- _____Thoughts on the show_____
- Neon Genesis Evangelion struck a terrifying, uncanny, perfect balance between confusing and engrossing. I had zero clue what was going on much of the time, but kept watching anyway. Speaking of which, I'm still confused by the ending(s). What the fuck happened there? Maybe it's best if I don't think too hard about it.
- The final Rebuild of Evangelion movie was supposed to land in America recently. THEN IT GOT DELAYED AGAIN! HAHA! Imagine being an Evangelion fan.
- _____About this arrangement_____
- Had thought about covering a piece from this soundtrack ever since early-mid 2020. The intro is an arrangement of the choral music that played during the 3.0+1.0 trailer. The rest of it has the structure of a jazz tune, where the head is lifted straight from "Next Episode" by Shiro Sagisu. I suck at drum soloing and improvising in general, but I really wanted to take 2 choruses on the kit.
- Fun fact: I accidentally deleted the video of me playing the drums for the first part of this rearrangement up until the drum solo. Oops. So to get a video of me playing the drums part, I pantomimed the drums video and synced my motions up with the sounds of what I'd played at first. It's a secret. Don't tell anyone. The video for the drum solo all the way until the end, though, is fully organic. So at least that's real.
- The piano part is partially improvised, partially composed beforehand. There's no way I'd be able to improvise the weird block chord strange harmony seventh ninth shit and make it sound good. The piano part I played to accompany the drum solo, though, was improvised. Hopefully it sounds OK.
- This remix took a lot longer to finalize than most of the other ones I've done. Probably because I'm still trying to figure out how to use my new mic and route my keyboard to my audio interface and apply effects and shape the sound and get it all to a place where I'm not horribly dissatisfied with my shitty playing.
- I have a habit of typing way too much nonsense in my description boxes, so I'm now throwing all my bullshit into a pastebin so it doesn't fill up the description on YouTube. Thanks for reading, I guess.
