"Well, if I'm studying all of this correctly, the thing on my head is a Hedron."

"Shush, you, that's actually what they're called. Anyways, these things... well, you've seen the Helvault? They're not dissimilar. I think the Helvault works on the same principle, except it takes sentient beings and drains them to power itself."
>"Actually, that is clever. Pity we didn't have it to deal with Thailog's gambit."
"Imprisoning someone there is absolute hell. Hence I haven't used it yet. But... if a hedron's power is focused OUTWARD instead of inward..."
>"Keeping anything from getting in?"
"Into this plane of existence. Which... if this place is adjacent to the Dimension of Pain-"

"OH HELL N- yep, it's still there."

"If I open a portal to anywhere else, I run into the space between spaces. Which, if I go into it, will tear me apart."

"So I think I'm going to spend some time studying these things. Wonder if I can weaponize the thing in my head, maybe throw it on a staff... hey, there's an army coming this way marching toward that storm, I wonder what they're on about?"
>"Let's go find out, shall we?"

And so I was sort-of-drafted into the war against the Outsiders, a couple of years in. While I was never quite given the reins, I proved my worth on their side - it turns out that, oddly enough, Fiendfyre is NOT the counter-Charm to a multidimensional creature; however, Dimensional Slash is. Well, not a counter-Charm, but it did actual and lasting damage to the monstrosities they called Eldrazi.

Studying the Hedron network gave me insights as to the stone embedded in my forehead and vice versa, and in time, I was indeed able to remove it and mount it on a staff as a weapon of sorts. After repairing the failing Hedron network, that is - it wasn't fully replaced, just augmented, like upgrading a network. And though my powers grew weaker leading up to this, Demona was able to aid me - in the end, the damn thing blew my head up when it came off, but at least it DID come off with the ridiculous amount of mana channeled into it.

And besides, that's not the first time my head's exploded lately.
