- You stated this was not for video editing, and the battery life was very important. So, the following list has those criteria as priorities.
- * Dell XPS 13 9360 or 9370
- ** Dell is selling both models currently, but with upgraded 8th gen processors
- ** 9370 is slimmer than last years, but embraces dongle life
- ** 9370 has better screens than last years, but the screens are already one of the best
- ** Don't buy the Linux version, it still has 7th gen intel
- ** Swap Killer Wireless with Intel card for better Linux support
- ** 1080p screen for battery life
- ** Non-upgradable RAM
- ** 9360 has full side sd card, 9370 only has micro-sd
- ** 9360 has slightly larger battery than 9370 (cause everything needs to be slimmer)
- Lenovo X270/X1 Carbon/T480[s]/
- * Dont buy x280, Lenovo decided to Macbook Air it, and removed all the features that made it great
- * RAM
- ** X1 Soldered on
- ** 480s 1 slot open
- ** 480 2 slots open
- ** 270 2 slots open
- * CPU
- ** Same except for 270 (last gen processors)
- * Drives
- ** Same
- * Ethernet
- ** X1 Dongle required, but it a standard wired ethernet so no USB bus conversion (and MAC address is on laptop)
- ** Both 480's and 270 have ethernet
- * Screen
- ** X1 Carbon has HDR 14 inch
- ** Both 480 14 inch screens are average, but not great
- ** 270 has 12.5 inch screen
- * Battery
- ** 57 Wh for X1 and 480s
- ** Dual battery for 480 and 270 (12+ hours easy)
- * X1 has micro-SD while all others have full size SD
