  1. Throughout the story of Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows the relationship between Ralph and Jack in many different ways, by describing their relationship, to say at first they were friends and then they were enemies. Jack is the third main character in the book. He is one of the boys who is against Ralph’s way of leadership, and later wants to kill Ralph and almost succeeds. Because Jack has a different approach to leadership Jack starts to hold a grudge against him. When they first met they became friends, and kicked piggy out of their conversation, and ignored him. Ralph later realized that Piggy can help them solve their problems if they let him speak. So Ralph let him speak and Ralph was their leader, but somehow Jack also had authority and a different idea of how to lead.
  2. Originally Jack and Ralph were best mates, but later their opinions and beliefs caused friction in their relationship. Ralph had an idea of including everyone, or an idea of a Democracy, while Jack, had an idea of a Dictatorship. Usually, people with different political views might first be friends, but later their relationship will fall apart, and they will be against each other, and do anything by any means necessary to destroy their opponents which in this case are Ralph versus Jack. Eventually, Jack leaves Ralph for various reasons. There are a couple of reasons for this, but mostly Jack leaves because he wants to be the one in charge, and he wants to rule in his own way. He wants to be like a king or a dictator. It even states at one point in the book that he says that one part of the island is for Ralph’s tribe and the other is for Jack’s tribe. It took Jack quite a long time to make his tribe work out properly. At first, he left by himself and hoped people would join, but day by day he asked people if they wanted to join his tribe, and hunt for pigs, and some people came to his tribe and made it work out. Although at one point he had to capture and kidnap people and force them to join his tribe so they could join the hunt for Ralph. Ralph hates Jack and vice versa. Firstly Ralph was chosen to be chief and then Jack decides to be another Dictator while Ralph is still chief. Then Jack starts his hunts for Ralph.

  4. In the beginning, it took Jack a lot of effort to make his tribe actually work, but later he just captured people and forced them to be in his tribe or else he would’ve killed them. It’s kind of hard to believe that people would go to such lengths to ensure that someone they hate is dead. And if Jack is disobeyed he will also just hurt or kill his tribemates. Jack created a government in his tribe. It was a Dictatorship. He and Roger were in charge, and if you disobeyed them then you get hurt, or worse. Jack and Roger didn’t care about killing people, they were ok with it. If there is one thing Jack likes it is to hunt. Hunting is one of the differences between Ralph and Jack’s tribe. In Ralph’s tribe, they only eat the fruit, and they don’t hunt, while in Jack’s tribe they feast every day because they hunt pigs during the day and bring them back to eat. Jack thinks that you will be weak if you only eat fruit. He thinks that real men have to eat meat to be strong.
  5. Jack is a very strict leader and if he wants things to be done, they will be done. Jack wants his tribe to be the only one, so he does everything in his power, if not more to destroy the other tribe as quickly and effectively as possible. Eventually strong, bad rulers are always stopped, and in this case, Ralph escapes Jack and tells the navy officer what's going on and Jack doesn’t get the chance to kill him. If that navy officer hadn’t of been there, Ralph would’ve died a painful death, if not now then later. The relationship between Ralph and Jack clearly isn’t a good one, but at least it has been stopped, and will no longer continue.
