  1. It was through scenery like this that the saucer flew, in as straight a line as any that could be drawn using a ruler, and looking as ever like a speeding, metallic fava bean. Its destination was, of course, the summit. The grass and trees below were buffeted about by displaced wind as the craft shot past. It skimmed the tallest treetops, and every now and then it would crash straight through an outstretched branch.
  2. ...
  3.
  4. “Oh, damn it all...it's the enemy!” cried EVE, her voice suddenly ringing out through the craft. “We failed to evade them. There is a seventy percent chance that we'll be hit!”
  5. “Please don't say it like it's a weather report or something...”
  6. “Uwaaugh! Everyone, hang on!”
  7. Ana looked up at the monitor in a panic. Her gaze was met by the glare of a huge, despicable-looking black and blue robot, and she could see dozens of missiles heading straight for them, slithering through the sky like snakes.
  8. THUDDD!
  9. “Gah!”
  10. “Yaaaiiee!”
  11. With that dull sound, there came a feeling as if the floor had suddenly dropped out from beneath them. Ana's hair stood on end, and a cold chill ran down her spine. One minute there was a sensation of rising so suddenly that it made her ears go funny and pressed her body down into her seat, the next minute the saucer twisted and turned until they were upside-down. She was bumping into things left and right and had no doubt she would end up covered in bruises. It was just like a high-thrills roller coaster ride...except that this ride showed no signs of stopping.
  12. The monitor before them relayed a seemingly random and rapidly changing series of images. The sky, the mountain, the forest...and every now and then they'd catch a glimpse of something that looked like a runway, something that looked like a very shiny tower, and some sort of dome-shaped structure. That must be the enemy base! Ana thought, but the changing scenes were dizzying and went by so quickly that she could only see a little bit of each one, and if she tried to focus on any single thing, it made her feel tipsy.
  13. ...
  14.
  15. Ana became aware of the smell of something burning. The saucer appeared to be reaching the last of its strength, and the ground, which they could see through the monitor, seemed to be getting way too close for comfort. This time, for real, at last, finally, without exaggeration, and with no fooling around, it would surely be the end for them.
  16. ...
  17.
  18. “Hey...so...in case you guys forgot? This saucer is crashing.”
  19. “So it is.”
  20. “So, we should probably get out.”
  21. “Yeah, we probably should.”
  22. “So, where were those life vests again?”
  23. “Like she said before, they're under the se–”
  24. CRACK-KA-BOOOOM!
  25. And with that...the saucer crashed.
  26.
  27. In the end, those life vests and oxygen masks weren't very helpful at all. Even that brutal roller coaster-like sensation from before felt like being rocked gently in a cradle compared to the confusing chaos that followed as the saucer bounced and rolled across the ground, eventually falling to pieces and leaving Ana half fainted and half swooned with absolutely no idea what had just happened.
  28. ...
  29.
  30. Through the gap torn in the ceiling, she thought she could see two figures high in the sky – one blue, and one silver, whirling fiercely around one another. Black smoke was billowing out of one of them. Was it EVE? ...Then she really was fighting, after all – and standing up against that terrifying robot all on her own was definitely admirable.
