  1. >"You obviously have trouble with offensive magic, so we'll try something else today."
  2. >Trixie pours some milk into the bowl of cereal in front of you.
  3. >She sits down on the other side of the table and begins to eat her toast.
  4. >It's early in the morning.
  5. >Almost time to start magic lessons.
  6. >You dig into your cereal.
  7. "I wanna learn how to fly. Is there a spell that can make me fly?"
  8. >Trixie glares over the paper she's reading.
  9. >"Don't be stupid. You have to master the basics. Do you want to break your skinny little neck when you crash?"
  10. "How about a teleport spell? I could do that one no problem!"
  11. >She goes back to her paper.
  12. >"Hush. Eat your breakfast. The sun has barely risen and you're already giving Trixie a headache."
  13. >You finish breakfast in silence, then get changed for practice.
  14. "Ready!"
  15. >Trixie rolls her eyes and straightens your cape.
  16. >"If you insist on wearing this silly thing, at least wear it right, human."
  17. >She huffs and licks her hoof, brushing over your spiky hair.
  18. >"And do something about this mess!"
  19. >You pull away and cover your head.
  20. "I can't! It's just like that... Maybe I can get a cool wizard hat like yours?"
  21. >She opens the front door and walks out.
  22. >"It's not a 'wizard hat'. And I can't afford to get you one. You'll probably just lose it like you did with that toy I bought you."
  23. >You run out after her.
  24. "I didn't lose it! I told you, Scootaloo broke it!"
  25. >It's a cloudy day.
  26. >The aftermath of last night's storm hangs around.
  27. >The ground is soggy and houses drip with rain.
  28. >You follow Trixie to your usual practice spot.
  29. >It's an open field with a few stumps in it.
  30. >"What will we practice today? Can I learn how to do a spirit bomb?"
  31. >Trixie takes off her hat and places it on a stump.
  32. >"I don't know what that is, so I'll assume it's something idiotic and made up. Today, Trixie will try to get enchantment magic through your thick little skull."
  33. >That sounds boring to you.
  34.
  35. >Enchantment magic is really boring.
  36. >Trixie spent the whole morning talking about it.
  37. >You haven't even cast one spell.
  38. >She keeps saying you have to understand the mechanics before trying it.
  39. >The two of you are back in the house, eating a lunch of sandwiches.
  40. "Maybe I should have a sword."
  41. >Trixie looks at you as though you have worms coming out of your ears.
  42. >"Where do you come up with all these silly thoughts?"
  43. "No, I mean, magic is easier if you have a tool or something, right? Like the unicorn's horn. You said something to uh... Channel the magic through makes magic more effective."
  44. >She rubs her head.
  45. >"Why in Equestria would I ever let you have a sword though?"
  46. >You shrug.
  47. "'Cause it's cool?"
  48. >She shakes her head, "Just eat your lunch. No swords. Carry a stick or something if you'd like, Trixie does not care."
  49. >After lunch, it's back to the field.
  50. >It's time to finally try a spell.
  51. >"Okay you, I want you to simply enchant this rope and make it move."
  52. >Trixie tosses a pile of rope in front of you.
  53. >"Just like Trixie told you. Focus."
  54. >This is stupid.
  55. >You take a deep breath, throwing your cape out behind you and raising your arms above your head.
  56. >"What are you doing?"
  57. >You smirk and look up at the sky.
  58. "I need a cool action pose to cast a spell. It will make it better, trust me."
  59. >Trixie rolls her eyes. "Whatever. Get on with it."
  60. >You don't need to do some dumb enchantment on some stupid rope.
  61. >This is going to be so much more cool.
  62. >You close your eyes and focus on all the energy around you.
  63. "Lend me your power..."
  64. >"What are you doing?! Do the enchantment spell! What are you doing?!"
  65. >You snap your eyes open and look up.
  66. >Above you, a small ball of fire is beginning to form.
  67. "More energy!"
  68.
  69. >The fireball swells to a larger size.
  70. >Trixie makes to stop you, but moves back when the fire makes a crackling noise.
  71. >"ANON, I'M SERIOUS! STOP THIS SPELL NOW!"
  72. >You smile and focus on your growing ball of fire.
  73. >It's not pure 'energy' like you wanted, but this works too.
  74. "Just watch! My special move!"
  75. >Now that the fireball is about the size of a car, you look ahead of you at an open patch of ground.
  76. "Now! SPIRIT BOOOOOOOOOOOOOMB!"
  77. >You make a throwing motion and the fireball rockets toward the ground.
  78. >Trixie tackles you hard and both of you crash to the ground behind a stump as the fireball hits the field.
  79. >The next few moments are a blur.
  80. >First, there's a huge explosion.
  81. >The sound is deafening and the light is too bright to keep your eyes open.
  82. >Then a force hits you, sending both you and Trixie flying and knocking the wind out of you.
  83. >You hit the ground again with an 'oof' and Trixie rolls beside you.
  84. >Once the madness is done, you get up with a groan and look to where the 'spirit bomb' hit.
  85. >You can tell your hair and eyebrows are a bit singed.
  86. >The impact spot is now a blackened smoking crater and some of the grass around it is burning.
  87. "Holy cra-"
  88. >Trixie's hoof strikes the back of your head.
  89. "OW! Hey! What are you-"
  90. >She gets in your face.
  91. >Oh, she's mad.
  92. >Her mane is a little singed and there's black ash and dirt on her face.
  93. >"Home. Now. Right now. Wait."
  94. >This is the most angry you have ever seen her.
  95. >She's not even yelling, but her eye is twitching.
  96. >Without a word, you run back home while she cleans up the mess you made.
  97.
  98. "That was really awesome."
  99. >You're worried about how bad Trixie will punish you, but you don't think you'll ever forget that moment.
  100. >Your heart is still racing as you sit on your bed and wait for Trixie.
  101. >Finally, she walks into your room.
  102. "Trixie, I'm sorry I-"
  103. >"Grounded."
  104. >She appears to have a calm face.
  105. >But there is simmering rage in her tone.
  106. >It's worse than her yelling.
  107. >"You're grounded. For two weeks. You will not do ANY magic, you will do extra chores every day and you will stay in your room when not cleaning, do you understand?"
  108. >You look down.
  109. "Okay..."
  110. >"And you will study whenever you're not doing chores or eating."
  111. >You stand up.
  112. "No! That's not fair!"
  113. >Trixie's nostrils flare. "Are you disobeying me? Again?"
  114. >You sit down and huff.
  115. "No ma'am..."
  116. >"Good. Then you can start on cleaning the bathroom after you take a bath."
  117. >This is the worst.
  118. >Trixie leads you to the bathroom and makes you sit on a stool in front of the mirror while she trims your singed hair and scrubs your face.
  119. >As she rubs a wet cloth roughly on your cheek, she sighs.
  120. >"That was the stupidest thing Trixie has ever seen. You're lucky you're not in the hospital right now."
  121. >She finishes cleaning your face, then goes back to trying to tame your hair.
  122. >"But... I'm impressed. That was quite a show of magical force."
  123. >You smile at her and she looks away with a frown and a slightly reddened face.
  124. >"Don't ever try it again though. I mean it, Anon."
  125. >You wrap your arms around her and hug her close.
  126. "I'm sorry. I know it was stupid. I'll study hard and I won't disobey you anymore."
  127. >Trixie lets you hug her a bit while she stares at the wall with a flushed face.
  128. >"Okay, okay. That's enough. Get in the bath, you."
  129. >She leaves the bathroom.
  130. >Though she's stomping angrily,
  131. >You can see her smiling a little.
