- Name: Alec
- Gender: Male
- Race: Thana
- The thanen are a spacefaring race - or they would be if their home planet, Athiir, weren't completely surrounded by an intergalactic empire. Said empire has no interest in including the thanen and generally just wants them off of that planet by any means possible, so as you might imagine, they've been at war for decades, and while they are holding their own admirably well, they're slowly losing.
- Thanen are usually about six feet tall fully-grown and vaguely humanoid with a tough reddish hide. They don't have any hair, and their senses of hearing and smell are exceptional and lacking respectively. They also possess some catlike qualities, such as sharp teeth and claws and night vision. They tend not to use weapons unless there's no other feasible alternative, instead opting to use their claws. In general, they're not afraid to get their hands dirty, so to speak.

- Description: Alec is a biologist. He devotes most of his time to learning more about the bodies of both his race and the races he meets. Despite his general focus toward the sciences, he can and does hold his own in a fight. He enjoys a good challenge, and loves to play mind games with others. He tends to focus on one thing at a time, and put all of his effort toward that one thing.
- He generally comes off as genial, but it seems just a little forced. When under pressure, he speaks coldly and professionally, with a hint of disdain in his tone.
- He's short for a thana, and lean, at about five and a half feet. His muscles are clearly defined, and he has a few scars. His eyes give him an air of cold intelligence.
- Items/Abilities: Claws, ruthlessness.
- Biography:
[NOTE: There has been no contact with the interviewee since this interview.]
- [Alec [CLASSIFIED], being interviewed by Lt. Brenden on [CLASSIFIED]]
- Brenden: There have been a lot of people asking why you do…what you do.
- Alec: Yes?
- Brenden: It seems rather contradictory that someone considered an upstanding citizen would do something so unethical.
- Alec: Are you objecting?
- Brenden: No, the results of your…studies…have been incredibly useful.
- Alec: So why do you bother asking?
- Brenden: We’re curious as to why you use those specific methods.
- [Alec pauses, seemingly for dramatic effect.]
- Alec: We need to win this war, or failing that, make the cost to the Lari so high they abandon it. Every bit counts, and if I used conventional methods, I might be able to get the same results, but it would take much more time. The way I see it, I’m doing what’s necessary for our survival.
- Brenden: But why you in particular? Why can’t someone else do it?
- Alec: Many doctors will refuse to do things like this because it seems a bit counter-productive. Their job is saving lives, not experimenting on live test subjects. That’s why I don’t refer to myself as a doctor, incidentally.
- [Brenden writes something in a file.]
- Alec: We need the results as soon as we can get them. If that means that I have to do something that isn’t exactly…legitimate, then I’ll do it. It’s not too high a price for our survival.
- [Brenden nods and flips through his file.]
- Brenden: Is there any specific reason you mislead some of your subordinates?
- Alec: It’s fun. I do try not to let it interfere with anything major, so I don’t really see the harm in it. Is that all, or do you have anything more to ask?
- Brenden: Just one more thing. It says here that you performed better in your aptitude tests than some of our best soldiers. I’m a bit curious as to why a biologist would become such a good fighter.
- Alec: I’ve always been small. It was something I learned when I was younger, it stopped any of the bigger kids from picking on me. I kept it up because I thought it might come in handy at some point in the future. Never can be too prepared.
