  1. It turns out that the day after, you save not only one, but two whole worlds, as a chosen hero of destiny is, well, remarkably average. The sun, always a stern giant ball of fire, still mercilessly finds its way through the blinds to assault your eyes and the birds; ignorant of your great deed, still start singing much too early. Thankfully this particular hero of destiny went to bed early and got a full night’s sleep.
  2.
  3. Kris disturbed from his slumber drags himself up and rubs his eyes turning to look out the window; he briefly considers what time it is. Squinting at the sun peeking through the blinds he quickly gives up on taxing his brain this early in the morning. The young boy sat there quietly for a few minutes; before finally committing to being awake. Shifting his legs over the side of his bed he slides off with practiced ease. Clad in no shirt and just his jammies Kris shuffled over to his drawer and pulls out fresh clothes. Stifling a yawn he leaves his room and shambles downstairs not fully awake.
  4.
  5. His fresh clothes were dragged along the floor and down the stairs all the way to the bathroom. Whereupon he enters lazily peeling off his pajamas and turning on the shower. Without waiting for the water to warm-up the young boy steps inside and draws the curtain. The water causes to Kris shiver as it cascades onto his body. Placing his hands against the wall his thoughts turn to yesterday. Did he and another student (a big and strong student) really stumble onto another world? And not, just another world, but a world in which they together were the prophesied heroes of destiny?
  6.
  7. Was everything that happened in that “dark world” real?
  8.
  9. ...
  10.
  11. Did he really save their world and his own?
  12.
  13. ...
  14.
  15. ... Did he really make friends?
  16.
  17. ...
  18.
  19. It’s not until Kris hears the concerned voice of his mother that he snap out of the daze that had descend on him. He strains his ears against the running water spewing from the shower to hear his mom muffled through the door.
  20.
  21. “Kris...are you okay in there?” There is a few seconds of silence before she rasps on the door. “You’ve been in there for a while now.” Her voice sounds concerned and it is clear she has been here for a bit.
  22.
  23. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts Kris then wraps his arms around himself. Still unsure about the truth of what happened yesterday he heaves a sigh. The pleasant warmth of the now heated waters soothes his mind and body. His mind starts to drift again before his mother once again knocks him back to reality.
  24.
  25. “Um, Kris could you please say...”
  26.
  27. Before she could finish Kris pokes his head through the shower curtain and answers.
  28.
  29. “Oh! That’s good…” Having heard her son’s voice all concern from her voice drains and she audibly perks up. “I’m glad you’re up early for once young man… We still have time before school I’d like to hear about your new friend.”
  30.
  31. Deciding that if what happened yesterday really occurred or not does not matter yet; Kris sets to cleaning himself. Walking out of the shower squeaky clean and in fresh clothes; the former (?) hero of destiny moves to the kitchen where a plate stacked high with food has been placed. Toriel having also woken up early is already seated at the table. Near her on is a plate with a few crumbs along with a fork and knife. Having her least furry, but no less loved son sit at his usual spot causes her to fold her newspaper and beams down at him.
  32.
  33. “I made your favorite,” She says while gesturing to the large stack of pancakes, bacon, and eggs all arranged in a smiling face, “now tell me about your new friend.”
  34.
  35. Picking up a fork Kris pushes the food around his plate before looking up to his mother waiting patiently. Upon making eye contact she smiles and nods at him to start. Quickly looking back down it takes a few more seconds of moving food around before he starts. Throughout his, brief, explanation Toriel kept quiet only giving an encouraging “mhm” or “Oh, really?” when necessary. Kris left out most of the outlandish details which made his speech exceptionally brief, but it was the most heartfelt and longest Toriel had heard him in years. Unknown to Kris, but noticed by his mom, throughout his whole speech a faint smile could be seen on his face.
  36.
  37. Once Kris was finished talking his fluffy goat mother takes his hand and gives him a warm squeeze. Turning his gaze from the food, no longer recognizing as a face, towards the larger hand encompassing his own. It took Kris a few seconds of staring at his mother’s paw before squeezing it in return and looking up at his mom. Her wide smile grows even wider as Kris looks up at her. Together they stay holding each other’s hand each enjoying the others company as a family. They linger for a short time until Toriel removes her hand and starts to speak.
  38.
  39. “Kris I’m proud of you and I hope to meet your new friend sometime soon, but,” shifting her unconsciously to her teacher voice she wags a finger at him, “make sure to eat you breakfast; it is the most important meal of the day.” With that she returns to her newspaper humming a happy tone. With nothing left to say the adolescent boy began to eat and quickly scarfed it all down. Upon finishing his plate it gets removed and another one, as stacked as the first, is placed in front of him. Toriel places the dishes in the sink and before returning to the table. Mother and son spend a quiet morning enjoying each other’s company until it is time to go to school. The first in a long time.
  40.
  41. The ride to school was short and as uneventful as always. Thankfully for the juvenile boy the ritual of holding hands and hugging is also short. Mother and son, due to both waking up on time for once, arrived early enough that none of Kris’s classmates were there. With one last wave Toriel leaves her son outside to prepare for her class today.
  42.
  43. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  44.
  45. He looks to left, and then to right, and seeing no large purple delinquent anywhere mulls on what to do. Susie is definitely not the kind of student to come early, and this is the main entrance so Kris decides the best course of action is to sit on the steps and wait. Soon a trickle of students and teachers becomes a flood and then diminishes as it gets closer to the start of school. The first person who enters than knows Kris is his childhood acquaintance Noelle. When she first notices that Kris is sitting on the steps she stops and shuffles in place a bit before her steeling herself.
  46.
  47. “H-hey Kris good morning” she says meekly walking towards the steps. Kris’s prompt ‘good morning’ puts her at ease as her nervous expressions melts to a friendly smile. “I’m glad you’re here early for once. Um… I have to go work on my project, but see you in class.” She waves goodbye as she walks into class.
  48.
  49. The next person that Kris recognizes is Alphy’s who just shuffles past him nervous laughing her way up the all the way into school.
  50.
  51. Then Monster-not-quite-a-kid-but-not-yet-a-man and Snowy who upon seeing Kirs run up to him. Neither having arms they both greet him with a wide smiles and animated nodding.
  52.
  53. “Hey, hey Kris good to see your still alive and even early for once!”
  54.
  55. “Yeah we were sure you were iced…hehe” Snowy starts cackling as if his bad pun was the loftiest height of comedy. Monsterkid gives a nonplussed glance towards his avian companion obviously used to his penchant for punnery. Kris in response matches their greetings.
  56.
  57. “Oh sorry Kris, we can’t stay and chat we’ve got a meeting with Alphys to help us on our projcet. See you in class!” Together they both give one more head salute before entering into school.
  58.
  59. Taking a look at his wrist Kris realizes he has never worn a watch in his life, but thinks that he must have been sitting her for almost twenty minutes. As he turns his head up he finds himself snout to face with a familiar purple monster.
  60.
  61. “Hey-a freak,” crouched in front of Kris is his fellow chosen hero of destiny and local school hooligan, Susie. Sporting a toothy grin she looks down at the human in front of her apparently unconcerned with her how close they are. The sudden purple protrusion in front of him cause him the flinch backwards. Upon realizing just who it is his face starts to heat up. Not paying attention to Kris reddening face she claps him hard on the back.
  62.
  63. “Are you ready to go back?” Not giving him a chance to answer she pulls him into a standing position. “Of course you are let’s go.” Kris much smaller than his monster classmate gets hauled like a sack of potatoes across the school to the supply closet. Many students’ give looks of concern as the only human in town gets dragged down the hall, but no one intervenes. Arriving at their destination Susie drops Kris to the floor.
  64.
  65. Together the two saviors of dark world stand in the hallway facing the completely ordinary looking door to the supply closet. Susie looking at the door in front of her puffs up cracking a wide toothy grin obviously thinking about her exploits and how awesome she is. Turning to Kris her smirk quickly fades. The longer she looks at him the more her expression turns into a grimace. When he looks up at her she turns away from him.
  66.
  67. Her gaze turns to the floor and she crosses her arms. Kris tilts his head confused by her sudden change in demeanor. Unknown to Kris, he, was the source of Susie’s inner turmoil. She should feel great; she was a badass hero who went on a rad adventure. Tons of cool things happened like: smashing those creepy puzzlemen, eating food, chucking Ralsei at that monster, or eating stump food. Well if she was being honest the best part of their whole adventure was definitely making three friends.
  68.
  69. That’s why she felt bad wasn’t it. Why did she, rude and crude Susie, deserve friends? Especially Kris…
  70.
  71. He was willing to protect her. Even after she threatened to eat his whole face. She couldn’t understand why after that he would still be willing to put up with her. That’s when it hit her she’d just apologize. Susie’s Cheshire smirk return as she finally meets Kris’ eyes.
  72.
  73. “Hey, before we go back I gotta say something,” the human’s only response is to continue starting at her. “L-look, I have to get this off my chest.” She takes a deep breath before starting.
  74.
  75. “Kris. I’m sorry for hitting you and I’m sorry for saying I’d eat your face. Okay?” Her words come out fast and she almost trips over them. Kris continues to stare at her eyes hidden by his bangs. Unable to contend with his unmoving face she starts babbling again.
  76.
  77. “I-I know that was way uncool of me and like, I get if you don’t want to be friends with me…but I-” She stops as Kris grabs her hand and squeezes it.
  78.
  79. “Are you sure? I mean do,” her words are cut off when Kris smiles at and her and nods. Ripping her hand away from his she scratches the back of her head.
  80.
  81. “Heh, well of course w-we’re friends now.” Grinning down at her now, confirmed, friend Susie slugs him in the shoulder. In a friendly way. Kris lets out a small chuckle and rubs his shoulder.
  82.
  83. “Well now that, that’s, settled we can go see Ralsei and Lancer!”
