation. Trish told her to come in today, Monday, June 8 but did not say what time to come. Maesen called to learn what time she needed to come in several days ago and was told to come in from 4-8pm. This morning, I received a text message from an employee friend that said we needed to call and talk to the manager because no one seemed to know that Maesen was supposed to come in tonight. Maesen called immediately to speak with the manager about it. The manager, Emma, commented that she was too busy to talk to her at that time and asked her to call back "in 30 mins." Maesen called her back after 30 mins and Emma said she could not talk to her then and to call back after 2pm. We had to go into town to pick up her sister from work so we stopped by to find out from Emma when Maesen could start working. Emma said that that during the time she interviewed Maesen they were doing two orientations a week but recently, they were only doing one a week since they had a full crew. She then told me that she was having a problem finding a time that Maesen could come in for orientation since as a 15 year old, she was not allowed to work past 7:00 pm. I told her that I had looked into the child labor laws for Tennessee and what it said but she told me Mcdonalds policy about this is different. I understand that. She told me that she did not see a time that she could get Maesen into orientation because she had three managers going on vacation so she would talk to her supervisor and call us on Wednesday. It is frustrating to us because we have been doing all we can to get Maesen's requirements in order for her to start work yet Maesen had to call numerous times to find out when she was to come in. Additionally, the managers that spoke to her were often vague and dismissive when she called saying things like "Can you come by right now?" and telling her to come in but not giving her a time to be there. During my conversation with Emma today, I admit I became frustrated with the situation because she came across to me as rude. She commented to me that she didn't "officially hire" Maesen and that because Maesen missed her original orientation, she usually wouldn't hire her anyway. I explained to her that Maesen did call to let them know about the hardship with the ID and was told "it was okay and to get the ID and call us when you have it then we will reschedule the orientation." If there was an issue with hiring Maesen because of having to postpone her orientation, then the manager should have said they just couldn't hire her and I wouldn't have made special arrangements to get her ID in Elizabethton. Because of all the run around and misinformation in the process of Maesen just trying to work for McDonalds, we just feel frustrated. I told Emma I would contact you about this. I don't want Maesen to work for McDonalds now. I wanted her first work experience to be a positive one and this has been very disappointing. I worked for you in the past and it was a good experience for me so I was confident that Maesen would be treated well there. Because of the circumstances and interactions with the manager, I don't think that would be the case. Please review hiring procedures with your store's managers so that this type of incident doesn't happen again to someone else.
  12. Sincerely,
  13. Tracy Green
