  7. >Welcome to Not Late Night /pa/ with your host Pinkie Pie! It's during this time that content does matter, but my writer is debating if he wants to write a short dream adventure for me! Now for our main guest...RAINBOW DASH!!!
  8. Applause
  9.
  10. "Wassup"
  11.
  12. >How's Tank?
  13.
  14. RD starts tearing up and cries.
  15. "Taaaaaaank!"
  16.
  17. >Okay, you're still taking it well. That's our show. Thanks for joining us everypony!
  18.
  19. RD wakes up.

  26. "???"
  27. '???'
  28. ~???~
  29. ~~~~~
  30.
  31. >WHY DIDN'T I STAY WITH THE FAIRIES!?
  32.
  33. This was, of course, a question he should probably have asked before setting out into the big scary woods after fulfilling their request and getting his requisite loot. It was a big, shimmering, glowing castle, the odds of the others stumbling upon it were high enough he could probably have waited it out, and they certainly weren't in a rush to get rid of him.
  34.
  35. But no, he had decided the grind time and stalling had ended, and it was time to go out into the big scary world!
  36.
  37. And, of course, he was immediately besieged by harpies.
  38.
  39. So, so many harpies.
  40.
  41. SO MANY harpies.
  42.
  43. In true heroic fashion, the first inclination was to try to battle them, to heroically clash in an epic fight greater than any had been before!
  44.
  45. But again... SO MANY HARPIES.
  46.
  47. >CRAP CRAP CRAP CRA-... oh crap!
  48.
  49. Fun fact, harpies fly. Which means they likely prefer to stay in areas with high places to look down from. Say, in a place surrounded by trees, on the edge of, say... mountains.
  50.
  51. Much like the one currently staring him down, and mocking him with it's sheerness.
  52.
  53. >...Crap.
  54.
  55. With nowhere left to run, he instead turned his holy blade to them, the many... MANY harpies surrounding him, all of them preparing to attack, and likely more waiting in the woods he could not peer into.
  56.
  57. >Well, this was a surprisingly short run through.
  58.
  59. Speaking of 'run through', they seemed to take that for a cue.
  60.
  61. ~And lo, did the brave paladin find himself surrounded, his end surely to come swiftly, and oh so painfully.~
  62.
  63. >Diiiidn't need the refresher, Luna.
  64.
  65. ~For the biggest, meanest, strongest, and most eyeball hungry Harpy was preparing her attack!~
  66.
  67. >...That last part just seems like unnecessary information.
  68.
  69. ~And with this roll... ATTACK!~
  70.
  71. He braced himself, knowing that, with his life in Luna's hooves... this was going to hurt.
  72.
  73. "Roll for surprise counterattack."
  74.
  75. That voice... that sounded so familiar.
  76.
  77. But is sounded so... different.
  78.
  79. ~Oh! Uh... huh.~
  80.
  81. "Well, looks like I've found a bit of fire in my life."
  82.
  83. From the shadow of the trees, he heard a whip crack out, snapping as it soared through the skies and wrapping itself around the neck of the gawking harpy.
  84.
  85. With a single jerk back, the winged sorta-avian burst into flame, and was hurled through the air into one of it's brethren. Both hit the ground shortly thereafter, burning away into cinders, and shining a light into the dark woods beyond.
  86.
  87. Within that dim light, twin hungry, narrowed eyes glowed like fire.
  88.
  89. "What a pity, I hoped you would last longer... oh, but I supposed there's this big, strong, shining paladin over here that can cover that."
  90.
  91. Heels clicked against invisible cobble stones with every step as the figure emerged. Tall, slender legs parted the trees with an easy gait as the harpies spread out, allowing her a passage to move in their fear. She stepped into the light, each ray glimmering against the jewels on her... 'sparse' outfit, runes etched into them every bit as wicked as her smile
  92.
  93. Gently, she moved her whip under his chin, and lifted until his goggling, stupefied eyes locked with hers.
  94.
  95. "What say you, paladin? Do you desire a little... fun with me? I promise you, it will be worth your while..."
  96.
  97. >....C-Celestia!?
  98.
  99. The alabaster alicorn smirked, adjusting her garb ever so slightly.
  100.
  101. "And here I thought you wouldn't recognize me."
  102.
  103. >...You're a succubus.
  104.
  105. She threw her surprisingly dark mane back, cackling with glee at his open, unabashed staring.
  106.
  107. "That I am! Mage class, to be more precise. I decided, you know, I always play the same type, same role same everything... what if I mixed it up, just a bit? I thought... what if I played the bad girl for once?..."
  108.
  109. She closed the distance between them, breathing into his ear.
  110.
  111. "What do you think?"
  112.
  113. >...Uh huh.
  114.
  115. "I thought so."
  116.
  117. >You uh... you do look... good. Really, uh.... really good.
  118.
  119. "Mmmm... and I admit, you fill out that armor really, really well. Say, I could use a boost to take care of these things, why don't we try a little advanced-"
  120.
  121. ~So wrapped up in her little game with the shining paladin warrior, the succubi failed to notice as the next harpy attacked!... Which was all of them!~
  122.
  123. >"...WHAT!?"
  124.
  125. Both swirled around just in time to see a literal army of the things tearing off at them like they had revealed they had harpy-treats stuffed in their eyeballs.
  126.
  127. "Talking is a free action! TALKING IS A FREE ACTION!"
  128.
  129. ~Unless the master says otherwise! WE SAY OTHERWISE! THINE ATTACK GOES-~
  130.
  131. All of them, every one, stopped when of all things, a dead squirrel was tossed in between player characters and nameless mob.
  132.
  133. ~...What the-~
  134.
  135. 'Roll. For. Counterattack.'
  136.
  137. Strong. Determined. Unwavering. Focused. Deadly serious. All of these worked to describe the voice that boomed out like thunder through the area.
  138.
  139. Familiar was another one...
  140.
  141. ~...Oh, dear.~
  142.
  143. 'Critical.'
  144.
  145. The woods beside them exploded with light, a thrust of a beat of wings signaled their newest arrival. Enshrouded by the light of the sun, they hefted a staff of glimmering white to the sky, and called to the shrieking masses down below.
  146.
  147. 'Twisted things of old. Fellows who once flew free who follow this darkened path. Monsters spawned from what had been! I cast you away! You know not the heat of salvation, you know not the glow of above, you know not light of glory! LET ME SHOW YOU!'
  148.
  149. They shrieked in agony as the staff swung down, letting loose a blinding light that consumed them all. One by one, their feathers burst into flames, seared away by the magic. With nothing to keep them aloft, one by one they fell from the sky, and to a doom their suddenly weakened bodies could not withstand anymore.
  150.
  151. With one fell swoop, they all fell dead, and dissolved away beneath the light of the heavens.
  152.
  153. 'Fools.'
  154.
  155. The figure descended upon them, encircled by the rays of the sun as she narrowed in on the two she had defended.
  156.
  157. They looked on in shock... and a little bit of awe.
  158.
  159. 'Warrior of light, defender of truth, you would cavort with this... thing of the dark? You would sully thineself with one who has taken with the dark forces? You would give yourself to one so... black? Warrior, that is so... Sexy!'
  160.
  161. So much for that awe thing. Facehoof knocked that right away. For Celestia, at least.
  162.
  163. Shining continued to stare, just a bit.
  164.
  165. "Chrysalis, what are you doing?"
  166.
  167. The changeling smiled wide, adjusting her flowing, ethereal robes a little bit. Robes that should have covered all of her, but for some reason came up a little 'short' in the back.
  168.
  169. 'Playing against type.'
  170.
  171. "You picked an Angel!? Seriously!? That's... that's what I normally am! This is so weird! You're an ANGEL!?"
  172.
  173. 'Mmmm... looks like I am. More specifically... succubus class.'
  174.
  175. "...Absolutely not."
  176.
  177. 'Hmm?'
  178.
  179. "You absolutely can't, that's like mixing oil and water. Those are two opposite things."
  180.
  181. 'Yeaaaah, long story. See, I'm an angel who found the secret to succubi magic, and was so enamored with the whole thing that I abandoned my previous life to become one of them! I retained my angelic powers, but instead of prayer to a certain deity-who feels betrayed by my leaving of course- I obtain it through love and happiness, like an angel should.'
  182.
  183. "But... how does that work!? You would be so OP!"
  184.
  185. 'Ah, aaactually...'
  186.
  187. She shuffled, looking a touch nervous.
  188.
  189. "Wait a minute, what are the odds you were so close to us at that exact moment? Hold up, I'm actually trying to think about this. That it happened to me was unlikely enough, but for you also to be right there? Just seems... improbable."
  190.
  191. '...'
  192.
  193. "...You didn't arrive just now, did you?"
  194.
  195. '...'
  196.
  197. "How long have you been following him?"
  198.
  199. '...'
  200.
  201. "...Chrysalis?"
  202.
  203. ~And low, did the foolish angel try to hide her shame, that she had been following her warrior of light for several hours, all while killing small animals in a desperate attempt to level up this whole time! Lo, did she pray they did not know that while he was being chased, many a rabbit and squirrel were being frantically blasted with all the fever of a serial killer, all because she had been so utterly stupid in her choices that-~
  204.
  205. 'THANK YOU, LUNA, WE GET THE POINT!'
  206.
  207. "Wait, stupid choices in what?"
  208.
  209. '...Okay, think about it like this. I'm an angel, but I chose the path of the succubi, right? So angels don't like me anymore.'
  210.
  211. "Right."
  212.
  213. 'But also, I'm an angel, the sworn enemy of the succubi, so they don't like me.'
  214.
  215. "Following."
  216.
  217. 'And any who come across me know I'm an angel who chose a dark path, so they... would be suspicious.'
  218.
  219. "Riiight?"
  220.
  221. 'How much of a penalty to charisma do you think I took with that one?'
  222.
  223. "...ohhhhhh... OHHHHh... oh."
  224.
  225. 'Yeah, it was higher.'
  226.
  227. "Wait, wouldn't that have made you a mute?"
  228.
  229. 'Until level 2, yes. And that's only because you need at least one point to talk... which is all I have.'
  230.
  231. "...OHHHHHHH... pfft...pfft..."
  232.
  233. 'Don't-'
  234.
  235. "AHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHH!"
  236.
  237. 'And theeere it is.'
  238.
  239. "Oh, poor little angel..."
  240.
  241. Her voice changed on a dime, going from mocking to silky smooth with unsettling ease.
  242.
  243. "Thought she could play in my domain without any penalties... oh, but little does she know that this life has such... detriments."
  244.
  245. 'Many benefits, though. As one like yourself should be able to attest, succubus.'
  246.
  247. "Oh yes..."
  248.
  249. She closed in, so close her and Chrysalis's muzzle's nearly touched.
  250.
  251. "Many benefits, angel. Perhaps you made the right choice, or perhaps you're just a little rebellious girl in over her head... it'll be fun to see if you're the type to scream... or the type to SCREAM."
  252.
  253. 'Mmm... perhaps at another time, for we have found ourselves a more interesting companion, have we not?'
  254.
  255. Her eyes glimmered with mirth before they cut to the side, looking upon the stock still paladin.
  256.
  257. "Oh, I suppose we have..."
  258.
  259. 'You know, a paladin can increase his power with relations to... divinity like myself. And I also get a boost from the... act, of course. Perhaps I should go first?'
  260.
  261. "...Really? Is this really why you-"
  262.
  263. 'Shh! Stay in character!'
  264.
  265. "...Ahem... why can't we... share?"
  266.
  267. '...I'm not opposed to sharing if it's a fellow... succubus.'
  268.
  269. >Uh... uh...
  270.
  271. ~SUDDENLY! A HORDE OF BLADED RHINOS SMELLED THEM, AND BEGAN THUNDERING IN THEIR DIRECTION!~
  272.
  273. "Wait, what!? Bladed rhinos can't smell worth a-"
  274.
  275. ~START RUNNING!~
  276.
  277. Be it from the insistence in her voice or the sudden thundering of a stampede, but they decided it was probably a good idea to obey.
  278.
  279. "Damn it, Luna! Now we've got to... Shining?"
  280.
  281. Abruptly, the stallion slapped himself across the face.
  282.
  283. Hard.
  284.
  285. >MARRIED!.... wait, I'm sorry, what was-
  286.
  287. 'STAMPEDE!'
  288.
  289. >Oh... OH SHIT!
  290.
  291. The running began.
  292.
  293. They didn't know when it would stop.
  294.
  295. ~..Ugghh... we still see it in our mind...~
  296.
  297. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  298.
  299. >Cadence
  300. "???"
  301. ~~~
  302.
  303. >Okay! So, that didn't go so well, but at least I didn't die! Yay! Yay for Cadence, she didn't die, that's a plus and I am plussing all my plusses for that one. You see this, little bunny? This is how you do it!... Now! Which way do I go?... North?
  304.
  305. "Don't go north.'
  306.
  307. >Gotcha! North, no go, no going on the northing. Not going to do that... should I gooooo.... south?
  308.
  309. "Not south either."
  310.
  311. >No going down south!... heh, not that I do all that much anyway, heyooo!... I should really say this when ponies are actually around, you know? I always feel embarrassed when trying to talk like that around others, but it's kinda fun.... okay, so, go east?
  312.
  313. "East is bad."
  314.
  315. >Then that only leaves one direction! Go west, frontier style! Ride 'em like the wind... now that I do sometimes! Hee hee!... Wow, I would never say that around others, you know? I seriously think I would die if anyone heard me say that.... Focus! That's the way I need to go and how I'm going to go to it! Yes! This is totally fine and in every way a good thing!
  316.
  317. "It certainly can't be as bad as your other choices."
  318.
  319. >Oh please, I've only made one bad choice and that was the time I tried to practice on a cucumber... waaaait a minute....
  320.
  321. "..."
  322.
  323. >...wait a minute...
  324.
  325. "..."
  326.
  327. >...Wait...
  328.
  329. "..."
  330.
  331. >...If you're Chrysalis, just kill me now.
  332.
  333. "Not her."
  334.
  335. >If you're Twilight, SUPER kill me.
  336.
  337. "Not her either."
  338.
  339. >...Eighteen?
  340.
  341. "Getting warmer."
  342.
  343. >...
  344.
  345. *poke*
  346.
  347. >....oh... OHHHH! Thank goodness, Forty Two?
  348.
  349. "Got it."
  350.
  351. >PHEW! I mean... PHEW! Hooo hoo hoo... wow. That was... woo! Thank goodness.
  352.
  353. "Erm... glad you're more comfortable with saying that to me?"
  354.
  355. >Oh yeah, I never have to worry about you making fun of me for it or telling anyone.... or doing it back. PHEW! Good, got me a bodyguard! Let's go!
  356.
  357. "Er... right behind you..."
  358.
  359. >...
  360.
  361. "...Eighteen says you should actually practice with a banana, because..."
  362.
  363. >...
  364.
  365. "Shutting up now."
  366.
  367. >I thank you.
  368.
  369. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  370.
  371. >???
  372. "Luna"
  373.
  374. "Have to admit, this? This is a departure for you."
  375.
  376. THWACK!
  377.
  378. >How do you mean?
  379.
  380. SMACK SMACK WHABAM!
  381.
  382. "We didn't quite thinkest thou to chose the monk class-"
  383.
  384. >Hang on, MANTIS STANCE!
  385.
  386. SMASH!
  387.
  388. "-or the Ironshod race."
  389.
  390. >What can I say? I'm a complicated...well Ironshod are essentially robots, so I'm not quite a girl now am I?
  391.
  392. "...nice work with the gilding by the way."
  393.
  394. >Oh please darling, even as a living suit of armor, there's no excuse to not be elegant-
  395.
  396. THWACK SMACK!
  397.
  398. "...and that's the last of the kobolds. Honestly if we can be frank, that was a bit overkill."
  399.
  400. >With such hideous creatures, overkill is the only kill I can do.
  401.
  402. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  403.
  404. >18
  405. "Dash"
  406. ~~~
  407.
  408. >So that's why I say, practice with a banana! It's softer, so there's less hazard there from the hardness, and it gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect!
  409.
  410. "...How did the conversation get to this point, and how can I make it not this point anymore?"
  411.
  412. >Well, you're the one who brought it up.
  413.
  414. "How. How did I bring it up?"
  415.
  416. >You specifically asked for tips!
  417.
  418. "Yeah, but on-ohhhhhh."
  419.
  420. >Oh?
  421.
  422. "Oh, uh... I thought you were talking about something else."
  423.
  424. >What? What else could I have meant? Peeling a banana is perfect for practicing peeling off papers and separating them! Why, if you do it right you won't even have to lick your hooves!
  425.
  426. "Ah... see, when I kinda mentioned the other thing, I thought you were talking about."
  427.
  428. >Oh...OH!
  429.
  430. "..."
  431.
  432. >...A banana IS great for that too-
  433.
  434. "Got it."
  435.
  436. >Or if you really want, just grab some young rookie and-
  437.
  438. "GOT IT."
  439.
  440. >...Have you ever-
  441.
  442. "CAN WE PLEASE NOT TALK ABOUT ME SUCKING A DICK!"
  443.
  444. >...
  445.
  446. "..."
  447.
  448. >...
  449.
  450. "..."
  451.
  452. >...There is someone else RIGHT behind me, isn't there?
  453.
  454. "Yep."
  455.
  456. >Gonna make fun of me?
  457.
  458. "Uh..."
  459.
  460. 'Dashie, I never knew about this side of you! Rainbow hair totally threw me off.'
  461.
  462. >SHUT UP PINKIE!
  463.
  464. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
  465.
  466. >Spike
  467. "Luna"
  468. ~~~~
  469.
  470. "Thou finds thineself in- OH DEAR SWEET MOTHER ABOVE!"
  471.
  472. >Oh, hey Luna, finally remember me?
  473.
  474. "WHY IS EVERYTHING ON FIRE!?"
  475.
  476. >It was flammable.
  477.
  478. "That does not answer our question!"
  479.
  480. >...I think it does, actually. Where have you been?
  481.
  482. "We were trying to focus on the others! We are trying to go in order of importance!"
  483.
  484. >Oh. Do you need to go to someone else? I can wait while you get to them.
  485.
  486. "Not necessary."
  487.
  488. >...Harsh.
  489.
  490. "SAYS THE BABY IMMOLATOR!"
  491.
  492. >Baby?
  493.
  494. "Yes! Those little things were BABIES!"
  495.
  496. >Babies to what?
  497.
  498. *ROOOAR!*
  499.
  500. >...
  501.
  502. "THAT!"
