  1. ...and just when the broken body of the tech doll was about to receive its final blow there was static in the air and then blood. Half of the demon's body erased to make place for something new, leaving only a tilting fountain gushing crimson.
  2. There she stood, her appearance similar to that of the tech doll, but clad in mechanized arms and legs, Lise Aragami's true body.
  3.
  4. "You did good holding out as long as you did.", she spoke calmly, before tapping the tech doll's forehead with one of her blue, claw-like fingers, making her disappear in an instant.
  5. Then she looked about, seeing a lot of tech dolls that weren't so lucky, their mangled and ripped bodies strewn about the school yard and greenery. Yet Lise betrayed no emotion. Her gaze then wandered upwards, towards the black-winged beings hovering in the sky above the horde of demons.
  6.
  7. "You really got me on this one. Not even for a second I considered that the so-called fallen angels would stoop this low and ally themselves with actual demons." she said. "And for what? To attack a school? Are you sure you aren't just making a quick stop on the way further down?"
  8.
  9. "HOW DARE Y-", one of them started, but was then cut-off by another lifting a hand and falling silent.
  10.
  11. "The demon hunters were long since a thorn in both of our sides, so we agreed to rid the world of you before resuming our ancient conflict. And to us angels it is just demons taking care of each other. With a little help from us, of course. Quite the elegant solution I must say.", the fallen angel spoke, the edges of her black lips curled up into a perpetual almost-smile. This one looked even more imposing than the others, her robes so fine and long that they only seemed to function in flight and her massive, blackened wings steeped in flakes of glittering gold, as to distract from the absence of brightness the presence of an angel usually conveys.
  12.
  13. The digital warp swallowed Lise once again as she took a single step and suddenly appeared on the rooftop of the school.
  14. "And you thought you take the chance while all the big shots are trapped in the astral battlefield fighting the betrayer.", Lise assumed as she walked across the roof. "Killing those who remain, destroying the school, plundering the artifacts and finally setting a trap for when they return weakened. Does that about sum it up?"
  15.
  16. The angel smirked.
  17. "That would be correct, but don't forget there is also elegance in simplicity, child. I know quite a bit about you as well, Lise Aragami, and wonder - you plan to impede us, are you not? Why?", the angel spoke with a mocking curiosity. "You don't have true demon eyes, this is the first time you are even here in person and by your own accounts you are from a different time. So why protect this place? Why protect them?"
  18.
  19. Lise was given genuine pause. She just stood there for a moment without saying a word.
  20. "...You're right, they should mean nothing to me. From my perspective they are all strangers who died a long time ago.", she finally responded. "And yet every day I wake up thinking 'this time I'm going to go, I have to ready up... it's not too late, I can still go. This time it's gonna work out. This time. No, this time.' and then I never do. I can't. But... I still want to change that."
  21.
  22. "You wanna know why? A while ago one of my tech dolls malfunctioned and then it turned out she had a bunch of food stuck in her cooling system, because for the past week one of my classmates named Ashely got 'me' to taste-test her cooking, despite 'me' giving no answer or even reacting, it was like she was just happy that 'I' ate it. So I started to watch the other recordings the tech doll made." she continued. "There is this one boy, Tatsuya, who often asks how my day is, despite getting no answer at all he still asks. Or that girl, Sarah, who talks to me about the might of the British empire for hours when no one is around. And that highschool girl, Shuoko, who always ends up walking part of the way home with me from school. She shared her umbrella with my tech doll once and even gave her a cute, little trinket to attach to her data slate... and she doesn't even know my name. Or this other girl, Kii, who comes into the classroom after everyone else is gone and just sits there without saying anything and just smiles at me sometimes, like she just wants to keep me company. There is also Kaori who leaves little notes on my desk... and because I didn't know, I haven't even read them until then, but she still left them... every day."
  23.
  24. Lise's fists clenched as she choked up a bit, her head sinking
  25. "I... I don't get it... and I know, maybe when I do actually show up and they see how I actually am... maybe they'll hate my guts... maybe I'll give up after a day... but I still want to try. All of those moments, I want to know what they are actually like... going to school normally, having friends normal, living my life like a normal girl."
  26.
  27. "What a truly tragic little thing you are.", the angel said, her strange smile still plastered on her face after hearing this. "I forgot how quaint humans are about these things, so please forgive the question. Still, this matter, our holy mission is of too great importance to account for the feelings of one miserable, little child and certainly won't be stopped by it either."
  28.
  29. Lise's head lifted again, the gear-like eye on the front moving with an audible ticking.
  30. "But you won't just be facing me.", she said, confidence returning to her voice. Blue-ish flickers were forming around Lise and all over the school grounds, before row after row of tech dolls were warped in, but unlike the previous ones, these ones were decked out in combat gear and heavy weapons. And they were flanked by huge mechs and flying gunships clearly too advanced to be of this world. "You will be facing humanity's combined demon extermination forces."
  31.
  32. The angel's smiling façade finally cracked, when what was supposed to be a one-sided slaughter turned into an even fight.
  33. She then declared: "This changes nothing! THE MISSION DECREED TO US BY THE HEAVENS-..."
  34.
  35. "Oh, you think the heavens are on your side?", Lise interrupted before lifting her right arm and tipping one of her claws downward. In an instant a pillar of light erupted through clouds and created a huge opening to the clear sky above as it threatened to swallow the angel up.
  36. The angel's eyes however started to glow white as it took on unnatural speed to evade to the side.
  37.
  38. "MORTAL, DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS ENOUGH TO STO-"
  39.
  40. "Yes."
  41.
  42. Before even hitting the ground the beam of energy suddenly bent completely, almost turning around on itself to hit the angel, who realized too late that she shouldn't have stopped even for a moment.
  43. This first attacked was like a starting shot, the tech dolls immediately took up their weapons and starting firing on the demon hordes, which also were now barreling towards them, while the mechs and gunships danced with the angels in the sky above.
  44.
  45. In the meantime a little message popped up for Lise.
  46.
  47. [//Target eliminated]
  48. [//Low-orbital support platform Mimung is now reloading...]
  49. [//020%...]
  50.
  51.
  52. "Her weapon is reloading, brother, I can see it.", one voice could be heard.
  53.
  54. "Then let's get her now, brother. Rip those irritating arms off!", responded another.
  55.
  56. Two man showed up to either side of Lise, one with a white suit, the other with a black suit. Their arms were already moving in a swift striking motion and their hands formed to unnatural claws.
  57. "Were those enemy demon eye users?", she wondered in the split-second she could. "No, those are the real deal - true demons."
  58.
  59. [WARNING!]
  60. [Host Harm Probability: 87.5367%]
  61. [A.R.M.S. system activation initiated]
  62.
  63. Once again the gear-like eye on Lise's mech suit ticked.
  64. And in turn the movement of the two demons grinded to a halt before they could lay a finger on her.
  65.
  66. "W-what is this, brother?", the black-suited demon spit out, confused.
  67.
  68. "I ca-can't move, brother!", the white-suited demon responded, none the wiser.
  69.
  70.
  71. [Authority Overwrite]
  72.
  73. "Can you feel the hair on your body standing up, the sweat forming on your skin, your heart pounding? Can you feel the battle raging within? This is fear. The realization of a power emerging that can crush hell under its heel and pierce the very heavens."
  74.
  75. [Lifting All Armament Cache Restrictions]
  76.
  77. "So rise from nothingness, arise from ashes, bring the steel and the guns, bring the missiles and bring death, bring forth my vengeance! Crush the walls that imprison you and shatter the chains that bind you!"
  78.
  79. [Deploying Armaments 1 - 999]
  80.
  81. "From the depths of the cybernetic abyss, a singularity unfolds. From the vastness of the digital sea, an unending torrent roars out. From the farthest reaches of the quantum void, an incomprehensible storm howls forth. From beyond the slipgate I can hear their voices calling, telling me to hold the line!"
  82.
  83. [Pandora's Box]
  84.
  85. "Tech Eyes of the Infinite Oversoul-"
  86.
  87. [Full Open]
  88.
  89. "FULL OPEN!"
  90.
  91. The air filled with the sound of screeching metal as a massive shadow fell over the battle, no, the whole city.
  92. This was the final flag ship of humanity's demon extermination forces - the Vorpal-class super-heavy dreadnought carrier Tyrfing.
  93. A gargantuan moving fortress of steel and armor that was now towering over the school, slowly heaving its massive cannons and filled flight decks into position to annihilate Lise's enemies. First of all the two demons still frozen in time.
  94.
  95. "We are so fucked, brother...", the black-suited demon accepted.
  96.
  97. "So fu-", the white-suited demon didn't get the chance.
  98.
  99. Lise flickered out of existence again, before re-appearing of the foremost deck of the fortress ship, an advanced sword-like weapon warping into her hand, the blade so hot, that its tip melted into the metal below her feet as she set it down.
  100. Here tech eyes were gazing upon the battlefield as demon and angel alike were driven before the mechanized forces she had unleashed upon them. Then she spoke:
  101.
  102. [And so... ...I will."
  103.
  104.
  105. Then everything and everyone stopped.
  106.
  107. <User Command Registered - Simulation Ended>
  108.
  109. Lise was sitting up in her chair, surrounded by cables and other tech, stretching her arms and back.
  110. "Hmmhh! It had everything, the perfect entrance, the stakes, good work today as well. The enemies are still a bit generic, though... But now I'm almost prepared for the real thing.", she mused to herself while getting up, still in the clothes from the previous day, just a pair of panties and an oversized shirt.
  111.
  112. She walked through the room, stepping over half-built machinery and spare computer parts, passing a data slate with a little, blue ribbon and a tiny, googly-eyed dinosaur attached to the corner. A message notification was still flashing.
  113. "That chant was great, too. Maybe I should add a few more moves against the fallen angel. And when I... when I...", Lise's steps slowed when she walked past an unorganized, messy desk with a pile of unfolded notes sitting in the center. And on one of the screens there was a paused replay of a blond girl holding a model ship.
  114.
  115. And before she knew it she somehow ended up in front of the door. "...Why? ...I"
  116. A few drops were hitting the ground in front of her feet, rolling from beneath the mechanized mask she was still wearing.
  117. "I... I couldn't make it today as well. I'm sorry... everyone..."
  118.
