Visael IX, the Lost King

A man born to commoners who fought and intrigued his way to the throne before his 30th birthday. His kingdom was relatively small, but it was proud, respected, and strong. Many a rebel and warmonger fell before King Visael's sword, and none of his enemies lived to tell the tale. But the enemy that would ultimately take Visael's power was Siterya, the girl of his (literal) dreams. Accounts and historians conflict on whether or not she was his sister thought to be dead since childhood, or his lost childhood friend, or even just a woman he had a long history with, but all of them agree that Siterya's return was enough to tempt the King's heart.

With her, Siterya brought distraction, disorder, and tales of the world beyond [KINGDOM]'s borders. Visael was seduced by the woman and her words, and before anyone sensible could stop him, he had gathered up the most formidable forces of his nation and its surrounding territories and commanded them to sail off into the horizon. He swore to his kingdom that he would return and marry Siterya when he did, and the riches he brought back would lead his nation to worldwide power and respect. Off King Visael went, and he never returned or was seen again.

...or was he? Legend says that the King was lost for years, watched his friends and comrades die, received grievous wounds, learned various lessons, lost a chance at godly immortality, and finally returned to his homeland... only to find that nothing was the same. More absurd legends speculate that he returned many years in the past, and that it was the vengeful specter of the Lost King that stole Siterya away in the first place... but everyone agrees that Visael IX was lost to time, the seas, and especially to himself.
