- HARRY POTTER HOGWARTS MYSTERY (MOD) - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- QUESTION 1: "I don't want to read all of this, can you make it shorter?"
- ANSWER: No. I wrote all of this for a reason. If you don't want to read, we're not helping you.
- QUESTION 2: "Can I log into my Facebook account using this mod?"
- ANSWER: Yes! But you need to back up your save on Facebook using the vanilla version of the game (the one from the Google Play Store) before you start modding for the first time. If you don't, you'll be stuck playing on that device forever, because you can't safely recover a modded account without Facebook. Hope it doesn't break! If you need to know how to log into your account after you've connected it to Facebook, follow the instructions in this guide: https://pastebin.com/gAU9yn9R
- QUESTION 3: "Can I use my Google Play account with this mod?"
- ANSWER: As far as we're aware, no. Attempting to log into Google Play using the new option in the account menu doesn't work on the mod. Your only option to save your account is to use Facebook.
- QUESTION 4: "Will doing <x> get me banned?"
- ANSWER: Currently, there are two ways to get banned by using this mod. They are as follows:
- A. Attempting to contact Jam City's customer support. If you reach out to the game developers for any reason, such as reporting a bug, asking for help with a quest, or trying to transfer a save without Facebook, they are required to analyze your account for any discrepancies in your activity. This includes your purchase history, whether or not you've logged in using the vanilla app, how fast you've been progressing through the game with/without spending money, etc. As soon as they see ANYTHING out of the ordinary, you'll be banned within a couple of days.
- B. Logging in during a Full Marks or House Pride event. These two events are the only multiplayer events in the whole game. Everything else is strictly singleplayer, no matter how it looks. During FM or HP, other players have the ability to report suspected cheaters if they see something unusual. If anyone in your multiplayer group (NOT JUST YOU, ANYONE!) gets reported, Jam City will analyze your account. Even if you weren't the one who got reported, they have to check everyone's accounts in the group. Even if you switch back to the vanilla app or try to ignore the event, they have to check your account. And just like before, as soon as they see something out of the ordinary, you'll be banned.
- While it is *technically* safe to play during House Pride, you will become enrolled in the event as soon as you perform any action that causes your character to earn House Points. With Full Marks, enrollment is instantaneous - it will occur as soon as the game finishes loading.
- When we say "don't log in during Full Marks or House Pride", we seriously mean DON'T LOG IN DURING FULL MARKS OR HOUSE PRIDE!
- QUESTION 5: "Why can't I play during Full Marks/House Pride?"
- ANSWER: See above. I'm not repeating myself anymore.
- QUESTION 6: "My game keeps crashing, what do I do?"
- ANSWER: If the crash is preventing you from making progress in the main story, Quidditch, or a side quest, try switching back to the vanilla app and playing through that section without cheats. Once you succeed, save your progress and go back to the mod. We strongly recommend that you have a copy of the vanilla version of the game installed on a separate device or an Android emulator, and that you stay logged into the same account on both devices. This will allow you to seamlessly switch between the two devices in case you encounter a game-breaking glitch. Recall the answer from question 4: You cannot contact Jam City to report glitches or else you'll be banned. No exceptions.
- If switching game versions doesn't fix the problem, you're just going to have to wait for Jam City to patch it in a future update.
- QUESTION 7: "The game just got updated. Where's the latest version of the mod?"
- ANSWER: BEGGING FOR UPDATES OR SPAMMING THE THREAD WILL **NOT** MAKE UPDATES RELEASE FASTER. IF SOMEONE ASKED YOU TO READ THIS FAQ BECAUSE YOU POSTED ABOUT UPDATING THE MOD IN THE THREAD, **YOU** ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
- Now that that's out of the way, you just have to be patient. G-bo is one of the site administrators and he's a very busy guy. He maintains a multitude of different hacks and mods for mobile games on this site. On top of that, updates get distributed to random users in waves in order to prevent game-breaking bugs from ruining the experience for everyone. If the mod hasn't been updated yet, it's probably because G-bo hasn't gotten access to the latest version of the .apk. Once he does, he'll take care of it. Go do something else in the meantime. Don't be like Luporoma85. He starts begging for updates as soon as they get announced. Nobody likes him.
- QUESTION 8: "Can you add <x> to the mod menu?"
- ANSWER: If it's not there, it's probably not there for a reason. To put it simply, there are a huge number of encrypted values in the game's code that are difficult to modify. If you need to do something specific, you can use a memory editor such as Game Guardian to do things like modifying your attribute EXP, giving yourself a specific number of energy/coins/gems/pages/books, etc. But it's a little tricky. Follow this guide on YouTube if you're interested: https://youtu.be/RlNmmOOOvMQ
- Note: While it is possible to use Game Guardian to skip the stars requirements for your lessons, it's such a long and drawn out process that it's basically not worth trying to hack. Just turn on the mod's infinite energy cheat and play through a couple of 8-hour study sessions. If you're paying attention, you can finish each one in 5 minutes or less. Boom. Lesson unlocked. I know it sucks and it's annoying, but that's literally the fastest way to do it.
- QUESTION 9: "I got banned, what do I do?"
- ANSWER: Make a new account, start over from scratch, and READ QUESTION 4. Unless your name is Sirstrawhat, Jam City doesn't unban cheaters. They clearly had enough proof to swing the hammer down upon you. Sign out of the Facebook account connected to your game, clear the game's cache and storage in your phone's settings, then you can start a new save file.
- QUESTION 10: "Why can't I buy items on the store with the gems cheat?"
- ANSWER: That one's a little tricky. Start by opening the modded game, but don't enable any cheats yet. Go to the store and attempt to buy something with gems, like energy. When you get the "Need More Gems?" pop-up, click on the X button in the corner and close the store. Open the cheat menu and enable the gems cheat. Finally, go back to the store and attempt to purchase some energy with gems. You will still get a "Missing Materials" pop-up, but just click "Buy Now" and you'll get your energy for free. Now you can buy anything else that the store sells for gems. This cheat doesn't work on anything that costs real-world money, obviously. This cheat also does not persist across sessions, so if you save and close the game, you'll have to redo these steps when you start playing again later.
- QUESTION 11: "What time does <x> event start/end?"
- ANSWER: If an event worth discussing is about to start or end, just read the most recent few pages of this thread - we'll probably have posted it a dozen times by now. If you need to know in general when events start or end, most of them follow different schedules. Full Marks and House Pride events (the ones you should NOT be playing during) almost always follow the same pattern:
- START: Monday, 9pm UTC (or 10pm UTC if the United States is not in Daylight Savings Time)
- END: Sunday, 9pm UTC (or 10pm UTC if the United States is not in Daylight Savings Time)
- Yes, you will need to figure out whether or not America is in DST and convert the UTC time to your local timezone. Use Google. It is your friend. It's also important to note that Jam City can trigger a SURPRISE FM/HP event any time they want. They will always end at the specified time on Sunday, but theoretically, it can begin at any time during the week. That's why you should always READ THE THREAD!
