- Alright, I don't usually write in greentext, but I think that'll suit this one (partially because I have no idea where I'm going with this):
- >Vaggie knows that she isn't perfect; that she doesn't deserve Charlie
- >sometimes she can't believe that this--that certain sparkle of Charlie's eyes, the extra warmth to her fang-toothed grin are meant for her, and her alone--real
- >Charlie is too good for this place; it's sometimes hard to remember who her parents are
- >Charlie is a better person than anyone else Vaggie has ever met, in this life or the previous one
- >better than the sanctimonious bastards who stood by their pulpits and watched Vaggie and the others suffer with their judgemental, damning eyes and curled lips
- >the dark rage that burns in her heart is an old friend, and she's terrified of Charlie finding out about it
- >she's terrified of Charlie experiencing half of the things she had
- >it's bad enough that Charlie can guess some of the thoughts that run in her head; the ones she's ashamed of
- "It isn't about what you deserve, Vaggie! That's not how relationships work, and ours won't if you can't let go of that idea!"
- >Vaggie has never had a healthy relationship before, and she wants so badly for this to work; to last
- >Charlie makes her want to be a better person, to do good, to be strong
- >and so she tries to anticipate Charlie's needs; to be a sounding board for her ideas, her shelter during the storm, the voice of reason
- >sometimes it feels like she's controlling Charlie; like she's taken the place of her captors in life
- >and that idea is...
- >abhorrent is too weak a word
- >but if Charlie falls asleep somewhere she shouldn't; Vaggie'll be there to carry her off to bed
- >if her mother continues to ignore Charlie's calls; Vaggie'll be there to hold her
- >if Lucifer himself if the one threatening Charlie, or making her cry; Vaggie will threaten him all the same
- >Charlie is the light around which Vaggie's life revolves; for which she can never repay her
- -
- Actually, let's do Charlie's side, too:
- >Charlie never intended for this to happen
- >Vaggie had been an employee that had become a friend that had become the best of friends
- >she was never meant to be more than that
- >and then, well, things had happened (read: Charlie's ex-boyfriend happened), and there'd been a lot of messy tears, and snot, and, well...
- >Vaggie had held her through all of it, exuding the ferocious strength Charlie had noticed shortly into their acquaintance, but never once letting it compromise the tenderness with which she soothed
- >Charlie had breathed her in, something light and woodsy and wild, and had acted with impulse:
- >she'd pressed her mouth to the thrum of Vaggie's pulse, tangled her hand into the fall of her hair, and shoved
- "C-Charlie?"
- >Vaggie had stared up at her with a wide eye, torn somewhere between hesitance and wonder
- >Charlie had kissed her into silence, and... well
- >in the morning Charlie had lay there, one arm over her eyes and heart in her throat, feeling like the worst person in all of existence
- >she'd always known that Vaggie was beautiful; that her tough exterior hid something that was warm and fundamentally good
- >something vulnerable and eager to trust
- >Vaggie was strong, but she was brittle, and Charlie didn't want to break her
- >Vaggie would never recover if Charlie treated this like it was nothing
- >and Vaggie meant too much to her to risk a fling; she'd failed at everything she'd ever tried, and Charlie was terrified of failing at this
- >Vaggie deserved so much better than Charlie; Charlie was the worst possible thing that could have happened to her and Vaggie didn't deserve to be drawn even deeper into her drama and neuroses
- >she had lived for a long time without Vaggie, bt she would never, ever forgive herself if she broke her best friend beyond repair
- >she had seen relationships succeed on so much less
- >she would cherish every day, and only hope that Vaggie would forgive her when it was over
