  9. -----------------------------------------
  10.
  11. [Scene with fanatical Pilgrim]
  12.
  13. {You're taking this girl to see a Griffon? Is that safe?}
  14.
  15. What are you accusing me of? Of course it's safe! The Griffon covets this kingdom, as anyone with a pair of eyes can see from their image gracing every royal cloth.
  16.
  17. Bah, the audacity of you! Do you greet every stranger with suspicion?
  18.
  19. {It's wise not to tread near any beast of that size.}
  20.
  21. And now you sully our revered guardian!
  22.
  23. Fortune favours you for I am a man of faith, not a man of blood - were I a more zealous soul then you'd have faced judgement for that slight.
  24.
  25. {Ha, I'm sure.}
  26.
  27. Let's not speak of this any longer, I can only stomach so much indiscretion. Instead, we shall talk business, you're a sellsword are you not?
  28.
  29. {I am}
  30.
  31. I can see a loose sheath given enough time - I just hope the blade befits the sleeve. Now, do you have any reservations with escorting? I and the girl you've greeted are in need of armed company.
  32.
  33. {I'm partial to it}
  34.
  35. Worry yourself no longer sellsword, after this you'll have your fortune.
  36.
  37. Here, your map. The little one and I will await your arrival at the cliff edge here, do not dally! We've not much time till the Griffon departs again.
  38.
  39. {I'm not familiar with this Kingdom, Is the Griffon safe to approach?}
  40.
  41. Trepid are we? The Griffon doesn't entertain itself with the fears of lowborn. The Griffon is only riled through great heresy or treason.
  42.
  43. Their marble figure found in every city, their presence felt by every loyal subject..
  44.
  45. {I get it pilgrim}
  46.
  47. Do not forget it outsider! The griffon is second to the gods in this land.
  48.
  49. We owe our Kingdom to those great Griffons, and this particular griffon hasn't visited us in a very long time, last seen up north nay 20 years back. Just when that peasant uprising was quelled.
  50.
  51. The kingdom owes its strength to them, the most divine of Mara's creations, imbued with her undying generosity. This very griffon we're yet to see hasn't graced our land for near 20 years.
  52.
  53. Having departed after sundering that uprising of heretical peasants.
  54.
  55. {Peasant uprising?}
  56.
  57. Oh you've never heard, deracinated peasants and those wayward witchmen took up residence in an old fort town of Munstor, those frigid wastes up north where those savages still remain to this day.
  58.
  59. There was once a time where we were forbidden to speak of those events, but the faith of the lords, and the people, have killed the idea of rebellion for good.
  60.
  61. And now we're able to reflect on that dark period, to study why such hateful ideas gripped so many hearts.
  62.
  63.
  64.
  65. Attempted a little commune together, a heinous sight, a direct violation of divine authority. They say that even wives were shared up there!
  66.
  67. Eventually our most revered nobility took it upon themselves to end the madness and disseminated great justice upon the wretches.
  68.
  69. Not one peasant or serf dared look a lord in the eye again for another decade, and thus law had returned.
  70.
  71. It's unfortunate that those Witchmen weren't brought under heel as well, the savages have made any expedition up north virtually impossible.
  72.
  73. {You've piqued my curiosity, let's go see this Griffon then.}
  74.
  75. Wonderful, meet us on the west cliff at the entrance of the Maw, we will be waiting for our arrival so don't be afraid of us running off.
  76.
  77. You've earned not just my respect, but that of the divine I serve. You will be forgiven for any violence you commit in our stead.
  78.
  79. {What about all the Exiles?}
  80.
  81. A pouch of gold has taken care of that concern, and the guard have a way of stemming any advances those scoundrels may make. Hope you bring enough supplies, we'll meet you there.
  82.
  83. A small stack of coin should suffice for any vagrant on our path, if not, the Guard have their methods of coercion. Lastly of course, there is you.
  84.
  85. {Ready to set off again?}
  86.
  87. By kyne you've made it! What took you so long?
  88.
  89. {I came as fast I could.}
  90.
  91. Oh nevermind, at least you're here. The girl was growing increasingly erratic, eager for your arrival. Now we needn't concern ourselves any longer, we go to the griffon!
  92.
  93. We're already late, soon the Griffon will depart and we may never pay witness to its arrival again!
  94.
  95. Remember to bow your head before the venerated guardian of our realm, lest you cause offence.
  96.
  97. Come, come. The girl grows restless, so do I.
  98.
  99. [Scene where commoner (As a pilgrim) argues with player after horrifying event]
  100.
  101. {What have you done?! You lured the girl up here to be a meal for that creature?}
  102.
  103. You don't understand, ignorant, just like the rest of them. The great griffon protects, imposes its majesty on all the wretches that insult the gods!
  104.
  105. Yet you despair at the thought of tribute to our guardian? Selfish! You are the very same parasite who will bring our kingdom down, you betray us all!
  106.
  107. Now the griffon is angry because of the duplicity of men, I must make amends and bring him more tribute, so that we are absolved of our folly.
  108.
  109. {You're not bringing anyone fool, the only thing that creature deserves is a blade through the neck.}
  110.
  111. Heretic! Foul defiler, you will not sully this kingdom's image!
  112.
  113.
  114. [Scene where Pilgrim talks with Griffon]
  115.
  116. I promise you, oh so magnificent griffon, she is pure!
  117.
  118. You have my word Griffon, her purity is certain!
  119.
  120. Farewell little dove, you will be within Mara's embrace now.
  121.
  122. Farewell, little dove. May Mara welcome your ascent.
  123.
  124. The King assured me she was pure! Please great Griffon! I beg forgiveness, spare thy pathetic form! I will make amends and bring you more morsels.
  125.
  126. I beg you hear me, Griffon! I was certain in her purity, sworn by his majesty himself! I plead forgiveness! Spare me and I will make amends! More tribute!
  127.
  128. Griffon, the corruption was not born of the kingdom. The source of this canker is here, from this very vagrant!
  129.
  130. It whores for blood-smeared gold, drenched in sin!
  131.
  132. The corruption did not come from the Kingdom! It was from this vagrant here! It followed us up here and tainted the girl!
  133.
  134. The scourge of sin shall be cleansed!
  135.
  136.
  137. [Scene where tense serf talks to aggressive guard]
  138.
  139. Sir! About the taxes... and the tithe, would you be so merciful as to have the Lord hear our plea of lowering them? We hardly have enough coin to pay for ourselves.
  140.
  141. Sir, a moment if you will?
  142.
  143. The taxes sir, they are too great for what we produce. Could you be so merciful to have the Lord of this? We will not slacken if his lordship is generous.
  144.
  145. Ugh... my lord please forgive me but people are starving, there are whispers of dissent among those most in need. Surely you must see the risk of these wretches behaviour becoming vindicated!
  146.
  147. Sir forgive me for what I speak, but the people starve and anger simmers, whispers of dissent are heard from those most in need. We cannot face more disorder in these trying times!
  148.
  149. [Scene where sympathetic commoner speaks with guard]
  150.
  151. Just nostalgia sir, I assure you. Monotony and stagnation are both mistresses to this life, at least your line of work has the hopes of Knighthood!
  152.
  153. Nostalgia sir, nothing but. The dull and stagnant are twin to this life. Yet fortune favour those in your craft, the potential of Knighthood!
  154.
  155. No worries guard, your words are safe with me. Those words aren't yours alone, it only takes those with a pair of eyes to draw the same foul sketch. Ha! What a downer! A visit to the inn should sort us out!
  156.
  157. After your shift, we'll drown those worries at the Inn. And take comfort in those words not being yours alone, one only needs hear of our capital to share in your animosity.
  158.
  159. Agh... A session at the Inn should distract us from these miseries!
  160.
  161. [Scene where over-confident commoner talks with guard]
  162.
  163. Why the frown guard? The Reach cannot assail you here, those troubles are not your concern... Live it up, enjoy Evermore!
  164.
  165. Is there ever a smile to be found among the guard? The gloom of the East is behind you, Live it up and enjoy Evermore!
  166.
  167. As I said guard! Those troubles are beyond yonder! Stop bogging yourself down in the woes of the world and relax. And if you wanted my true opinion on this disparity, it's just down to the way we're born.
  168.
  169. 40 feet of solid stone tower to separate us from that despairing land - force the world's woes from your mind and relax. Besides, this disparity cannot be contended - our privileges are birthright!
  170.
  171. The gods chose us, we deserve this. Those born on the periphery of Mara's gaze will not receive her light, and they deserve that. Besides, I wouldn't want their stench in these walls!
  172.
  173. We are the gods chosen, they wouldn't bless us with such pleasures otherwise! Those born beyond Mara's gaze will never feel her radiant warmth, and who are we to argue against our most benign mother.
  174.
  175. And if we're being honest, the city can do without their stench.
  176.
  177. [Scene where angry commoner interrupts speech of Orc]
  178.
  179. It'll remain a dream, aint gonna be a peace between greenskins and us - what are you implying anyway? That we live together? HA! Sooner the world dies than I have an Orc as a neighbour.
  180.
  181. Ha! Peace with the grocks! Half expectin' the jesters to come on stage now. And I hope you aren't suggesting that we live among your ilk, would rather be caught dead.
  182.
  183. See what your little hideous racial experiment did to Wayrest? A once proud city turned into a degenerate, crime ridden dump because of your savage kind!
  184.
  185. Should take a gander at Wayrest to see what race-mixing does to a city. One of the proudest kingdoms on the great Illiac reduced to a degenerate, crime ridden hole. All thanks to your kin.
  186.
  187. Nah, just because you speak better than the average grock doesn't mean you get to call the shots. Wayrest was put out of its misery, our Kingdom were merciful enough to come in and put an end to what you scum caused.
  188.
  189. Grock thinks he has class, may be a cut above the average Orc, yet that's still not worth the dung on my heel. We put Wayrest out of its misery because uppity greenskins were getting ambitious, should take heed yourself.
  190.
  191. Now orc tell us, what about your friends. Raping their way through our very kingdom! The stench of death still lingers at Deepcrag yet you have the gall to make demands.
  192.
  193. Thank you jerry.
  194.
  195. [Scene where Commoner stands outside storage building, where an Orc has taken a Breton hostage]
  196.
  197. [Scene where commoner is scared of an impending assault on his farm]
  198.
  199. I see movement...
  200.
  201. By the gods, there's so many of them!
  202.
  203. [Scene where Commoner becomes angry at another commoner for insulting the prince]
  204.
  205. The prince musn't endure such insult! Punish him!
  206.
  207. [Scene where angry commoner attacks an Orc]
  208.
  209. I'll 'ave a go at this Grock - for all the those your savage race has butchered. Shoulda known your place!
  210.
  211. [Scene where commoner pleads with orc]
  212.
  213. I beg you, Orc! I'll give you anything if you let us live!
  214.
  215. Have mercy! We cannot do you harm! Please!
  216.
  217. [Player rescues commoner from bandits]
  218.
  219. By the grace of Mara, a savoir! Let's not spend any longer here. Lead the way.
  220.
  221. You have my eternal gratitude, I will be sure to honour your feat in time. Thank you.
  222.
  223.
  224.
  225. [MERCHANT, COMMENTS WITHIN {} BRACKETS ARE THE PLAYERS QUESTIONS]

  230.
  231. Are you daft? You've just rented a room.
  232.
  233. Sorry friend, maybe you'll find some luck down with the beggars. I don't do charity.
  234.
  235. I'll take you to your room.
  236.

  259. You're eager to be my student? Very well.
  260.
  261. {Where can I find some work}
  262.
  263. The council just put out a bounty, take a look. Hope you're up for it.
  264.
  265. Nothing at the moment it seems, you should check back later to see if the council has any news.
  266.
  267. {I've taken care of the bounty}
  268.
  269. Great work, hope the coin satisfies.
  270.
  271. You're an asset to the kingdom, you have our gratitude.
  272.
  273. {Where do you get all your meat?}
  274.
  275. Like what you're seeing? The Reach breeds 'em tough, every morsel made to satisfy. Nothing goes to waste...
  276.
  277. And that meat hails from this very plot of land, just an arms throw from these walls. Fattest livestock you'll see this side of High rock.
  278.
  279.
  280.
  281.
  282. [NPC OFFERING BOUNTY TO PLAYER]
  283. Here, read this, the council just put up this bounty.
  284.

  286. Help! I don't want to die!
  287. I beg you! Show mercy!
  288. By the gods! Someone help me!
  289.
  290. [PLAYER YIELDS]
  291. You fool, you'll get yourself killed.

  314. I'll send you to oblivion myself.
  315. What in oblivion are you?!
  316.
  317. [TAUNT DIRECTED TOWARD GENERIC ENEMY, ]
  318. Make your prayers.
  319. Your end nears.
  320. Your last mistake.
  321. Get out, monster!
  322.
