  1. The Biograph - Lobby
  2. The Biograph lobby is lit by bright LED bulbs shining briliantly from every angular wall sconce. The color immitates old, incandescent bulbs, but the lights are very bright, making the restored, art-deco theme shine, lit up like the art piece it seems to be. Brass floor lamps and potted plants add to the ambiance.
  3.
  4. Places here:
  5. 1: Pitch black sofas around to put your bottom onto.
  6. 2: A sign reading "Game Room" advertizes the arcade.
  7. 3: They have unisex bathrooms? How very progressive!
  8.
  9. The staff member on duty is dressed in reasonably period-appropriate attire for the roaring '20's. Whomever is on duty handles admissions, concessions, making change for the arcade, and buzzing people into the balcony, all from inside a reinforced ticket booth that still manages to look period.
  10. On the wall over the entryway to the Auditorium is a large ornate mirror with a brass frame which dominates the room. If you look closely there is a long jagged hairline crack down the center of the mirror.
  11. ((+view mirror for information if you have an issue with mirrors.))
  12. Large, black, double doors lead to the Auditorium. A dark, narrow, foreboding hallway leads to the restrooms and a store room. There is a red, velvet rope in front of a staircase that goes up to a landing then turns and continues out of sight. A sign on the rope reads, "Balcony Closed."

  24. Cen is loitering about at the Biograph lobby. He's in the game room, feeding quarters into one of the arcade games! Gauntlet, maybe!
  25.
  26. Susie walks down from the 'closed' balcony, taking a stroll around the theater lobby. It's hopping with people, at least as much as it ever is. Though the arcade isn't why most people come here, there are a few people in there, so she wanders in, watching some of the people play this or that.
  27.
  28. WIZARD IS ABOUT TO DIE! Oh, no! Cen furiously button-mashes, but ... to no avail. GAME OVER, MAN. GAME. OVER. Still it has been tremendous fun while it had lasted. The youth steps back and collects his thoughts and gathers his wits. Looking over a shoulder, he'll spy Susie and offer a friendly wave.
  29.
  30. "Hello," Susie says in a friendly manner. "I didn't take you for an arcade goer, but I suppose I really don't know exactly how old you are." She winks.
  31.
  32. "Not a lotta places still have the classic games," offers Cen. "This place, it's a treasure. Literally an oasis out here in the desert," he adds with a grin before dusting off his hands on his skinny jeans "I'm Cen," he offers extending a hand. "Mostly just passing through until I figure out a semi-permanent spot. I heard there may be some action out west in Chula Vista."
  33.
  34. "Maybe," Susie says, taking his hand and shaking it. "I'm not much of an authority on Chula Vista, myself. Never been there." She narrows her eyes slightly. "Haven't we met?"
  35.
  36. Cen offers up a shrug, the gesture nearly swallowed whole by the oversized hoodie that he wears on his lean, lanky frame. "Maybe. I blow through lotsa places."
  37.
  38. "Well, you look familiar at any rate," Susie says. "Have you been enjoying the theater so far?"
  39.
  40. Cen nods in the affirmative. "Totes. This place has gotta be the niftiest spot in town. You got any other recommendations?"
  41.
  42. "Follow me, if you can, and we can discuss such things." Susie heads off toward the balcony.
  43.
  44. Susie moves to The Biograph - Balcony
  45. Susie has left.
  46. You move to The Biograph - Balcony
  47.
  48. Cen nods, arching an eyebrow in curiosity, then he follows along.
  49.
  50. Susie is buzzed in, then Cen is separately. When they're in the balcony room, they are alone. "Now," Susie says, "tell me what you're looking for and we'll see if I can help you." The tone of her voice is perhaps just a little bit more suggestive than was expected.
  51.
  52. Cen takes a look around, taking in the change in environs, then looks back to Susie. "Freedom, man." His eyes lift up to the chandelier. "Freedom."
  53. "And a crew to run with," he appends, almost as an afterthought.
  54.
  55. "Well, I'm pretty free, and the Giovanni in the area seem pretty content to let me be that way. As for a crew--" she huffs a bit. "You'll have to forgive me. I'm older than I look. What exactly do you need a crew to run?"
  56.
  57. Cen smiles, "Yeah, I heard the Necromancers offer refuge from the Cam's boot on your neck out this way. But, ah. My folks and theirs haven't always seen eye to eye. So I was looking at any low-key spots in Cali proper. But for now, this seemed like the safest place to get my feet under me." A pause. "A crew - y'know? Pals to run with. A group to have fellowship with. A ... coterie?"
  58.
  59. "I see," she says, leaning on the large board-room table, crossing her ankles. "Well, you're free to stay here as long as low-key is your wish. If you need anything, including a new face, you come to me. I'm sure we can set something up."
  60.
  61. Cen reaches up with his hands, touching his face. "I haven't popped up on anyone's radar yet that I'd need that, I don't think," he mutters, brow furrowing. "But I appreciate the offer. I don't have much to offer in exchange, other than my solidarity and a bit of magic, but. If I can return the kindness, I will."
  62.
  63. Susie raises an eyebrow. "Magic?" she asks, intrigued, clearly.
  64.
  65. Cen nods, "I'ma necromancer, but not like he 'vanni," he shorthands their name. "I'm a palero. Mayombe, in particular. Some things, they are the same, but some? They are different."
  66.
  67. "I don't know what that means. Are you Kindred or ghoul, then? I'm doing my best to piece all this together in my mind."
  68.
  69. Cen arches an eyebrow and considers, then shakes his head. "Neither. I'm a, ah ... " A pause as he mulls the words over. "I guess revenant is as good a word as any." A shrug, the gesture disappearing into his oversized hoodie again. "But if'n you wanna be nomenclature-u accurate? Dhampir."
  70.
  71. "Dhampir?" Susie said. "A half-vampire? How does THAT work?" She shook her head. "Maybe I don't want to know." She takes a deep breath so she can say, "All I know is MY plumbing hasn't worked in a LONG time."
  72.
  73. Cen grins and nods. "Yeah, well. if that's a mndfuck, then try not to think about me being one of Samedi's brood, he snickers darkly. "Some of us, we get all the lucky breaks," offers the youth bittersweetly.
  74.
  75. "You're free, you said. You beholden to the Samedi? What I mean is...do you owe anyone anything? Allegiance? Boons? Back-taxes?"
  76.
  77. Cen shakes his head, "Only by the thinnest of blood. But them's my 'folk' such as it were. The Samedi have a code, mutual aid, that sorta thing. But nothing formal - no bonds of blood, that sorta claptrap. We value our freedom."
  78.
  79. "That's good," Susie says with a nod. "I definitely don't want anyone breaking down my door to get you back for whatever reason. Still, if you want some sculpting done--svelt up your muscles, get rid of excess fat, bigger dick, sex change, whatever your little heart desires--you come see me. As someone who can make his own decisions, you can actually say yea or nay to that, unlike some I've talked to."
  80.
  81. Cen grins and nods, "No one wants some Samedi enforcer showing up at their door, yeah. I getchu. No worries there."
  82.
  83. "So ... folks leave you be here in Laughlin? And you get along with the 'vanni well enough? No taxes or anything?" Cen looks a Susie thoughtfully.
  84.
  85. "None so far," she says. "Everyone's been pretty nice to me, overall. You shouldn't have any problems, yourself."
