Rachelle backstory

Background:
Born a member of the merchant class, Rachelle Votre-Silve came of age during the last days of the standing Llaelese nation. After Khador invaded, she and her parents joined the resistance, where they determined she had the Gift. Training under a mistress, she developed the skills to become a covert gunmage, working guerrilla strikes against the occupiers for a few months. After she narrowly escaped a botched assassination attempt, she saw the writing on the wall, and decided it was easier to sell her skill for money than sell her blood for a misguided cause.

She tried to sneak out of Llael, headed toward Ios, before she noticed she'd picked up a tail. She ducked into a bar situated near the border, pulled a hat down over her eyes, and sat at the bar, next to a random Iosan. Naturally, that's precisely when the patrol caught up and invaded the bar, and after publicly accusing the poor Iosan of working with her to facilitate Rachelle's raids, the two cut down the patrol and escaped.

It was about then that they decided to band together, heading down to Ternon Crag to find work and a new life, one where nobody cared about where you came from, so long as you had the skills to earn your coin.
