  13.
  14. "Well, I certainly see that."
  15.
  16. >Do you now?
  17.
  18. "Oh yes, this is most certainly the work of childhood whimsy!"
  19.
  20. >Oh... good?
  21.
  22. "Hmmm... I like it!"
  23.
  24. >Ya' do!?
  25.
  26. "Yes! Quite an amazing character here Applebloom has drawn. She looks a bit plain, perhaps, but other than that quite nice!"
  27.
  28. >Plain? But... but she's gotta saddle.
  29.
  30. "Yes, and? Nothings on the saddle."
  31.
  32. >But that would get in the way of-

  42. "Oh, by the way, I'm obviously not foo-"
  43.
  44. >Hey, Celly? You still got that sore part in the back of yer' head?
  45.
  46. "The one from when I got drunk? Actually, yes! Thank you for your concern, not supposing I can get a day off-"
  47.
  48. WHUNK!
  49.
  50. THUMP!
  51.
  52. >Sorry, Celly, it's for mah' own good. This is all a bad dream... and Chrysalis did it.

  65.
  66. "In case of total nuclear annihilation. We have to prepare for the future, Applejack! Speaking of which, have you and Spike registered you space in the Stables?"

  237. >"What in tarnation!?"
  238.
  239. >Suddenly Celestia let's out a happy sigh of relief.
  240. >Applejack can only watch as she seems to shrink and settle into the now twice as big chair with a smile.
  241. >That wasn't important as the sheer weight of something hanging off her head drew her attention.
  242. >What in the pits of Tarterous was it?!
  243.
  244. "Oh that would be the sun Applejack."
  245.
  246. >"Pardon?"

  249. >When did it start glowing?
  250.
  251. "Well since you keep coming to me about all my mistakes I figured you could walk a mile in my horseshoes."
  252.
  253. >"And the..ngh..fact that Ah already do yer paperwerk?"
  254.
  255. >The alicorn simply waves a hoof at the mare.
  256.
  257. "Why do you think I have a beucracy? I had them handle it before you came along, you just happened to make the whole system run smoother. By the way if you don't start moving it soon the ponies will start to notice."
  258.
  259. >"Wh-what?"
  260.
  261. "Move the sun, otherwise it will stay noon all day long."
  262.
  263. >"N-no..."
  264.
  265. "Come on now, surely a strong earth mare like yourself can do it."
  266.
  267. >"Darn it Tia, Ah don't know how!"
  268.
  269. >Head bowed again Applejack strains at the unfamilier feeling that hanged off the tip of her horn.
  270. >Trying to keep her head up to even look at Celestia was a burden that sent tremors through her frame.
  271. >Meanwhile the now pink maned mare sighes.
  272.
  273. "Fine, fine I'll help you get started."
  274. >Horn glowing the pressure starts to ease from Applejacks neck.
  275.
  276. "Now all you need to do is not true to physically shove it, just guide it."
  277.
  278. >"How?"
  279.
  280. "You just give it a tug, just pretend instead of a large flaming mass of hydrogen gas in the void of space, that it's a normal coffee mug you're trying to drink."
  281.
  282. >Grinding her teeth Applejack glares at Celestia.
  283.
  284. "Ohoh, not so easy now is it?"
  285.
  286. >"Ah do-"
  287.
  288. "Stop being stubborn about doing it, and just do it!"
  289.
  290. >Shocked at Celestia's tone the applemare huffs before closing her eyes.
  291. >Feeling the sheer weight of this thing hanging on her neck and horn the mare tries to pull on the tangible feeling before her.
  292. >It's like trying to move a boulder buried in the ground with only a hoof shovel.
  293. >This is hopeless...
  294. >Before she can despair however Applejack remembers something from her time on the farm.
  295. >"Big Mac how are we gonna raise the barn? Ah can't push the frame up like that."
  296. [Easy enough lil sister, see that wheel up there?]
  297. >"Wazzat?"
  298. [It's a pully, its gonna let us pull this here frame up, it's just a matter of leverage, now come on.]
  299. >"Okay!"
  300.
  301. >Leverage...
  302. >Stretching the rope of her mind the applemare can feel the sun stay in place.
  303. "Any day now Applejack."
  304. >"Ah'm workin' on it..."
  305. >She had her rope, but what to use as a pully...
  306. >Wait, on the edge of her perception...a cool green and blue feeling.
  307. >Of course!
  308. >Grinning now Applejack raises her head high and with a mighty tug the world went white.
  309.
  310. >"Wh-what happened?"
  311. "Well I see you finally figured it out."
  312. >"What?"
  313. "Look at yourself."
  314. >Looking down Applejack feels her head sway.
  315. >"Whoa nelly...why am I so high up?"
  316. >Silken strands of yellow danced past her eyes and Applejack holds her hoof up to it finding the etheral mane slip through her hooves.
  317. >"How?"
  318. "You figured out how to move the sun didn't you?"
  319. >"Sure as sugar, I just needed a pully."

And then there's a whole bunch'a buildings on the outer rim. What, were they storage units for cake?... Nevermind, that's possible. Fer' that matter, where did they live if they didn't live here? Did the ponies live inside the castle walls? You'd think they at least were in this here ring, wouldn't ya'? But they still had tents or whatever in mah Granny's time, and that was up where Canterlot eventually went. Why the heck did they leave? They had this massive, already done structure! This is just a waste of a lot of really hard work!... AND WHERE THE HECK DID CELESTIA AND LUNA COME FROM!? Why ain't this never come up before!?

  349.
  350. '...Listen carefully, you may not know this, but ICE MELTS! Put it in the freezer, so that it doesn't melt! Also why are you sending it to your house!? It's going to melt on the way to Pinkie if you try to send it and there's nothing to keep it cold, you idiot!'

  355.
  356. "Morning Joe says, I love cheese, but my mom keeps leaving cheese on this weird device. Every time I reach for it, it snaps at me and hurts my hoof. Why do you think she's using this torture device on me?"

  371. ~~~~
  372.
  373. The family room, normally a place of whimsy and fun, was surprisingly cool. Shining Armor had gone off to get the movie, stating that they needed to all relax and calm down a bit, and nobody had the heart to disagree. While he was off, the others were doing their own thing. Cadence and Two the food, Forty Two the pillows and Mane-Iac and Spitfire were just waiting about. That, unfortunately, left only two on the couch. Two sitting there on that comfy crystal couch, the most unlikely pair of the bunch, waiting.
  374.
  375. >...So, do you have a plan?
  376.
  377. "Don't know what you mean."
  378.
  379. >In case they try to... you know, kick Cadence out.
  380.
  381. "Now, why would you wonder something like that? Surely they won't."

  386.
  387. >...just.. just tell me you've got a plan. I don't even care if you don't, I just need to know.

  389. "...Considering my plans usually stumble at the last hurdle, you sure you want that?"
  390.
  391. >Yes.

  398.
  399. >...good.
  400.
  401. It was strange, that something like that from her of all changelings could do anything at all.
  402.
  403. But, true to her word, she relaxed immeasurably following this, seeming to be worry free when they rest returned, and the movie came in. Eighteen, as strange as it sounded, seemed at ease, just knowing.
  404.
  405. "...I'm prepared."
  406.
  407. She would have to put that faith to use sometime.

  419. ~~~~~~~
  420.
  421. A broken tile fell from the cracked roofing the princess had left in her wake, crumbling to the ground and shattering on impact.
  422.
  423. This, it seemed, was what everyone needed to snap out of their trance.
  424.
  425. >Well, that was something.
  426.
  427. To remember that there was, indeed, a much, much more powerful being right in front of them, and no longer anyone even remotely close to her level remaining.
  428.
  429. So when those eyes of fire turned back to the lings and guards huddled together, very little was felt besides a constricting, pressing fear.
  430.
  431. >Are you ready to leave, or am I going to make you?
  432.
  433. "MOTHER!"
  434.
  435. Again, her daughter moved herself in front of the Titan, to put herself closer to the mass of chitin hidden behind a notably smaller wall of gold covered bodies. She glared, a stunning sight that left most reeling in shock that they would ever see such as that in their lifetime.
  436.
  437. Yet even that shock proved to be nothing in compared to what shot through them when the Titan shifted backwards, just a bit.
  438.
  439. >I was just going to grab them, I wouldn't have broken them.
  440.
  441. "You never mean to break them!"
  442.
  443. Nobody around them knew what to think anymore, their minds had gone blank. Completely broken when they saw the massive beast wince and turn her eyes away from the much smaller thing.
  444.
  445. >Fine, then you make them. This was your idea.
  446.
  447. "Thank you!"
  448.
  449. Back again she turned, once more her attention fully on the guard and the lings behind them.
  450.
  451. Or, more specifically, the two unicorns standing in her way, while all the others shuffled ever so subtly to the side. One of whom, the captain of the guard. The other, the 'student' of the princess herself, even if from that rant it seemed it was not a favored student. The changeling marched forwards, without any fear present despite the capabilities of both, and the fact she remained surrounded on all side by an endless mob.
  452.
  453. "I'm going to take them back to the Empire now."
  454.
  455. With just as little fear on his face, the white stallion took only a single step forwards, remaining locked with his eyes to hers.
  456.
  457. 'No, you're not.'
  458.
  459. "I'm not asking, I'm giving you a chance to move by yourself."
  460.
  461. 'And if I don't?'
  462.
  463. "I'll make you move."
  464.
  465. Pointedly, she looked up to her horn.
  466.
  467. 'Threatening an officer is a jailable offense.'
  468.
  469. "So is forming an angry mob. Going to have enough space?"
  470.
  471. He twitched, yet he did not move back.
  472.
  473. (We can handle this.)
  474.
  475. Instead, another moved forwards. The yellow, barely alive being, who nonetheless had a fire about her. A power to her, from skill or from magic.
  476.
  477. "No, you clearly can't."
  478.
  479. Neither of which swayed the sickly looking ling.
  480.
  481. 'I think we've handled it pretty well up to this point.'
  482.
  483. "By that you mean you stood around and did nothing while the mob got bigger. What, exactly were you planning to do if they just started throwing stuff?"
  484.
  485. (Shield spell, pretty basic actually.)
  486.
  487. "Uh huh. And that would stop them?"
  488.
  489. (Hold them off.)
  490.
  491. "Until what?"
  492.
  493. Finally, something that made them break off their endless double stare, and share a look with each other.
  494.
  495. 'Until the princess decided what to do.'
  496.
  497. "Well, she left, and said we decide. This is my choice, we leave."
  498.
  499. ~YEAH!~
  500.
  501. ~Good! That's very good!~
  502.
  503. ~Please take the giant thing away!~
  504.
  505. The Titan snapped her teeth in that one's direction, smirking again when they broke off into a run.
  506.
  507. 'Your mother isn't helping.'
  508.
  509. "Really? Looks like she's the one holding the crowd back."
  510.
  511. (You do realize a giant airship just flew over Canterlot, right? You might be bringing them into danger.)
  512.
  513. "Through danger, you mean. And I don't know if you were filled in, but airships? Not a problem for my mom. Even war airships, which that one certainly wasn't. Push comes to shove, we'll take the long way, she can carry all of us. But here? Here is already danger, and I know about it."
  514.
  515. (Thirteen, stop it. We need to stay put until the princess comes back-)
  516.
  517. "She's not coming back!"
  518.
  519. The screech was as sudden as it was piercing. Loud and straight through their skulls, like a bullet.
  520.
  521. "She isn't going to just turn around, come down here with all the answers and fix everything, okay!? She ran off because she couldn't handle this! She couldn't protect them like she said she would! Well, I can! And if I can't, she can! I'm handling this right now, I'm taking them home, and you can't stop me! Move!"
  522.
  523. 'No.'
  524.
  525. "I... said...'
  526.
  527. He went still, sudden as it was horrifying, as her horn glowed.
  528.
  529. The gasps of terror that sunk through the crowd rocked them down to their core as, ever so slightly, he looked to move.
  530.
  531. But he didn't.
  532.
  533. 'Well?'
  534.
  535. He remained, looking cautious, but otherwise unmoved.
  536.
  537. "Wha-"
  538.
  539. >Daughter, if you want intimidation, ask me. Not to say you're not strengthening, I'm just much more effective.
  540.
  541. The crowds attention returned to the monstrous being, stunned they had ever left, and what they found nearly made them scream and flee.
  542.
  543. Chitania, her eyes alight with magic and her horn burning like fire as her changeling power positively poured from it. She looked to them all with strained, red eyes that made her look unto a thing of pure evil, a thing of nightmares and nothing less.
  544.
  545. "MOM STOP!"
  546.
  547. A thing that left, in an instant, when her daughter asked it to be.
  548.
  549. >Oh, fine...
  550.
  551. She only looked a little disappointed.
  552.
  553. (Your mother is causing problems. Why don't you take her and leave?)
  554.
  555. She shot forwards, brushing past the mare who's magic was charged and ready and closing the distance until she could poke the stallion right in the chest.
  556.
  557. "I'll be happy to with my Hive, buddy! Right guys!?"
  558.
  559. The lings jumped, reacting to being acknowledged for the first time, and even stranger to be asked their opinion on something.
  560.
  561. {Uh...}
  562.
  563. [Hey! Yeah! Why don't we just ask the lings if they want to go?]
  564.
  565. [That... actually seems like a good idea, let them pick!]
  566.
  567. ~I'm fine with that so long as they pick 'leave'!~
  568.
  569. Panic went through both stallion and mare as they looked back, already knowing the response.
  570.
  571. {Well... I mean, she did leave us.}
  572.
  573. {Yeah, but I don't want to make it seem like we're joining up with Chitania! We're not! She's not our Queen!}
  574.
  575. {Not our Queen!}
  576.
  577. {Buuuuut it's Thirteen who is asking us to go with her, and she's a sister.}
  578.
  579. {She is one of us, so at least that makes sense. But what if she's being mind controlled?}
  580.
  581. {...isn't... isn't Chitania really crappy at that?}
  582.
  583. {Point... I dunno, wanna just bail?}
  584.
  585. {Well I sure as love don't want to stick in the middle of the fucking mob anymore!}
  586.
  587. {You guys are scary!}
  588.
  589. ~US!?~
  590.
  591. {...She's not coming back, is she?}
  592.
  593. They didn't know which one of them had said it, but it didn't make it any easier when not a one of them could tell them otherwise.
  594.
  595. {...Bail.}
  596.
  597. {Yeah, let's just go back, they don't want us here.}
  598.
  599. {This whole idea was stupid.}
  600.
  601. 'Guys...'
  602.
  603. He couldn't keep the look off his face, the defeated slump as he watched his guards part without orders to let them through. He watched them, every one, as they started to move.
  604.
  605. '...They are still under my supervision, I can-'
  606.
  607. He hadn't even seen her move, hadn't had any time to react or blink, before a chitnous hooftip as sharp as it was thick pressed itself to his chest, and the muscles beneath it tensed. He looked up, to a fanged maw snarling in anger, and the words died.
  608.
  609. >You can stay quiet, or I'll send you back to Canterlot, express ways.
  610.
  611. He wanted to argue, wanted to fight her even. All of his past experiences told him to fight, and battle.
  612.
  613. The only thing that stopped him was the fact he knew it would make all of this worse. It would be the last straw, and the real battle would begin.
  614.
  615. One he, and all of Ponyville, would probably lose.
  616.
  617. "Come on, guys. Let's go."
  618.
  619. They walked, slowly and as defeated as Pommel looked now, towards the Queen that would protect them. The Queen that looked ready to destroy any who got even close, not that any of the mob though of such. They would be taken off, they would be protected, they would likely never return. It was over.
  620.
  621. They all knew it was over.
  622.
  623. (You can't leave yet.)
  624.
  625. Or, at least, almost all of them.
  626.
  627. "Yes, I can. And if you have a problem with it, I'll tell my mother that holding someone against their will is grounds for self defense."
  628.
  629. >I heard that.
  630.
  631. (No no, you misunderstand, you can't go yet.)
  632.
  633. She stepped forwards, a thoughtful, yet utterly determined look on her face.
  634.
  635. "And why not?"
  636.
  637. It struck the student, with all the force that even Chitania could not be capable of.
  638.
  639. Inspiration.
  640.
  641. (Because you're missing someone.)
  642.
  643. "Forty One is over there, I made sure she stayed put."
  644.
  645. Pointedly, she ignored one of the guards letting out a breath of relief.
  646.
  647. (Great! But that wasn't who I was talking about.)
  648.
  649. She couldn't keep the smile off her face when Thirteen's look went back, scanning over all the lings in the group.
  650.
  651. "They're all here."
  652.
  653. (All from you're group, sure. But I thought you said you were protecting your hive? That any changeling was in trouble?)
  654.
  655. "...And?"
  656.
  657. (Annnnnd... where's Twenty Nine?)
  658.
  659. The smaller changeling went rigid, scanning and rescanning over and over to find that, indeed, the posh changeling not only wasn't there, but wasn't anywhere nearby either.
  660.
  661. (Well?)
  662.
  663. "...I..."
  664.
  665. (Well, you're certainly not going to leave him behind, are you? He'd be in as much trouble as them, wouldn't he? And sure, he's annoying... but he's still from your hive, isn't he?)
  666.
  667. Her teeth grit, and she began sucking in air through through them, once more looking over the crowd for any sign of him hidden beyond.
  668.
  669. {..We can just leave him.}
  670.
  671. {Yeah, dude's an asshole.}
  672.
  673. {Also, he lives here.}
  674.
  675. {Let's just leave!}
  676.
  677. But she wouldn't give the okay. She just kept looking, just kept searching, for the last missing piece. She wouldn't leave anyone behind.
  678.
  679. And, now, Sunset knew that.
  680.
  681. "We can't..."
  682.
  683. It had been a gamble, sure. A risk that she would have dedication to all of them, even those that lived elsewhere, but Sunset was nothing if not a gambler.
  684.
  685. She just managed not to roll snake eyes this time.
  686.
  687. "Mom, do you think you can find him?"
  688.
  689. It was a mere second before Pommel caught on.
  690.
  691. When it happened, he had to fight not to smile.
  692.
  693. 'Oh yes, brilliant. Send off Chitania, the hair trigger rage machine, to go find Twenty Nine. Twenty Nine. The most annoying changeling on the planet. Him. I'm sure she'll be as gentle as a lamb!'
  694.
  695. She winced, any retort quite wisely never voiced.
  696.
  697. "Then I'll do it."
  698.
  699. (Even better! Leave Chitania alone with the mob. I mean, it's not like your reputation can get any worse, and I'm sure you don't care if ponies get crippled, best case scenario.)
  700.
  701. From the disgusted look on her face, it actually seemed that she did quite care about that, and the thought did not agree with her stomach.
  702.
  703. Both captain and student made a note on that one.
  704.
  705. 'I guess you could send a ling, but then you're back to step one if they get lost, and they're unprotected.'
  706.
  707. (Or... we could go get him.)
  708.
  709. She hissed, clearly disagreeing with that idea even more than earlier.
  710.
  711. (It would just take a second.)
  712.
  713. "...Do you think I'm stupid? I know you'll just stall for time. You won't ever come back."
  714.
  715. They shared a look, not even bothering to hide it, knowing full well that she wasn't fooled for a second.
  716.
  717. 'Offensive.'
  718.
  719. (Very racist.)
  720.
  721. Despite their comments, the ling knew she had been backed into a corner.
  722.
  723. She couldn't leave without him, couldn't go get him herself, and couldn't risk leaving him to the mob. She was stuck, and she knew it, and they knew it. She could stop the mob, she knew, and not kill a one of them. But her mother...
  724.
  725. "...An hour."
  726.
  727. (Hm?)
  728.
  729. "If you don't find him in an hour, then I'm... I'm sending my mom."
  730.
  731. 'You know that she'll-'
  732.
  733. "The Queen would forgive me. I'm giving you a chance, use it."
  734.
  735. Giving her a chance, were the unspoken words.
  736.
  737. Only one hour.
  738.
  739. >...Well? GET GOING!
  740.
  741. Her roar was what finally spurred Sunset to start running, to go off with a smirk on her face while she made a show of her fastest race. She shared only a single look with Pommel, a single glance to say 'you're still on the clock' before she was gone. Disappearing into the town, to find the 'lost ling'.
  742.
  743. Leaving them, the mob, the Titan, the guards and the lings behind, where they knew they would remain for an hour.
  744.
  745. Where not a one of them expected to have that time limit broken by a return.
  746.
  747. They all sat there, remained there, in the most awkward and uncomfortable silence to have ever graced the face of Eqeustria.
  748.
  749. '...Sooooo... anybody got a game? One that takes a bit of time?'
  750.
  751. [We could play Monopony.]
  752.
  753. >GRRRRRRRAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!
  754.
  755. Everyone screeched in terror, be they ling or pony or otherwise, when flames enveloped the Queen, and the full sized Titan let out an ear splitting roar.
  756.
  757. She shrank back down a second later, glaring at every single one of them in turn.
  758.
  759. "...Mom doesn't like monopony."
  760.
  761. 'Put that together myself, thanks.'
  762.
  763. Thus, the longest hour in the world began.
