- Reyan was born in a coastal fortress city, named Aquador. This city is full of humans that study the arcane in various ways. The arcane arts are the defense of the people of the city. These people have fought many battles and have been historically aggressive to any outsiders due to the past of conflict and war that the fortress city of Aquador has undergone and their lingering defensive nature in the face of opposition to the fortress. Aquador has been approached off and on by a pirate-like group of people seeking to open trade. Every time the city was approached its inhabitants met the pirate-like group of people with aggression and fear. There is a rigid dogmatic order amongst the people of Aquador and a sort of militaristic pride in its residents. It is commonly thought that any arcane knowledge from any outsiders that have approached the city is lesser than the arcane ways practiced by the people in the city. Learning outside arcane traditions is forbidden. Reyan has pride in himself as an individual more so than any pride in his heritage or his people. This pride led Reyan to search for growth amidst the stolid order of Aquador. Reyan is of noble birth and has knowledge of the inner workings and arbiters that maintain and secretly enforce the order of Aquador. Reyan has always questioned the order and the xenophobic ways of the people of Aquador. With the knowledge that Reyan possesses he chose to align himself with the Aquador Armistice Alliance, or AAA, in opposition to the hidden atrocities of the Imposers that maintain the order and keep outside knowledge hidden from the people. One day Reyan got his hands on some tomes and scrolls that were taken from the ships of the pirate-like people that once attacked the city and Reyan learned of their arcane ways, and of their deity, and their faith. After the inhabitants of the city found out that Reyan had learned the foreign arcane ways, spurred on by the hidden Imposers who wished to make a political strike against the AAA, they all ridiculed him and made him into a social outcast and pariah in Aquador. With the people rallied against Reyan and with unwanted attention being drawn to the AAA, Reyan was forced to leave Aquador by both the everyday inhabitants and what had come to be his family in the AAA. Reyan does not look kindly on the people of his home city and due to his experiences he does not look kindly on any who would keep secrets or hinder his growth. Reyan has a trusting nature but he is slow to reveal intimate details about himself and his past. Reyan has a longing to experience the freedom of the open sea and he wants to learn to sail a ship one day along his travels. The deity of the pirate-like people, Zalty, has noticed Reyan and chosen to make himself known to him and to aid him in his travels. From time to time Zalty speaks and acts through Reyan as if he were Reyan due to the close connection and ideals that Reyan and Zalty share and appreciate, but this often gets Reyan into trouble when alcohol or gambling is involved, amongst other things that pirate-like peoples tend to enjoy, because in times like those is when Zalty’s influence is the strongest. Since leaving Aquador Reyan has been taking odd jobs to earn coin and draw closer to those who can teach him the ways of the sea.
