  1. Here are my thoughts on some of the other butterfly effects of ryan's timeline:
  2. - As I mentioned, Casey Mears remains in Busch in 2003. He spends 2003 and 2004 in Busch before in 2005 moving up to Cup driving the #77 Penske-Jasper car. Or maybe he does in 2004 instead of Brendan Gaughan.
  3. - Mike Bliss drives the #20 in 2003 and 2004, then Greg Biffle takes it over in 2005. Since JGR's 2003 and 2004 aren't as strong, they don't expand to three cars yet, so the 2005 lineup is Labonte in the #18 and Biffle in the #20. Bliss goes to Haas CNC in 2005, as he did in reality. Not sure where Jason Leffler would end up in this scenario, or what happens with the #16.
  4. - In 2005 and maybe 2004 as well, J.J. Yeley runs a few races for Ganassi in the #39, their R&D car.
  5. - In 2006 Labonte goes to RPM as he did in reality. Denny Hamlin takes the #18. The Hamlin-Biffle lineup puts Gibbs back on top after a few years sorta treading water.
  6. - Not sure what happens with Montoya for 2007. It seems unlikely that they'd sack Yeley or Sorenson after just one season considering they didn't do that for Stremme. My theory is either Ganassi expands to a four-car team for 2007, or Montoya spends an extra year in Busch.
  7. - For 2008, JGR expands to a three-car team with Kyle Busch driving the third car, the #11. J.J. Yeley is out at Ganassi and goes to Hall of Fame Racing, like he did in real life. With Juan Pablo Montoya driving the #40 in Cup, Dario Franchitti runs the Nationwide Series for Ganassi.
  8. - In the 2009 season, with Biffle still in the #20, Joey Logano either spends an extra year in Nationwide, or drives the #96 for Hall of Fame Racing.
