- Description: Mitchell, who shot and killed a 50 year old man the day before, entered the grocery store where Peggy worked with her son and demanded all the money at gunpoint. Peggy handed him all $150 in the register, as well as the $10 she had on her. Mitchell then marched Peggy and her son Christopher to the back of the store. After putting her son in the cooler, Mitchell said: “I've never had a white bitch before”. When Peggy protested, he shoved her into the cooler, before shooting Christopher in the chest, and Peggy in the back of her head, before leaving momentarily.
- When he returned, he shot Christopher in the back of the head, before shooting Peggy three more times. As he was leaving the store, he spotted two young boys that had entered and robbed them too, before pointing the gun at them and pulling the trigger several times. The gun failed to fire, and so he marched them to the cooler and once again attempted to shoot them, but the gun failed to fire. He closed the cooler door and fled. Peggy survived to testify against Mitchell, who was executed September 1, 1987.
