- Yet the monster could only grin uncontrollably, snorting with cruel laughter as he stood to his feet. "You think you've won, Vegeta! Hah! I am indestructible, you can never defeat me! That little respite was all the time I needed to figure out how to destroy you!" As quickly as he could, Cell began pumping himself up, filling his body with excess explosive ki, set to detonate.
- Even from the first few seconds, Gohan already knew what Cell was about to do. There wasn't time to explain, either.
- "VEGETA!" the boy yelled at the top of his lungs. "ATTACK HIM NOW, HURRY!" Gohan's voice was impassioned, desperate. To see Cell perform another false self-destruction, only to return an even worse terror than before, was something he would never allow.
- Cell's eyes widened in shock at how quickly the boy had reacted, but it was too lateāfor him. He couldn't stop the technique now even if he wanted. Large beads of perspiration leaked down Cell's massively disfigured forehead as Vegeta looked him dead in the eyes and attacked.
- "Well," he chuckled. "You heard the boy!"
- BABOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
- Thanks to an immediate punch from the Saiyan, Cell's body detonated prematurely, having only been able to concentrate a mere fraction of the energy needed for it to work. Had Gohan's instincts been wrong and Cell actually exploded at full power, none of them would still be standing on the Earth. Rather, if they had survived at all they would be floating in a field of debris where the planet once had been. As it was, the creature's plan had been utterly and completely thwarted. Not only had Vegeta easily shielded himself from the blast, but because of the nature of the attack Cell was unable to do so.
- Dust slowly cleared from around the detonation, revealing what looked like a stick figure within. Cell had blown off his outer armor, skin, muscle tissue, and a good deal of organs. Waving slightly from side to side, his warped and toothy face frozen in a state of evil joy, he was utterly exposed. His eye sockets, now nothing but voids, furthered the look of his gruesome state. Small bits of cauterized, charred flesh flaked off of his form revoltingly.
- How had he gambled, only to lose another large chunk of his energy. And if he didn't regenerate quickly, he'd have provided Vegeta a perfect shot right at him. Somehow, amidst his pathetic state, Cell was still consciously aware of himself. Even as he tried to take in his surroundings, he could sense Vegeta begin to collect energy in front of him.
- "Well, what have we here?" he chuckled, stretching his left hand out in front, palm forward. "So this is the epic grand finale? This is how you die, Cell? I must say, it all seemed a bit anti-climactic. Then again, the end result is the same to me."
- Pausing ever so briefly, Vegeta made sure he was putting enough energy into his Maximum Flasher. The end was nigh, no matter how grand or spectacular. He was going to obliterate every atom of that monster's body.
- "HYAAAA!" he yelled. The beam sent streaks out in every direction, growing in size until it was wide and tall enough to completely encompass Cell. "Burn in Hell, filth!"
- The pathetic and disgusting collection of organic matter known as Cell couldn't even see his own demise. From the second he'd failed to self-destruct, he'd sought nothing but a means of escape, scanning even the remotest of energy signatures. Anywhere would do, absolutely anywhere.
- ZIP.
- As only Cell could do, the monster vanished just before the impact of Vegeta's Maximum Flasher, escaping to the far side of the planet in the nick of time. Once there, he focused all his efforts on regeneration, his entire body shivering out of desperation and fear. How close he'd been to true death...it was unthinkable that he had fallen so far.
- THCHIN!
- Standing suddenly beside him, even as the green juice covered his fully regenerated body, was an incredibly ticked off Saiyan prince.
