  3. I simply tell it how it is, no 'PC' as it were
  4. OldSch00l
  5. I can tell you what I DO believe, if you are interested

  10. OldSch00l
  11. I believe that the American public has become ignorant and poorly educated to the point that the electorate is insufficiently capable of making decisions based on fact and reason
  12. OldSch00l
  13. and I ascribe this to a number of causes dating back decades
  14. infspire
  15. OldSch00l: What's PC?
  16. OldSch00l
  17. I was watching the documentary on the Apollo 11 missions a little while back, and was taken by how everyone in it seemed articulate and informed, how they ceded decisions and positions to people who are experts in their fields

  22. OldSch00l: Are you are that almost all cultures have norms and restrictions on speech?
  23. infspire
  24. The more a culture embraces evidence-based reasoning, the fewer restrictions they typically have.
  25. infspire
  26. Right-wing culture features higher rates of authoritarianism and in-group v. out-group dynamics, with overall less appreciation of evidence-based reasoning.
  27. infspire
  28. And consequently, as we observe, they feature *more* restrictions and norms on speech.
  29. infspire
  30. About 98% of people who use the term PC, in my experience, are shockingly propagandized and believe it is a left-wing phenomenon.
  31. infspire
  32. This is unbelievably bad folk-anthropology.
  33. infspire
  34. Which makes sense the right does it as they don't believe in anthropology, as that's based off evidence and empathy.
  35. infspire
  36. Which are anti-values for that community.
  37. infspire
  38. So, yes, left-wing cultures features norms and restrictions on speech.
  39. OldSch00l
  40. there was a guest on Maher's show who I think put it very well - modern politics isn't as much about left vs right, as it is authoritarian vs democratic
  41. infspire
  42. Right-wing cultures features many more.
  43. infspire
  44. Agreed.
  45. infspire
  46. Right-wing means authoritarian in the US after the 1964 political realignment.
  47. infspire
  48. Almost all authoritarians are now in the GOP.
  49. infspire
  50. I can show you the research.

  56. OldSch00l
  57. I believe that the government should be a force for good in people's lives, and foster and protect an egalitarian society. I think many on the modern American right have completely lost touch with how the government benefits them to the point of delusion
  58. infspire
  59. OldSch00l: The right fundamentally doesn't believe in modernity.
  60. infspire
  61. This isn't generally discussed.
  62. infspire
  63. Modernity is a leftist project.
  64. OldSch00l
  65. "I didn't join the military to get free healthcare, GI bill education, and housing assistance to DEFEND SOCIALISM"
  66. OldSch00l
  67. etc
  68. infspire
  69. Modernity is founded on the notion that there should be non-authoritarian legal systems based off evidence that bind all members of society.
  70. infspire
  71. This is anathema to the ways humans have typically organized themselves.
  72. infspire
  73. The right has sort of shuffled along with modernity and democracy because they've had a large enough constituency where they could reasonably win, under democracy, for their authoritarian values.
  74. Tacos has left IRC (Ping timeout: 252 seconds)
  75. infspire
  76. That is no longer the case, and so they've abandoned democracy.
  77. infspire
  78. They're not coming back.
  79. infspire
  80. They're never coming back.
  81. infspire
  82. They were never with us.
  83. infspire
  84. They are programmed by genetics, due to evolution, to see the values of equality and openness in modernity as THREATS.
  85. infspire
  86. Our society doesn't talk about it because we have no solution for it in our universalism based democratic system.
  87. infspire
  88. When systems don't know how to resolve fundamental problems, they don't acknowledge them.
  89. infspire
  90. They hypernormalize and say that Trump is bad but the GOP is good. Or the GOP has temporary lost its mind -- it's a fluke, an aberration.
  91. infspire
  92. It isn't.
  93. USA_ has joined (uid56228@id-56228.charlton.irccloud.com)
  94. OldSch00l
  95. I'm not sure where I stand on the biology or genetics of one's politics
  96. infspire
  97. OldSch00l: The research is quite clear and strong.
  98. infspire
  99. You can predict a person's politics quite accurately by asking them just a few questions about 'order' or parenting.
  100. infspire
  101. Indicating politics is, for most people, expressions of their genetic nature.
  102. OldSch00l
  103. I would chalk that more up to the 'nurture' side of the spectrum
  104. infspire
  105. That's not what the research seems to indicate.
  106. infspire
  107. You can show a picture of a deformed circle to people ask them if it is a circle or not.
  108. infspire
  109. If they say 'no', it's a strong predictor for right-wing politics.
  110. infspire
  111. Right-wing minds feature stronger boundaries between concepts, which explains the circle, why they get upset about gender manipulation, and why they like physical borders between people.
  112. infspire
  113. About 1/3 of humans are born authoritarians, it appears.
  114. infspire
  115. This is a forever problem for our species.
  116. infspire
  117. At ~1/3, it means if any substantial crisis occurs, a democratic society may put a dictator in charge, which can lead to catastrophic failure, especially with nuclear weapons and climate change.
  118. infspire
  119. Clearly, we have to stop authoritarian people from guiding our civilization, but that violates the current foundation of 'universalism'.
  120. infspire
  121. And so it's verboten and won't be implemented without substantial crisis, first.
  122. infspire
  123. The problem is that in 2019, the levels of energy manipulation in our species are such that a crisis is now an existential threat to our species.
  124. infspire
  125. So it's not clear we'll have a humanity left after the necessary crisis to provoke revolutionary change.
  126. infspire
  127. Which is why I, personally, predict that our species will go extinct soonish, e.g. ~2100.
  128. infspire
  129. Sucks.
  130. OldSch00l
  131. my brother has become increasingly radicalized, along those lines - impending crisis and revolution
  132. OldSch00l
  133. I guess I currently don;t see it
  134. OldSch00l
  135. he recently joined the Socialist Rifle Association
  136. OldSch00l
  137. and I have considered something similar, like the John Brown Gun Club
  138. OldSch00l
  139. but I like to think I am still an idealist
  140. fred
  141. and rumsfeld for 'healthcare'
  142. infspire
  143. You have accused me of being radialized.
  144. infspire
  145. Even though you've refuted none of my points.
  146. infspire
  147. And I've cited a lot of research, which you've cited none.
  148. infspire
  149. You also don't see a crisis or need for revolution.
  150. infspire
  151. Even though Trump is president, the NRA decides gun policy, 60% of Americans have zero wealth, 50% of American's can't afford a $500 bill, life expectancy has dropped two years in a row, the leading party in the USA, the GOP, routinely gaslights in national television for which there are visual and audio rebuttals, and the GOP denies climate change is real, even though global scientists indicates we have less than
  152. infspire
  153. 12 years to make substantial, revolutionary changes to our energy production and consumption to avoid the worst effects of global increasing temperature.
  154. infspire
  155. So, pray tell, what would a need for revolution look like if it isn't decreases in health of Americans, decreases in wealth, corruption of our elections via Russian propaganda (and other states), and a failure to acknowledge climate change which is equivalent to 1000-10000 Chernobyls.
  156. infspire
  157. Radicalization is a literal pejorative.
  158. infspire
  159. It's the textbook example.
  160. infspire
  161. OldSch00l: I put you on ignore for 72 hours for your nonsense comment, given my high quality chat.
  162. infspire
  163. Imagine bringing up the Socialist Rifle Association.
  164. 16:12 infspire
  165. Motherfuck -- like that's a player whatsoever in American politics.
  166. infspire
  167. Fuck outta here.
  168. infspire
  169. Me: Here's a combination of political science, philosophy, climate analysis, evolutionary psychology, and genetics research to give an extremely cogent argument using exceptional vocabulary, punctuation, and grammar, indicating a high verbal IQ.
  170. infspire
  171. OldSch00l: I dunno, I can't really respond to a single piece of content you've shared, but it sounds radicalized to me.
