  47. In honour of the Japanese-American veteran troopers who bravely fought during WWII, the sage Karate master, Mr Miyagi, travels to Boston to attend a ceremony. There, in this unlikely place, Miyagi is introduced to the 17-year-old troubled teenage girl, Julie, who is constantly angry at the world and her abusive schoolmates, still unable to come to terms with the untimely loss of her parents. But before long, Julie will become Miyagi's new pupil, hopeful of teaching the rebellious youngster the true meaning of karate and self-esteem, through the knowledge of self-defense and respect for all living things. Could Julie be the next Karate Kid?
  48. Mr. Miyagi is back and he takes a new pupil under his wing; a troubled adolescent girl.
  49. While I totally objected to this chapter ever being made, at least it had a young Hilary Swank (I seem to be her only male fan). While this film was kind of hokie and predictable, at least it accurately portrayed the horrors of men trying to shop for women. Pat Morita's performance in that scene alone was priceless. While this proved to be nothing more than a spin-off grasping at straws, at least no one completely embarrassed themselves. Also, where the heck was Ralph Macchio! Couldn't he have made a guest appearance. It's not like he had anything to do at the time.
  50. this is the 4th movie in the Karate Kid series.however it has nothing to do with the previous 3.the only character remaining is Mr Myagi.this time around Mr Myagi meets troubled teen Julie pierce(Hliary Swank, before she was famous)Julie having all kinds of Problem including being bullied at school by a guy, belonging to a pseudo military club on campus.Naturally she is trained how to fight.Anyway, through Myagi,Julie learns Karate and becomes a better person spiritually and learns how to respect herself and in the end regains her respect.i like the unique idea of the antagonist being a female and having a male as her enemy.i there are also some fight scenes which are done quite well, very low key and minimal violence.none of the fighting is graphic.the ending is also good and a bit surprising.it is predictable but not a typical ending for this kind of film.the film has echoes of the original obviously, especially the spiritual aspect and the lessons learned.it is not as good as the 1st movie, and certainly not as good as the 2nd.it is however,a giant leap forward compared to the underwhelming 3rd entry.this is a very entertaining under dog movie that is suitable for the whole family. 8/10
  51. The Next Karate Kid is harmless as children's entertainment, but for 104 very long minutes, there isn't a recognizable human being in sight.
  52. While in Boston to accept a special unit citation for the Japanese-American soldiers who fought in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II, Mr Miyagi (<a href="/name/nm0001552/">Pat Morita</a>) stays at the house of the wife of an old war buddy where he meets her granddaughter, 16-year-old Julie Pierce (<a href="/name/nm0005476/">Hilary Swank</a>) who is angry at the world following the death of her parents in a car accident. He winds up staying at the Pierce house to take care of Julie while her grandmother vacations at Miyagi&#39;s house in California. After a rough start, Miyagi and Julie find they have something in common ...karate. The Next Karate Kid is the fourth movie in the Karate Kid series, preceded by <a href="/title/tt0087538/">The Karate Kid (1984)</a> (1984), <a href="/title/tt0091326/">The Karate Kid Part II (1986)</a> (1986), and(1989), all of which were based on scripts by screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen. Mark Lee wrote the script for The Next Karate Kid based on the characters created by Kamen. The Karate Kid movies have no relation to the DC Comics superhero also known as &quot;Karate Kid&quot;. No. Daniel (<a href="/name/nm0001494/">Ralph Macchio</a>) has presumably gone away to college. Mr Miyagi does mention him, however, when he tells Julie, after walking in on her while she&#39;s changing clothes, that he &quot;used to live with boy...Daniel-san.&quot; Thereafter, he only alludes to Daniel when he comments, &quot;Boy easier [than girl].&quot; Macchio was 33 years old at the time The Next Karate Kid was filming. He has stated publicly that he was &quot;not interested in becoming the Sylvester Stallone of Karate Kid movies.&quot; No particular time frame is given. Daniel is out of the picture, and Miyagi&#39;s only reference to him is in the past. In real time, the span between Karate Kid III (1989) and the Next Karate Kid (1994) is five years, a span that sounds reasonable. That phrase is uttered by Julie when she doubts that Miyagi can teach her anything. Morita was actually an American citizen, born in California of Japanese parents. To play the role of Mr Miyagi, he had to adopt a Japanese accent, since he spoke perfect English. Most likely not. Hawks of all kinds are protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which makes it unlawful for anyone to pursue, hunt, take, capture, kill or sell birds on the protected list. Anyone possessing a bird on the list, whether live or dead, must turn it over to someone who has a federal permit to handle such birds. After Ned (<a href="/name/nm0146798/">Michael Cavalieri</a>) and his friends make their daring bungee jump from the gym rafters over the dance floor, Julie and Eric (<a href="/name/nm0175621/">Chris Conrad</a>) decide to leave the prom, unaware that Ned is following. They park in front of Julie&#39;s house, and Ned bends forward to kiss her. Suddenly, Ned begins smashing in the car windows with a baseball bat. He challenges Eric to met him at the docks and then drives away. Eric follows. When Eric gets to the docks, he finds himself surrounded by Ned&#39;s friends. Colonel Dugan (<a href="/name/nm0000461/">Michael Ironside</a>) taunts him about not paying attention to the bullring challenge, but Eric replies, &quot;I got a piece of you, didn&#39;t I?&quot; Dugan gives the order to blow up Eric&#39;s car. A fight ensues, and Eric ends up on the ground. &quot;Finish him,&quot; Dugan orders, but the boys are reluctant to further beat on Eric now that he&#39;s down. Suddenly, Julie and Miyaga drive up. In order to prove herself respectable, Julie uses her karate against Ned, who tries to fight dirty by tossing dirt in her face, but Julie focuses and ends up putting Ned on the ground. Dugan continues to goad the boys into fighting, but they back away. Miyagi finally stands against Dugan, easily overpowering him. Disgusted at the man they once thought had all the answers, the boys turn their backs on Dugan. When Julie compliments Miyagi on &quot;kicking some butt,&quot; Miyagi simply replies, &quot;Fighting not good, but if must fight...win.&quot; In the final scene, Angel the hawk is shown flying free. Among many &quot;pearls&quot;, these are probably his best: a5c7b9f00b
