  1. Prologue to Beyond the Threshold
  2. A lone lantern sits on the stage. "Hello again children," said a figure sitting in a chair, hidden in a shadow. "It has been quite some time since we last spoke and I'm sure you would like to know why I brought you here today."
  3.
  4. The figure picked up a disembodied head. "Life," the figure said, "used to be thought of a human body and a spirit. Fortunately for us, we know that is not the case. To give life is to create, to take life is to destroy. To combine both, is to achieve perfection. An entity that cannot die but cannot live is surely in a constant state of bliss. Yet, those outside our humble village still believe in the lie of life and death."
  5.
  6. The figure dropped the head and it rolled to the light of the lantern revealing it to be Freddy's head. "You all needed to be led to the truth," the figure said. "Not as imbeciles but as children, my children, who wish to sate their curiosity and grow. Those that are outside want material possessions, power, and love when there is so much more, yes, believe me when I say there is so much more."
  7.
  8. The figure got up and walked around the lantern out of visual sight of the light. "Like a weak flame they only see what's before them," the figure said. "Even when the world is deteriorating around them they still stand there in the weak light of ignorance. Sometimes they talk about, maybe even do a little bit a research but they do not cross that line. They will not see what I've seen out there beyond the threshold."
  9.
  10. The figure picked up a bucket, the sound of liquid swirling in the bucket accompanied the loud footsteps of the figure. "So my children," the figure said, "we must bring what's in the darkness to them. They must see what you and I are. But for that to happen, we need souls. Fresh souls for we have the vessel already. All I ask from you is patience. Patience for the fall for this is not the beginning, this is the end."
  11.
  12. Figure put out the lantern with a splash of water.
